If every other industrialized nation on Earth can do things, why can't we? The United States is ridiculously more wealthy than any other nation. Why should Americans make do with less when we have more resources and produce more value?

ETA: Most other industrialized nations have streamlined tax forms and transparent tax boards, which is why "taxes" isn't a dirty word in most of Europe. The reason we don't have a tax form that takes most people 90 seconds to fill out is literally that Turbotax successfully lobbied to block it.

Years ago, the IRS mailed tax forms out to almost everybody and, if somebody didn't get one, that person went to the post office or bank where they were freely available. Even now, the Form 1040 is extremely easy to complete, unless you itemize, once you have tracked it down on the copter and downloaded it and the 100 or so pages of instructions. The most difficult part is getting those forms and instructions. Completing the form is a snap for anybody who can do simple arithmetic. It probably takes longer to fill out the name and address than it does to do the calculations.

They will promise any and everything with their eyes still focused firmly on one goal, gaining both houses of Congress and the White House in order to pursue the only real issue that unites and drives them, the seizure and Nationalization of Health Care.

If education is your issue, then you vote for Health Care.
If immigration is your issue, then you vote for Health Care.
If combating man-made climate change is your issue, then you vote for Health Care.
If your sole motivating political motivation is getting rid of TRUMP, then you vote for Health Care.

Just remember, that when you vote, no matter what you are voting for or who you are voting against, the government that controls your Health Care controls your life. If you vote for this in the hope of getting your issue to the forefront, then you will get what you vote for.

Because historically they are small, homogeneous nations where everyone shares the same basic cultures and attitudes. There are forces (e.g., immigration and globalization) working to change this and you, especially as you look to unite under one banner (the EU) are going to find yourself drug down into the politics of who gets what and who gets to pay for it. These 'modern industrialized nations' are no longer so industrialized, as you very much so pointed out, i.e., at the present we are 'ridiculously more wealthy' than they are. How can that be unless Socialized systems destroy the 'Capital' required to create wealth?

As far as their tax system(s) being transparent, don't make me laugh.
Ours are equally "transparent" if you want to make a study of them, just like theirs.
Their average citizen can no more calculate the imbedded taxes and costs of compliance imbedded in the costs of their daily economic activities than can ours.
