What pissed you off today? Mark III

Complete lack of awareness and incapability to recognize your own patterns, over and over again.

Well, not really pissed. Just a big "WTF" and "how is that possible" moment.
Frustrated would be the right word for it.

Dogs in grocery stores...

I saw one yesterday on a leash in the store and it pissed me off too. Then I immediately thought of how hot it was and decided I would much rather see it in the store than lying dead in a hot car.
I know you'll say they should have left it at home. Maybe there was extenuating circumstances that didn't allow for that. Maybe they are just selfish. Maybe it truly was a service animal for their seizures.

Take a breath, Dave. I did even though they probably were just being selfish idiots.

Not “pissed off” but instead completely worn down. Second vaccine shot is kicking my butt. :cries: not fun.

So I walk out of the taco shop and hop in my car. Before I get ready to drive off, I see this guy and two girls walk out. All look to be fairly young, 18, 19 or so. I see the guy, who I assume is with his girlfriend, slap his girlfriend hard across the back of her head. She turns angrily around and cusses, the guy just starts giggling. I watch this and I'm like, what the fuck's with that guy, what a dick move. But I don't say anything. Then I see him deliberatly knock the drink out of her hand, spilling it on the concrete. She naturally gets upset, and her friend who is with them just glares at him. One of the store employees comes out and cleans up the spilled drink after them. I see all of this and it pisses me off. I want to yell out something, say something like, hey, you're a fucking asshole, didn't your mama teach you how to respect a woman?

But the thing is, you can't really get involved because it's not really my buisness, not my place to intervene. The guy is obviously a dick, but unless she was in real physical danger of being assaulted, raped, or worse- (in which case I WOULD have done something) I would be over-stepping to jump in.

So, what would YOU have done in this situation? Because this pissed me off.

These situations are unfortunate. As much as I’d like to be the brave one, 105 pounds is nothing-weight to most people so I would just be stupidly endangering myself. So my answer is: nothing.

I had a boyfriend like this once. Way too young. I suspect he learned it from his father. I watched his father continuously demean his mother with “jokes” all the time. That woman was amazing and eventually left. But their son picked up a really awful way of associating with women because he was encouraged by his father to treat women badly and to rely on “it was just a joke” to make it seem okay. I often found myself on the other side of some of these “jokes” and it was quite horrific sometimes.

The fact that he slapped her in the back of the head is itself ASSAULT. If he does this in public, imagine what he'd do in private. I would have said something, but that's just me.

If more people said something to people like this, maybe they wouldn't have become assholes.

In NY, service dogs wear vests and/or signage. Even ones in training.

Oh no! I'm so sorry! Feel better! I know it is temporary but so difficult going thru it. :rose:

I had every side effect listed for the first one that I thought I had covid again. I'm so worried about the second one and am considering not taking it.

Did you get Pfizer or Moderna? I got Moderna and the first round kicked my ass too. The second round wasn't a walk in the park, but it wasn't as bad as the first for me. It's unusual, but some folks do get worse reactions to the first than the second.

If it seems abusive I try to do something.
I want to make sure that people see that someone takes notice, that it isn’t seen as normal behaviour.
What can be done willl obviously depend on the situation, because you don’t want to make things worse or get in troble yourself.
Often just asking if there is a problem and if you can help, can make a difference.

Good question. I would like to think I would intervene in some way, but in the US, you have to assume everyone is armed. I'm not sure what I would do.

This is a huge worry for me. If what is happening isn’t likely to result in a cop arresting and taking the guy away, intervening can cause more problems. If he’s physical in public, it can get worse in private and if the guy feels threatened and embarrassed in public and doesn’t get separated from the victim, she’s likely in for worse when they get behind closed doors.

So if you’re intervening be prepared to draw the aggressor’s attention away from the victim and I suppose you’ll have to be aware that she may still choose to leave with him afterwards.

Thank you, I’m doing better today. It was rough but I’m alive so it’s fine. Also, of it was that bad for the first one maybe mention it to the pharmacist to see if they have a recommendation.

Hope you feel better soon!

Thank you.

Moderna. Ugh!

Yeah, it is a tough situation - like MeekMe says, challenging the behaviour can backfire.

One tactic that can sometimes be useful (every situation is different, apply your own judgement) is to distract the aggressor. In this case, that might be something like "Hey excuse me! Do you know the way to the gym?" [pick an appropriate location or make one up - if you can draw the conversation out a bit, all the better.]

It's not a big thing, but it interrupts what's in progress and it doesn't give him much excuse to get aggro at you or at her, since it's not framed as a challenge.

Apparently the new procedure is merge, then look, then indicate. Who knew?

Pretty sure that's the same as the old procedure.

WPMOT: we're more than a year into this pandemic and we STILL have unvaccinated aged-care workers working across multiple facilities. Like we didn't already have plenty of lessons in why that's a bad thing. We're in lockdown again - so far only a week but probably going to be extended - and it might not have been necessary if the feds had done their fucking job.

but, I'm booked in to get my first shot in three weeks, that's progress.
