What's your favorite quote?

Elbert Hubbard
"Genius may have it's limitations, but stupidity is not thus handicapped."

I am inspired by almost any Anais Nin quote, but these are my two favorites:

"I, with a deeper instinct, choose a man who compels my strength, who makes enormous demands on me, who does not doubt my courage or my toughness, who does not believe me naive or innocent, who has the courage to treat me like a woman."

"I do not want to be the leader. I refuse to be the leader. I want to live darkly and richly in my femaleness. I want a man lying over me, always over me. His will, his pleasure, his desire, his life, his work, his sexuality the touchstone, the command, my pivot. I don't mind working, holding my ground intellectually, artistically; but as a woman, oh, God, as a woman I want to be dominated. I don't mind being told to stand on my own feet, not to cling, be all that I am capable of doing, but I am going to be pursued, fucked, possessed by the will of a male at his time, his bidding."

Doubt, indulged and cherished, is in danger of becoming denial; but if honest, and bent on thorough investigation, it may soon lead to full establishment of the truth.
-Ambrose Bierce

(Of course Doubt would be the prissy little bitch who has just enough IQ to back up being smarter than everyone else and too much ego to use it correctly. At least according to the Pandora's box of retarded emotion that my friend and I are creating.)

"When the world says, 'Give up,'
Hope whispers, 'Try it one more time.' "

(On a side note, Hope is the one that started the Pandora's Box of Retarded Emotion. Why? Because Hope is the original retarded emotion. He refuses to listen to any form of logic or reason, he is rarely effected by outside circumstances for long, and Hope is just happy to sit in the corner and play with his pretty red ball. He's a very frustrating child...)

I want a copy of that Pandora's Box of Retarded Emotion!!!

The big element is trust, not knowing where you're going, and it will be grander than your imagination. If you know where you are going then it can only be as good as your imagination.

And he has a poopy diaper.

I've often wondered about Pandora's box, and what nasty sensations (besides retarded emotion) one might get, if one, um, "opened" it for her.

Quite often it seems, yes.

That's just wrong. On so, so many levels.

Allow me to share the painfully birthed, less-than-politically-correct and possibly unintentionally offensive work of my friend and me...

And remember, this is a work in progress and not exactly fine tuned yet.

Pandora's Box of Retarded Emotion
Hope: The retarded emotion that refuses to listen to reason or logic and is rarely affected by outside circumstances for long. He's just happy to sit in the corner and play with his ball.

Love: The autistic emotion that is overly sensitive, has trouble appropriately interpreting sensory information and doesn't handle change well.

Fear: The stuttering emotion that sits between love and hope whispering "What if, what if, what if..," *

Doubt: The prissy little bitch who has just enough IQ to back up being smarter than everyone else and too much ego to use it correctly.

Expectation: The baby Huey of emotions that is always trying to touch other peoples' business in a very misguided attempt to help... That never, ever helps.

Anticipation: The unmedicated, severe ADD/ADHD child who is very best friends and the most favorite help mate of Expectation.

Anxiety: The OCD child who can't seem to leave well enough alone. When faced with an stressor she goes into overdrive and will not stop touching it, straightening it, adjusting it, cleaning it, arranging it, moving it... ad nauseam.

Loyalty: The child that was blinded after bonding to another and has a rottweiler/doberman mix for a seeing eye dog. Said dog also doubles as a guard dog despite the current state (or lack) of the bond in question.

Trust: The selectively deaf child who simply will not listen to any evidence that contradicts what she thinks she knows.

Thanks Catty, for the complement and the help. The LD is a bitch at the best of times. Toss in tired or emotional and I'm pretty much hosed.

Hmmm, today's quote...

"Life isn't fair. It's fairer than death, is all."

The most prominent, versatile and useful thing my mother ever told me though...

Today it's one from AH:

I am saying that you can prove a negative when something's existence is self-contradictory. You don't need to know every secret of the universe to know that circles with corners do not exist. With all the attributes given to the Christian god, he is a self-contradiction, and therefore cannot exist. It's not trying to pin evidence on it. It is proof that god is impossible. Not that it matters, though. No amount of proof would ever satisfy the believer. I, on the other hand, if god was PROVEN to me I would be able to accept it. I still wouldn't worship him, though. If God exists he is evil. Fuck him.

That's not the reason I don't believe in gods, though. I don't believe in gods because it is no longer the Dark Ages. The list of reasons not to believe is endless. The reasons to believe, as far as I can see, is willful ignorance and/or fear.

I have to admit, when I find out that someone believes in god I do lose a modicum of respect for them. I can't help it. I can still like them, I can still hang out with them. I can even think of them "otherwise" intelligent. But it's like finding out that an adult still believes in the Tooth Fairy. For whichever reason, willful ignorance or fear, it doesn't matter. No religious belief deserves respect. The person who believes still does, but the belief does not.

I love dueling with quotes;)

If ever there is a tomorrow when we're not together there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think; but the most important thing is, even if we're apart..... I'll always be with you.

Totally love this quote! :rose:

Couldn't say it better if I tryed.

It's a perfect specimen of what totally creeps me out about hetero-normative sexuality. :(

I get that.

I can see how if a female sub applied it to themselves they could dig it, but it does kinda write wimmins as a whole needing that stuff and being all dependent and needing to be told to be a person and that.

Yannow, I never really stopped to consider that sort of stuff till you came along Stella. So thanks.

I love Nin for talking about her sexuality on her own terms, but I find this habit of talking in universality to be one of the worst faults that the "Age of Reason" left to us-- this notion that there is a Singularity, a Final Category, a Perfect Box we will all fit into.

You know, Newton claimed that there were seven colors in the visible spectrum-- not because there were, but because seven is a mystical number. So he sliced blue into "azure" and "indigo" and pretended that they were separate colors.

This idea that Women will always be under Men and that entrance is always an invasion-- a similar fallacy, IMO. It's only true because someone wants it to be true.
