Much of what bothers me about the saggy pants-untied shoes look is its origin. It's about the jailhouse, where your belt and shoelaces are taken away. We have a problem when youth culture glorifies prison.

I never knew that. I bet a lot of young adults who dress like that also have no idea of its origin, either. They're just doing it to stand out, & fit in with their peers.

My understanding is that drug runners started the baggy craze to hide carrying fire arms and their dope. Yeah, THAT'S something we want our kids emulating ...

I really do feel it's more about no self respect than anything else. Even back in my day I'd look at what kids were doing trying to be cool or whatever the "in" thing was and shook my head in disbelief. Anyone remember the valley girl and "valley speak", like ya know?

You might be right about the baggy pants, but the pants halfway down the ass is definitely prison cool.

One thing I really don't get is the comfort factor. When I forget my belt and my pants start to slide down even a little, it drives me nuts. Have you watched these kids walk, with their pants halfway down their thighs? It's a kind of a penguin shuffle.
