🏺The original kink: Art, Artifacts & Pleasure 🏺

A praise for opening this thread @MrsNaughtyCat

I shall contribute with an example of primal male size exaggeration

How do you know, maybe over time penises are getting smaller and this could be a factual representation of the time 😆

I took a quick peek in my basement studio. The library has gotten out of sorts, but there are some titles which might have images and info of interest. (Most is not "ancient", tho' I have some general erotica books which would have "some")

Hans Bellmer is probably most known for his "Dolls", tho' I 1st found him via his engravings.
Hokusai Book plus.jpg
Hokusai is the artist of "The Dream of The Fisherman's Wife"

Hokusai created many amazing paintings!! 🤩

Do not know the others.. but, I got a feeling, that you will tell us about them! 🥰🖌📋

Some Hans Bellmer 1902-1975
The Doll is arguably his most well known work
(tho' he is not very well known, to the general public)

"Le Tabouret"
is the engraving which I attempted to replicate for class.
I still have not dug up my version, which is in a flat file in the basement

(but blocked by other stuff)

I've included a few other pieces.

Many of his works start to get a bit too "creepy" for my tastes.

I think.. that I sort of like the art.. it is definitely not something that I could have on my walls though (kids and stuff).

But his surreal take on the whole genre and motif. It feels like deconstruction all over again!

Seen with the eyes of a philosopher, I see how he tries to get to the core value of his intended results.

Fig.6 is almost as if he is trying to make a moving picture.. In one drawing..

... It got a bit "Naked Lunch" feeling 🤔

I like it!!!!

I like some of his work and appreciate most of it (even that which is not "appealing" to me) and love a few pieces. :)
He was, indeed, considered a surrealist.

It does not mean that an artists work is bad, without merit or not worthy of praise, just because we do not find things "pleasing" or "appealing" towards our own private taste.

I believe that there is a very important difference in how we should look at art (the world in general, perhaps?)
- There are the things, which are good for the society and culture/ civilisation and development.
- There are the things that we like, for whatever personal reasons there might be.

If it was a Venn diagram, (oh gosh, just... No..) then those two groups would not necessarily be the exact same value.

But, what is important is understanding that!
And also.. Understanding, that everyone got different likes and dislikes, and should not have to justify it, sometimes.. People just like or dislike, without no apparent reason why.

And that is okay 🍀

Back to the ancient.
Venus of Willendorf
25,000–30,000 years old
Venus-of-Willendorf-848x530.jpg

Was she considered "beautiful"? "sexy"? "erotic"?
Or perhaps more "functional" — as a fertility icon used in rites/prayer?
Perhaps all of the above?
There is a degree of craftsmanship to be recognized as well.

I have always had a strange relationship with this lady.

As a child, I found her to be weird, faceless and so, so simple..

As a youngster, pre-motherhood, she was a beautiful piece of craftsmanship, 25.000-30.000 years old. And the artist was able to replicate the female body in such details!!
That was nothing less than mind-blowing!
But still.. I did not.. see myself in her..

After giving birth.. she is a goddess of fertility to me!!.

And.. realising, that there were a person, understanding that.. 25-30.000 years ago.
- It makes me smile!
