I remember wanting to be Molly Ringwald in the 80's. What ever happened to her?

Molly Ringwald?

I just saw her in an HBO movie the other night. She's still around. Did anyone see her in "The Stand"? Actually got me to cry once or twice. She started singing our national anthem in that one. That made me cry too, and not because on pride in my country.

I turned 21 in 1980 & had a few years to party before my son was born. I loved New Wave, thanks to my younger, hipper sister. The main things I remember about the 80's are sex, big hair, sex, spandex, sex, alcohol, sex & more sex. AIDS was just starting to be talked about, glad I got out of the club scene before it got too out of control. I hadn't thought about that in ages, now where did that "Flashdance" soundtrack get to?

Now I hear the music
Close my eyes.. feel the rhythm

In a flash, it takes hold of my heart

What a Feeling!

Being's believing!

I can have it all
Now I'm dancing for my life!

Take your passion!
And make it happen!

AHHH sorry .... I just couldn't resist!
(Irene Cara rules!... also love the music from "Fame"... used to love that t.v. show!)

damn you Jade!!!

You people keep putting songs in my head!! If Napster charged people id be broke!!

Awe Hunny!
Believe me you aren't the only one!

I am dancing my ass off to the music in my head right now!
LOL... and trust me.. it is NOT a pretty sight!

Perhaps I should take dancing lessons... nah... I don't want to have to pay the instructor's medical bills when I bruise his/her feet!

The 80's

First sex
Bad Haircuts (spiked "Corey Hart" hair in the summer, a mullet *cringe* in the winter so I would have sweat curls coming out from underneath my helmet playing hockey)
More sex
Bad Bands -Platinum Blonde, Flock of Seagulls, Depeche Mode
Good Bands- Bruce Springsteen, Red Rider, Tears for Fears
Even more sex
Graduation
A whole lot more sex
Bad TV - Solid Gold (excellent masturbation material though), The Dukes of Hazaard, Miami Vice
Good TV-Hill Street Blues, MASH, Cosby
New and interesting varieties of sex (like doing it somewhere besides in a car)
Hockey....lots and lots and lots of hockey and a lot of the reason why I was having lots of sex
See above
Suspenders with acid washed jeans (what in fuck was I thinking)

I'm going to stop now i'm getting all misty eyed...

I wish I looked that cool (Mork)

It was this whole pseudo-punk/new wave "Le Chateau" fashion felony trip that we were on.

PJ O'Rourke said it best "Age and guile beat youth and a bad haircut" anyday.

Everybody wants to trule the world....

I actually forgot to mention PRINCE! *slapping self on wrist* How could I? His movie Purple Rain, I watched over and over again.

Prince...and why women were atracted to the narrow effeminate, truly weird little prick.

A true mystery from the 80's

*Darling Nicki and When Doves Cry were two of my faves though*

Not that I'm a fan or anything ;)

Even though he's the lil purple man, he exudes sex appeal and charisma. He's wickedly smart and talented and he's written some hella cool music to get nekkid to! *blush*

I think that he dresses in costumes instead of clothing and knows how to use mascara just adds to his mystique.

Okay, I'll quit gushing and making you ill, Ex ;)

Using one of my favorite eighties expressions... Gag me with a wet FieldMouse Payne.

Sorry, I just do not get the whole symbol boy is sexy routine.

Okey Dokey, SmartyPants! Some hoomahns are attracted to others based on intelligence and talent, while others go for the more outwardly obvious assets like big bazoombas. heehee

Isn't there someone from the 80's you were attracted to, besides say, Samantha Fox? ;)

Never a big Samantha Fox fan (she had great quantity but not great quality) you just knew she was vapid besides.

Phoebe Cates and Lee Aaron (although I wasn't a fan of her music) in the eighties ... oh yeah and the girl from The Spoons with the crimped hair. They were my fantasy things (yes I used to objectify too)

You actually hit the nail on the head Payne. I was far more interested in esthetics than in substance back then. So much so that when I actually found someone who had both I was too stupid to hang on to her.:(

I have since reformed, grew up, matured whatever...

However (bearing in mind "whatever floats your boat") I still think Prince is just a little too weird and "troubled" and skinny and weird and ....did I mention weird

hee hee hee

LOL! Meany! Weird is purely subjective!

Well, when he was at his hottest, I was about 13-15, and he fit right in within everyone else who was hottie material then. Hell, the hairbands wore more makeup and less clothing that he dared. It wasn't until much later that he donned those asscheek baring pants and refused to be called Prince. Prince Prince Prince damn it that's your name use it!

Mall bangs, parachute pants, sweater tanktops, deck shoes with no socks were all must haves and braces were actually cool. God, that seems 4 or 5 lifetimes ago. Scary to think that will all cycle back around any minute now.

The 80's, I love em.

I have spent an evening at work with one one my colleagues searching through anything we could find on the net to do with the 80's. These aren't in any particular order:

Thundercats
Wizbit
The Care Bears
Pogo sticks and Space Hoppers
Punky Brewster
Cities of Gold
Dungeons and Dragons
Ah-ha
He-man
Gummi Bears
Danger mouse
Bod

Etc.

I had a pair of dark green leggings and also a pair of pastel blue and a puff-ball white skirt with blue polka-dots to match.

thanx for the memories.....
