What's your favorite quote?

"This world is but a canvas to our imagination."

―Henry David Thoreau

“There is no such thing as a true tale. Truth has many faces and the truth is like to the old road to Avalon; it depends on your own will, and your own thoughts, whither the road will take you.”
― Marion Zimmer Bradley, The Mists of Avalon

"The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience."

“and when we speak we are afraid
our words will not be heard
nor welcomed
but when we are silent
we are still afraid
So it is better to speak
remembering
we were never meant to survive”

I know the way
to your toes curled
and palms filled
with sheets
squeezed.
It matters not
that I did not build
the roads,
for no one
can drive them
like me.

~Tyler Knott Gregson

"I am ready to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter."

--Winston Churchill

I may have a new favorite quote. We have a small dachshund who not only thinks he's king of all he surveys, but is remarkably lazy as well. I commented on this in some exasperation while trying to fish him out from the fluffy bedding of our king-sized bed this morning.

My SO grinned, and said, "If you sit by a river long enough, you'll see the body of your enemy float by."

For some reason this struck me as hysterical. :)

*He couldn't remember where he'd heard the saying. So, for those concerned about such things I did a quick search. The etymology seems somewhat in question, being attributed to both Chinese and Japanese proverbs, and Sean Connery, Rising Sun.

Life is short
Break the rules
Forgive quickly
kiss slowly
love truly
and never regret anything that makes you smile.

There are two ways to slice easily through life: to believe everything or to doubt everything. Both ways save us from thinking.

If I pretend all I do
is because you
told me to,
when I'm alone,
it makes me feel like you
are here,
or just might be
in the morning.

~ Tyler Knott Gregson

Big, little, bumper sticker, philosopher, funny, somber... What are some of your favorite quotes? Do you have any that you mentally go back to in times of struggle or joy?

Personally, my "pick a quote for the day" moments tend to come in twos. One that's of a serious nature and one that's funny or sardonic and lightens the mood.

Share some that you like. Hell, toss in a short poem if you like. Just share some of the words that mean something and maybe what they do for you if you wish.

Today, my serious quote would be:
“Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow. ”
~Mary Anne Radmacher

As for my funny/smart ass quote:
"In my world, everyone's a pony and they all eat rainbows and poop butterflies!"
~Dr. Seuss
"Louie, I believe this is the start of a great friendship". Casablanca

"From where you sit, it may seem that certain people should know better. People are who they are and do what they do whether or not you like it or agree with them. We each have different lessons to learn. We each take a different path to our lessons."

Iyanla Vanzant
