Why the difference?

infinity: no, it defeats the point. you're talking about measuring what the real world truth is, and the socialization process--and its impact--is indelibly and irrefutably part of that landscape you're trying to map. you might as well suggest trying to get fingerprints off a gun only after washing it in an acid dip.

bail: the word "make" is an extremely important distinction though. a lot of people use the word and its use complicates divining the writer's intent. should we place greater emphasis on the rest of the post, or on the use of the word "make" as an important clue as to tone? for my part, i grade on a curve that heavily penalizes the use of that word or any other term indicative of non-con.

and based on just on these 2 posts, but on literally dozens of such posts over literally years of HT threads, i'm far from alone in that respect.

Interesting perspective, Ed. On it's own, I definitely agree the word 'make' has negative connotations. That said - my own reading style tends to take into account the tone and context of the entire post when trying to determine intent. So maybe it's just me, afterall? :)

you know as well as i that the majority of HT questions are posed by newcomers, so we don't know the voice of the querant. i mean, if you, me, erika, etc, were to ask a question, a lot of the usual suspects would understand the question and its meaning. we're known quantities, so a lot of people would recognize a single bad word choice as being inconsistent with the way we express ourselves normally.

this isn't unfortunately always true of others who are less familiar to us, though. and make no mistake, i'm guilty of it too sometimes. we all do, every now and again.

well, except for you, that is. :>

Oh goody - I've been elevated to the level of paragon? Whoo -hoo! ;) :p

No - I'm fully aware I'm just as guilty of sometimes jumping to the wrong conclusion (specially when I think someone is fishing for wank material). This was just one of those occasions where the similarities seemed so obvious to me that I wondered why no one else seemed to see what I did.

eilan: j004 reading comp is teh suxx04111!!! j00 r teh enbiou5!

bail: had i been around for the other thread, i'd likely not have said anything even then. the differences is significant, pronounced & not exactly uncommon, as you noted. :>

Bah - even with the guide sitting right in front of me, I'm still having trouble deciphering it. Guess I shouldn't apply for any positions that require code cracking. :D

bail: don't worry about it, it likely won't crop up a lot.

or will it?

[cackles evilly]

eilan: and now, my work here is done! :>

He indicates that he wants to give as well as receive, but his wife is receptive to neither. He's unaware of the reason for her refusal and he'd like advice on how he could change her mind:

The female OP has been given a reason behind her SO's refusal, although she doesn't agree with it and also would like advice on changing his mind:

I vote that you take out your golden rope of truth, lasso their SO's asses and make them talk! Then you can hook up the two OP's who will then live happy cunnilingus ever after. ;):D

[smacks Ed with his own trout] Stinker! Now I'm gonna have to find someone who knows leet - 'cause I'm nosy like that. :D

I vote that you take out your golden rope of truth, lasso their SO's asses and make them talk!

Kewl! I always wanted to be Wonder Woman! ;):D

it probably helps (for me) that i've maintained some measure of fluency for a few years now. :>
