Medicare for all, free college tuition, even letting the government do your fucking taxes.
With all the “free shit” the Left is promising in 2020, it makes me wonder why we need money in the first place if everything is going to be free.
I probably missed some of the other free shit they’re promising at my expense.Kant

If every other industrialized nation on Earth can do things, why can't we? The United States is ridiculously more wealthy than any other nation. Why should Americans make do with less when we have more resources and produce more value?
ETA: Most other industrialized nations have streamlined tax forms and transparent tax boards, which is why "taxes" isn't a dirty word in most of Europe. The reason we don't have a tax form that takes most people 90 seconds to fill out is literally that Turbotax successfully lobbied to block it.
No, we don't. Going by how things are now, we believe in redistributing wealth upward, mainly to the military-industrial-complex and Wall St. Subsidizing big business and blowing up poorer countries is what most of your tax bill funds. The reason is simple.
WE believe we should keep the fruits of our labors.
Other nations around the world think otherwise and tax accordingly.
Your other talking point is just flat out ridiculous. Anyone who has ever had to file a long form 1040 with Sched C (and a few others too) attached knows how ridiculous it is.
Taxes for a big chunk of Americans are a lot more complicated than a wage slave simply filing a 1040ez.

If we did what most other advanced countries do and reinvested that in education and basic public services, we wouldn't have a third world power grid, crumbling transit infrastructure, a broken health care system, etc, etc.
If by "a big chunk," you mean less than 15% of the population, sure. Half the country makes $30k a year or less. "Wage slaves" make up the supermajority of citizens in our country because our current economy is literally built on exploiting most of the population for the benefit of a small number of people at top.

All the Democrat candidates have announced they will do without armed security as a way to protest gun violence.
Pretty sure I read that headline somewhere.
