We did our (hopefully) last grocery run of the year, today. I intended to just get a turkey breast, but there were no fresh ones to be had (and I'm a snob, I don't care for the texture of frozen turkeys). BUT there were fresh, small-ish, already-brined turkeys. I'm not of the brined persuasion, either, but Master has been hot to try it since we first discovered Alton Brown years ago. So, brined turkey it is! This will go down in the annals of our kitchen as the Great Christmas Compromise of 2015. :D

The menu is: roast brined turkey, baked ham, potato filling, roast brussels sprouts with bacon, cherry pie, and pumpkin pie. Not a big spread, but it's just the three of us.

What? Meeks? Italian food?!?  :D
It looks lovely!

Yours too, Elle! :)
I have also been baking. Bread, and cookies, and more bread, and more bread, and more cookies, and I have more bread to bake... I'm covered in cinnamon and chocolate and sugar and flour. Heaven! :D

Slow roasting some tomatoes for oven roasted tomato pesto sauce. It'll be all over everything for the next week...

Thank you. :)
Italian? I have no idea. For the most part I made it up.
(´・_・`) With a little helpful suggestion. Next time I will make adjustments. :D

It sounds like you had more fun than me baking. :)

I think I have enjoyed the baking more this year than any other. No doubt thanks to all of the input and exposure I get here :)

I made a pan of fudge with pecans in it a couple of days ago and a mostly-improvised punchbowl Black Forest cake today. The fudge is good. I guess we'll see how the cake comes out.

Merry Christmas, peeps!

Apple, Dubliner cheese, and sage spiced nuts as apps.

Free Range in-state happypig ham with a bourbon redeye NOT syrupy thing on it. A little blackstrap, strong coffee, bourbon, and beef stock cooked down, a little mustard, clove, and leave well enough alone.

Yams and Japanese sweets with with dried cherries butter easy on the brown sugar, a little paprika.

Wilted spinach with shallots and some kind of reduction and butter thing.

Heavily Herbed popovers.

Bourbon balls and Buffalo Trace soaked pecans. Yes, the smashed up vanilla wafer pecan cocoa things. Best no-bake ever.

Black forest cake the whole production, that's the wife's wheelhouse, not my problem. (Why does all Kirsch have to suck so bad or be 45 bucks for a bottle of something with pretty much three on-food uses?)

The pairing is gonna be Cava, because this needs tangy and that just seemed brilliant.

In the spirit of spirits, Buffalo Trace is my new golden brown elixr jam. Price point to quality ratio is fitting, for a change.

Soooo, just combine the ingredients and reduce to a thick glaze? This sounds fabulous!

I never liked cauliflower until I caramelized it...

Caramelized cauliflower and onion couscous with pork loin. Yum!

Your spread sounds amazing, Netz!

Making a savory turkey stew with mushrooms from the left over Christmas turkey! The house smells divine!

edit ~ decided to make some cranberry biscuits to go with the stew :)

Cranberry biscuits, what a great idea!
Did you mix then directly in with the dough?
