There's a simple solution to crime and in my view, one that we should try. All the feel good stuff around crime has proved useless, so perhaps it's time to try a simpler alternative and see if it has an effect. (Given the bulk of crime is recidivist and committed by the same people over and over again, one surmises this approach may well be effective.

Quite simply, what we should try is to execute every common law felon (murder, robbery - doesn't matter what, mayhem (which is malicious wounding), rape, larceny, arson, and manslaughter) on the first conviction and wipe out crime by wiping out criminals. Heck, add in illegal immigration and we won't even have to deport them.

Simple. Effective. Comprehensive. Let's see what effect that has on crime rates.

It worked for Genghis Khan, but stand by for howls of protests from the CEOs of the prisons when their profits drop with the lack of prisoners.

Getting serious about the war on drugs, so-called, would go a long way to help. A great deal of property crime is committed to support a habit. If we legalise drugs, the prices would drop like a rock, and correspondingly, a lot of property crime would simply not be committed. The drugs could be taxed and some of the money used toward treatment programs.

Just a thought….

This reads like a sociopath's idea of what reduces crime.

What HAS been proved to reduce crime (through NUMEROUS academic studies & statistics collected from countries & states where it's been achieved are:

A sense of belonging in one's community (so, reducing bigotry etc)
Access to resources (income, housing, healthcare, mental-healthcare, food etc)
Addressing trauma & addiction (increased mental health & addiction services that are readily available)
Victim compensation & restorative justice
& finally, some increased surveillance in areas where crime occurs frequently

What has proven to have NO effect on reducing crime are tactics like 'deterrents' such a state-sanctioned murder of citizens with felonies.

Snark aside, the war on drugs is lost. It's ended up just where Prohibition of Alcohol did, being a fund for criminals.

Tobacco & alcohol would be banned if introduced today, but with the same result. Big bank balances for the mob, little tax paid, lives devasted for those caught in the crossfire. Wars have been fought over drugs, which is why Britain ended up with Hong Kong for so many years.

Prohibition does no good in the long term, it's a simplistic slogan for populist politicians.

But it's so funny that some edgelord's on here like 'I have this great idea that the state should MURDER a whole bunch of people who scare me & then no crime??' Groundbreaking.

I'm not sure, would we include white collar crime, and personal and business Tax fraud? Maybe even, CEOs and owners of companies that sell a product they know to be useless, health insurance firms that routinely deny benefits? These guys might be stealing more than the shoplifters and car thieves do.

FBI Releases 2023 Crime in the Nation Statistics

The FBI’s crime statistics estimates, based on reported data for 2023, show that national violent crime decreased an estimated 3.0% in 2023 compared to 2022 estimates:

  • Murder and non-negligent manslaughter recorded a 2023 estimated nationwide decrease of 11.6% compared to the previous year.
  • In 2023, the estimated number of offenses in the revised rape category saw an estimated 9.4% decrease.
  • Aggravated assault figures decreased an estimated 2.8% in 2023.
  • Robbery showed an estimated decrease of 0.3% nationally.
In 2023, 16,009 agencies participated in the hate crime collection, with a population coverage of 95.2%.

The trend in crime is downward.

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but this really seems like a half measure.

What this country needs is a yearly Purge.

You just killed your President, Deplorable.

Oops. 🙂
Can't make an omelet without breaking eggs. The good part is we could simply off the Bidens, Obamas, Clintons and Bushes too. Do a clean sweep and likely throw in most of the Senate and a lot of the House. Eliminates the need for term limits as well.

Heck, this has way more benefits than I first thought.

Ca tried this. It didn't work. What we got was more crime, more homelessness, more poverty and more despair.

Catering to man's depravity is not a solution to his other predilections.

Exactly. Take 'em out. Lots of economic benefits

Criminal execution isn't "murder." Don't believe me? Do look up the statute against murder and see if it prohibits State execution of a criminal after conviction.

None of this reduces crime.

Exactly. It's like "give war a chance."

All the feel good crap has failed. Let's give mass executions a chance. Caught with drugs. Bam. Shoplifted. Bam. Mugged someone. Bam. Murder? Double bam. Found guilty, don't even leave the courtroom. Bam. Into the coffin and out the door. Rape? Forget the bam. Impale on a stake and leave 'em to scream. Burn someone to death in the subway? Take a lesson from Kim Il Fatso and use a flamethrower on 'em. Illegal immigration? Bam. Nothing fancy. We close down the jails. For minor crimes like jaywalking and throwing rubbish on the street, restitution and the lash. Anything more serious. Bam.

It's worth a try.

Nice try. Everyone knows you forgot Trump was a convicted felon when you made this thread. Keep digging that hole.

A PB MAGAt was the first to call for Trump's execution. It's on record now. 😆

There was a time in US history when being convicted of certain crimes had you sent off to prison in places like Yuma for a very long stay. It worked to reduce many crimes but those which were committed were more heinous than "the norm" for such things.

Which illustrates that those who are predisposed to commit crime, will do so regardless of deterrents. Further, increased severity of the deterrents will only increase the depravity of the offenses.

In the end, what really reduced crime was letting the citizens deal with it. It was effective and instantaneous and not only eliminated the actual criminal it was a deterrent to others who believed they too could "get away with it."

Modern society has removed that option and crime has become rampant. Give the people back the power to dispense justice (or they will eventually take it anyway) and crime will be reduced.

Corporations ARE people.
