2112: Casting Call

hurray!

We've got a web-page! Many congrats, Lady_J, it looks really cool! I'm completely psyched now!!!

Just give me a few minutes to come up with a bio...

recruit bio

Name: Lauren H. Byrnes
Age: 21
Status: Single
Height: 5'10
Build: Slim
Hair: Short, Black
Eyes: Blue

Bio: Lauren has had a privileged upbringing: an only daughter, heir of a small fortune, she was raised under the strictest not only surveillance, but supervision of The Agency. In July 2091, just weeks after she was born, both of Lauren’s parents died in freakish accidents. It is said that her father was a high member of the government. It is said that the “accidents” were the doing of a small resistance group that emerged on the early 90’s and was quickly dealt with. It is also said, by some of the eldest servants of the family, that it’s more likely to have been The Agency’s work. Educated on the finest government controlled schools, Lauren grew up to be the ultimate seductress: perfect looking, extremely intelligent, well read, had already obtained her degree in political sciences by the age of 19, and is currently studying human psychology. Seems to have a natural ability for getting whatever she wants from those around her.

Potential Ability: Ultimate mind control. Can convince anyone to do anything she asks, to think whatever she tells you to think. Somehow, her voice conveys a sense of security, that if you do what she tells you to, everything will end up better than it is now. Lauren is also capable of reading a myriad of shades of honesty in your voice. If you try to lie, to withheld information, to mislead her, she will know.

Weaknesses:
1. Her major weapon is her voice. If she is somehow kept from speaking, her powers are unusable.
2. For her control to be 100% effective, she must know the subject of her control, hear him talking for some seconds, or at least know his/hers background. If this doesn’t happen, she will still be more convincing than any other, but it won’t be foolproof.
3. Her abilitie to control more than one or two individuals at a time is limited. It takes complete concentration to do it effectively.

Psy Ratings:
Attack 7
Defense 3

I'm not posting my power here...lets just say it is a good ability for one of..umm...Kelson's requirements.

These characters have a life of their own, so against my better judgement, I believe this Lauren broad will start by playing along «5. Because they’ve been kidnapped and well, they must!» but will soon slide more into the «4. Because they’re ambitious little bastards and want to climb the power-ladder themselves» category, the bitch... :)

Character Bio-New

Good evening everyone, although it is morning where I'm at!!

here's Johnny.... :)
Oops, sorry. Wrong forum...LOL

Here's another attempt at the character bio:

Name: Cassandra K. Holden
Age :22+
Height:Medium
Eyes: Brown
Weight: ??

Status: Single
Ability: Create illusions so real that other people in her "Sphere" of influence will believe that the illusion is reality. Sights, sounds and even solidity of the illlusions.
Weaknesses :
1. Sphere of influence is limited, 25 meters radius only.
2. The illussions lose effectiveness as they move away from the source.
3. Concentration must be absolute when creating these illusions, which makes her vulnerable during the time when she exercises her powers.
4. Using the mind in this case is more tiring than working 14 hours a day. So Cassandra is drained, both mentally and physically each time she uses her powers. The longer she use her powers, the more tired she becomes and thus prolonging the time that she needs to "recharge" before she can "safely" use her powers again.

Bio:
Cassandra comes from a middle class family, the kind that has 2 3/4 bathrooms subburb type. She is in her senior year at college, doing business studies, just like her dad who owns and operates a small but comfortable business selling machinery and hardware.

She is a resourceful girl having being around her dad's shop while growing up. She knows the ins and outs of the business. This fact makes her able to analyze, dissect and repair machinery at ease, although she is no "grease monkey".

She has always been in good health, occasionally getting "shit-faced"**I do not know the college terms nowadays since I am out of college for 5 years now!!** at college parties, but all kept within resonable limits. She has no outstanding sky speed tickets nor any warrants. She is an average student with a clear mind and unwavering loyalty to the system in which she was brought with. Her parent are fervent supporters of the government and its policies, since these two things are what keeps the "night" away.

**

In the bio I mentioned sky speed tickets because I thought it would be cool if instead of cars, everone in the year 2112 would actual be in flying sky cars with the highways in the sky due to the population and space limitations on the ground. This is sort of like in the Back to the future movies, where in one the three protagonists were tavelling in the sky with floating traffic lights and such.

By the way anyone remember what the car's name was??!!!
If anyone has not seen the movies, I guess I'm am getting really old....LOL

LOL

Lauren sounds like a true minx, I can just tell she and The Doctor are going to get along...

Kelson, as for secrets, I'm going to do most of the major plot development through the Doctor, so there are secrets in his bio as well. If you want to let me in you can email me a full bio at the above address, just label it confidential in the subject. That goes for everyone as well, but understand that we've had our eye on you for a long time, and you have no secrets...

Lady_J

a question:

Are the characters allowed to have immunities, i.e. immune to some of the secret abilities of the Doctor or the controller???

By the way anyone remember what the car's name was??!!!

Don't worry, I saw the movies... I think it was a DeLorean, but if you want to know what name they gave to the flying-vehicles themselves, i guess they still used the word "cars", no?

Sky cars

The car was a Delorian, I saw one parked on Fullerton Ave Saturday night, only in Chicago. As for flying transport, I like the idea, but I think small personal aircraft might be more realistic in this situation. Small hover vehicals exist today, so I'm all for flying. It's a little grittier than flying cars a la Fifth Element, they'd have height limitations, and speed limitations.

I think that considering there has been a long-term disruption in technology and science development, plus a huge part of the industry was destroyed, the level of technology is not as advanced as we might think. Of course, computers are doubling in power every 18 months, so there may be some crazy things that we can't even imagine yet... I've got an idea.

ps. the Flux capasitor is not standard in a Delorian.

I've got a question also.

One of my character's abilities is that she is somekind of human lie detector. How are we going to solve this? Whenever someone tells anything less than the truth in my presence they should let me know, somehow, for the sake of the overall story coherence... maybe they could pm us both? In this pm i could be informed that some statement was a lie, or inaccurate, or incomplete, but i wouldn't have to be told what the truth was, of course...

(not right now, of course, but once my training has develloped this ability)

Thanx...

I knew that the car's name started with a "D", but for the life of me I just could not think of it.

Lauren's question is valid because current mechanical or chemical lie-detectors are not infallible, but a human one could be the closest thing to the perfect lie detector. I would would imagine the recruits would be facing situations where they would have to lie to get out of sticky situations.

Answers

Let's see, as for resistence to other's powers, as you are being trained and your powers become more evident, you will recieve a psy rating from 1-10. The Doctor rates close to a four, and the new recruits will range in the 5-7 range to begin, you can develop your powers more as time goes along. So, someone with a rating of 5 in regardes to deflecting mental attacks would probably not do well, but a 7 could probably defend themselves. So... I suggest we all give ourselves a rating for our power and for mental defense, as Game Guru, I give you 10 points to divide between the two, ie:

Lady_J has a psy attack level of 6 and a defense level of 4

As far as defending yourself, an attack by someone with equal or greater psy attack to your defense will be 90% successful

An attack by someone with 1 or 2 points less will be successful 50% of the time

An attack by someone with more than a 2 point difference will be successfull only 20% of the time.

I hope this doesn't make things to complicated, I'm not so much into the pen and paper roll dice thing, but I think we do need a rating system so we know how we stand up against each other.

As to the other question, I think we should really make use of the PM system. For example there will be things that the Doctor's evil henchman will need to know that the rest of you will not. Just keep in mind who can do what.

p.s. Lauren, nice avatar, is that you?

The point system works for me.

Another question... are the recruits allowed to "upgrade" beyond the 10 points as they get trained and successfully(e.g. come back alive and in one piece) completes missions?? Sort of like an RPG gme where at each level the main characters get to achieve new levels...

An idea if I may...

What if there is no concept of good and eveil in this world of 2112?? Just the very gray area of "Them and Us!"

Imagine, "Hell hath no fury like a woman with Psy-Abilities...."

Questions, question, always questions... and one or two answers

Hi, Lady_J

I know this will only complicate matters further, but since we’re dealing with rather unaccountable and unregistered type of powers, I think we should probably give ourselves some flexibility in this whole attack-defence thing. I think it’s a great idea to use this power rating system, but as reference for determining probabilities. I mean when you say that the attempt to use a determined power will be successful 50% of the times, isn’t it possible to consider that, sometimes, it can be only partially successful? For example, Cassandra’s illusion could, in a situation like that, appear and sound real, but lack the solidity! At least in the training stage it’s only natural for this type of half-successful, half-failed “attacks” happen.

Another thing I just thought of: Since everybody is still to discover their powers, and some will be kept secret (Kelson’s, The Doctor’s) how do we KNOW, when someone is using one’s powers?

These psychic abilities are slippery little devils, aren’t they? :)

Zircon: What are you talking about, good and evil? That sounds like a bunch of 20th century old-fashioned bourgeois judaeo-christian mambo-jambo to me...

PS: Thank you, Lady_J, and yes, that’s me...

**Web Page has been updated, check out the new info in character bios and the new information page**

1) Rating system- I plan to award points after actions that warrant an increase in power. (I have a few things planned.) Points can be used to increase current abilities or discover new ones.

2) Secret abilities- I've decided that I won't play as a recruit, I will play through The Doctor and other NPC's that will shape the plot, therefore before using a top secret ability, you need to inform your leader, whether that is The Doc or another NPC of a rival group, although at this point you aren't aware of any.... hint hint...
Remember psy points have to be divided between secret/undiscovered abilites and those you declare on your bio.

3) Attacks- yes, I'd say that they can be only partially successful, for example when Lauren is distracted, she may only be able to control one or two people instead of everyone close by. I'm not going to create any formulas, I think that would take away from the gaming flow, I just ask that you be realist, as much as possible in a fantasy, about your characters abilities and their weaknesses. (You're not Superhuman, just extrodinary people)

4) Them and Us- I would think that your character's feelings toward the system and their recruitment is subject to personality, time involved in the project, and experiences while in the program. I'll let you decide as you play whether you develop a them/us with the public or with the leaders of the agency that controls you.

5) I'd like to get a recruit class of 3, not including the handlers before we begin, so if you know anyone, invite them to join in.

p.s. Kelson, check out the information page- could your character be part of the initial military testing? Lemme know.

Lauren-

Ummm..

Maybe "good and evil" is not such a good term...besides I'm not a Christian, so the whole Christian thingy is lost on me.

Were the Nazis evil? I don't think so, they were just misguided.
Is Osama evil? No, his beliefs are just different.
Is Big brother a good idea? Maybe, if you love security and low crime rate!!!

Besides, I get the feeling that "Lauren & Cassandra" are going to have a big "B***h" fight sooner or later.......

Ooo Cat fight!

Meow, can't wait.

Anyone wanna help me out and make NPC bios for handlers? They will be your guides through the fun and games of training, and most of them would be members of earlier recruit classes.

Think of some fun new psy abilities they can have.

Zircon,

There would be nothing I would love more that to kick Cassandra's ass, but I'm actually liking the way you think... and by the way, what I said was "bourgeois judaeo-christian mambo-jambo". Don't misquote me.

(But you're right, conflict is inevitable... whether I like you or not, I'll just have to beat the crap out of you) ;)

Lady_J,

I've got some free time, so I can help you out on that one... Do you want me to post a couple tomorrow? (it's kind of late to do it now - 4.00 already!) Should I just follow along the lines of the existing handler and add some psy abilities, or will they be kept secret too?

Not sure what you mean by being part of the initial military testing. Kelson could certainly be one of the soldiers being administered 95mg of Agent 67 a day, a veteran special operations soldier who has repeatedly shown loyalty? Eh? :)

Of course, I could even be one of the people in the cell, if you want...a few changes and I'd be fine.

Handlers

Kelson, I'd actually love to keep you as a military psy-badass strong arm.

Lauren, yer eyes is purrdy, AND go ahead and fill in all the abilities on the handlers, since they are just NPC's and we will all be using them, just use an 8 pt scale for their abilities since they are older. Thanks for the help!

One more

I'd like to have just one thin mint, I mean one more player, but I'm bout ready to get this thing started. Lemme know what ya'll think... (I never say ya'll, but it's quaint)

Hiya!

Good night for ya'll (hey, you're right, Lady_J, it it a bit quaint)

First of all, congratulations to Lady_J on your lost Literotica Virginity! Apparently you're Experienced now... Sooner then you'd realize you'll be Really Experienced, just like me... :rose:

I think it would be nice to have someone else, but if you want to start it off, I'm cool with it...

...here are those bios I promised! They're not that great, you can go ahead and spice them up, if you want to. I'm still thinking about what my secret ability should be... I'll e-mail you an updated bio. ;)

Good Stuff!

Yummy bios, now I'm getting all excited.
I'm going to go ahead an plan a start date, Monday or Saturday- you folks pick. If we don't get one more, I'll plan 2 NPC recruits to join you.

I say we wait until monday... usually there are more folks around during the weekend, maybe someone knew will show up...

In the mean time, I'll PM the people I met in here, in my other RPGs, to see if anyone wants to join in. Think you could do the same, Lady_J?

Try to convince Crysede, for example, I like her, and maybe we need someone with that kind of experience, there are a lot of newbies among us (I know I'm one)...
