Yes, as a business owner, management will have to decide if it is easier to give the workers what they demand or to fire them all and hire new workers.

Exactly.
Which is why strikes are effective

Which is why strikes are effective
I think they are effective because unions got laws on the books making it illegal to fire striking workers in certain situations. They got the government to insert itself in between the employer and the employee on the side of the employee. Strikes are effective because the government strongarms the company.

Yes, I get that you explained why they are effective very clearly, but now feel the need to actually go against your own logic to blame unions.

They're dying in hot trucks. UPS won't install air conditioning. The article doesn't mention painting the trucks white.

The AC is an issue because their doors are open a lot of time when they unload.

But they neglect to mention they get paid very well, with a ton of vacation and personal time which allows them to take enough days off to get a break from the heat which is why they have a lot of floating and back up drivers. Their medical and other benefits are insane, and they take you off the routes when you get older and find other jobs within the building so you're not doing this labor at 60(unlike Fed ex I should mention. That's a company that needs a union)

Its a good job, thing is in this day of laziness and everyone looking for hand outs and to be paid for nothing the idea that working hard for good pay and benefits is a sin.

As to a strike, the driver on our route is a shop steward and he's heard nothing about a strike, at least not from anyone in our area.

Maybe Biden should forgive their mortgages or something so they'll keep working.

The front doors are open so much because it's FUCKING HOT in there and they need the air while moving ... 2/40 air.

AC the front, insulate between and back. Exit the seat into the back, close the divider door, then out the back door with the packages. Let the cab area stay cooler. They could even add a drink chiller.

You've never done route delivery work, have you Seditionist?
Delivery work is hard as fuck. It's not door dash, it's hot, heavy long ass day work with the man constantly riding your ass to go faster. It does pay well but no pay is worth death.

These people are free to walk off their jobs at any time, right? No one is forcing them to get up and show up for work every day, right?
Sounds like they could just live off welfare....or maybe put up a tent in your front yard.

No one is forcing them to work

I swear, where is your self respect?

So, you get one job, and when they don't give you everything you want, then you throw a tantrum and lay on the floor and refuse to get up. You take zero responsibility for the common, adult behavior of taking care of yourself and managing your life - no, if you ever lost your job you would just die. Simply incapable of finding another one. And I'm sure you have all the excuses in the world as to why you are an embarrassment to every real man who preceded you.

PATHETIC.

They are taking care of themselves...by fighting for better working conditions by striking.

They want their employer to live up to their side of the bargain. I've lost jobs and got others. I've fought for better pay and higher positions.

You just don't get why other people do things differently than your binary brain can handle.

Your response to me saying that they should quit was the most defeatist, spineless, pathetic response. Like, if they quit their jobs, then they will have to go on welfare and live in a tent. They have no other means to manage their own life - no ability to get another job. Anyone who can't quit their job and find another one is a loser.

They want their employer to live up to their side of the bargain.
No, they want more than the employer offered them.

I've lost jobs...
Shocker.

Again, I am 100% behind employees re-negotiating with their employers. I even think that striking is a valid tactic to up the stakes of a negotiation. But, where I deviate from this is that in some circumstances, it is illegal for an employer to fire a worker who doesn't show up to work because they are on strike. Employers should absolutely be able to replace anyone who fails to do the work they agreed to do. The laws protecting striking workers is wrong and should be abolished.

And if by "do things differently" you mean be incapable of walking away from a job, or unwilling to walk away from a job that does not compensate you properly, or being unwilling to walk away from a job that is unsafe, then it isn't me "not getting it". I get it. I understand. Those people are pathetic losers. How can you have an ounce of self respect and know that you are incapable of getting a job anywhere else?

No. I mean striking to fight for all employees to have better working conditions.
Safe working conditions aren't more than their employer offered them. They're striking to get that.

You don't like strikes or unions....and so anyone who is part of either fits into your "don't like" category. It damn near sounds like you had your heart broken by a union worker....lol
Those people are pathetic losers. How can you have an ounce of self respect and know that you are incapable of getting a job anywhere else?
You don't know any of these people and you are so incredibly stuck on your bullshit that you can't even fathom that any would be worthy of respect.

You're the pathetic loser there....not them. They fight for other employees and don't just bail.

If UPS drivers feel that they are not being compensated adequately for the level of comfort/discomfort they endure, then they should quit their jobs.

If an employer's workers strike, they should fire them and hire replacement workers.
LOL, health and safety issues are not simply a Rich Dad, Poor Dad thing.

I'm fairly certain we're about five mins before we get a "back in my day, they gave us razor.blades for lunch..and we LIKED IT!" Story...and perhaps a "both ways uphill in the snow" school travel story.

…

I hope you realize thid makes zero sense since the heat in the trucks on the job is the issue.

Its a good job, thing is in this day of laziness and everyone looking for hand outs and to be paid for nothing the idea that working hard for good pay and benefits is a sin.
It’s a good job unless you get heat exhaustion or other heat related problems because the local climate is getting hotter.

…

Maybe Biden should forgive their mortgages or something so they'll keep working.
Sure, like all those rich folk got their PPP loans forgiven.
