Not to mention, if we couldn't stamp out the Taliban in twenty years, just how long were we supposed to stay?
I would only add:
If the U.S. had stayed in Afghanistan, besides having to fight an enraged Taliban that had been reinforced by 5,000 hardened Taliban fighters that Trump forced the Afghan government to let out of prison, the U.S. military / defense / diplomatic apparatus would also currently be dividing its attention between active conflicts in Afghanistan (boots on the ground), Ukraine, Israel-Gaza, and the emerging threats in East Asia, the Indo / South Pacific, and Africa. (The problems in South / Central America, along with the associated immigration and border security issues would also have remained.)
Afghanistan being off the board has made things exponentially more manageable for the U.S. military / defense / diplomatic apparatus.
Full stop.
