Why the Department of Education?

The schools are resisting putting up Orwellian political messages on the walls. The teachers insist on pupils being nice to each other. None of this matches the core values of the MAGA party so the whole system needs to be dismantled with a return to home-schooling where kids spend their lives fishing down at the river.

Doesn’t make Biden less of a bigot, it makes the black voters uninformed. That’s changing today. They’re beginning to see the democrat party for what it is, *a gaggle of arrogant elitist* full of empty promises.
Or so the Republic Party shills have been saying for decades. Funny how that never actually materializes on Election Day, now isn't it?
Not to mention in the case of the Biden quote you're thinking of, it was a program Blacks didn't support either.

More and more black Americans are waking up to the lies spewed by democrat elitist.

There has never been a time since 1964 when the Dems were not better for them than the Pubs.

So the likes of you have been saying for decades. The share of Blacks who actually vote Republic has yet to reflect your optimism.

You must be bloated from all that Kool-aid. :D The truth hurts!

Democrats may not have noticed how the black community benefited from this economy, but black voters sure did.

Pennsylvania’s Power Grid Faces Crisis under There are those who want you to believe, as President Biden said during the election, that Donald Trump was “one of the most racist presidents” ever and that the Republican Party is just as bad. Nothing could be further from the truth. Simply take a look at the economic record of the last four years.

Before COVID-19 severely impacted our social and economic lives, black Americans were seeing real benefits from lower taxes and lower regulation. The unemployment rate for blacks reached a record low of 5.2 percent and black labor-force participation reached 63.2 percent, the highest it had been since the 2008 recession.

The poverty rate for black Americans also reached record lows, while a total of 1 million lifted themselves out of poverty between 2016 and 2019. Over the same period, real median household income for black families rose over $4,000 after actually falling over the previous 14 years (2002–2016). With incomes rising so fast, it should not be surprising that black homeownership skyrocketed to 47 percent, another mark not reached since the 2008 recession.

While countless Americans benefited from the blue-collar boom ignited by Republican economic policies, black Americans fared particularly well, especially compared with their experience during the Obama economy. Then, black median weekly earnings grew just 1.8 percent on average, which was less than the 2.1 percent growth for white earnings. Under President Trump’s pre-pandemic economy, however, black median weekly earnings grew 4.1 percent on average — higher, in fact, than the 3.4 percent earning growth for whites.

Once again:

If we look around the world at all of the countries whose educational systems are generally agreed to produce better results than America's -- Japan, France, the UK -- one thing they all have in common is CENTRALIZED, NATIONAL CONTROL OF THE SYSTEM.

Whatever the merits may be of decentralized government or federalism, education is one field where it should never be applied.

Abolishing the DoE would take us in EXACTLY the wrong direction.

We should instead be looking at abolishing county school boards, and turning over their powers and functions to the DoE.

"The Department of Education should be abolished." That seems to be one of those definitional things any Republican or conservative HAS to say.

But nobody ever seems to mention what objectionable things that department is doing.
Why do we have to prove a negative when the topic is yours and you have the opportunity to prove the positive?

What the department does has been covered in the thread.

The value of these functions is obvious.

And nobody can say how any of it is objectionable.

I remembered when the NYT thralled to the efficiencies of the Nazis and Fascists leading up to the great world conflagration and how they lauded the modernity and forward looking Soviet Union and how much they managed to control when all of the power (of things like education under people like Goebbels) is centralized where one, strong "person" (man) can seize it...

What a super idea from our tribal past: Let the witch-doctor educate your youth, the ones who are useless as hunter-tools (now military-tools)!

Chief says Good.

:Stalin nod:

I just did and it's pretty damned easy, clear and unambiguous for even the most causal students of history and basal human nature.

See, the fallacy of "the exception proves the rule" is being employed here, a nit-pick.

Show me why this tiny pebble matters (when then landslide is coming down)...

Did any of that make sense in your head, before you typed it?

Probably not.

I forgot. I have to type slower for guys like you and busybody.

Fewer words. Smaller words.

If the Department of Education is such a good idea and works well, why is the United States so far behind other countries on schooling metrics?

The only thing the DoE is really good at is eating up funds for adminstration costs, while utterly failing to meet education goals.

It is a JOBS program for over-educated Liberals (with no other prospects) fighting to have their loans forgiven.

Those other countries spend more on education & it is more important to them.
