Quoting Tom Waits now, I am so impressed!

But maybe everything that dies someday comes back
Put your makeup on fix your hair up pretty
and meet me tonight in Atlantic City" - some other Joizy guy

These old tom-cat feelings you don't understand,
Well I turn around to look at you, you light a cigarette,
I wish I had the guts to bum one, but we've never met,
And I hope that I don't fall in love with you."

I could probably think back and come up with alot of stuff from the 80's but it looks like most of you have covered it all. There is one thing you seem to have forgoten though.

Parachut Pants!! Silver studded belt either in the loops holding up the pants or wrapped around one shoulder going in an angle and wrapping around the waist.

I had a pair of red and black parachut pants (what the hell was I thinking)

Hey Jersey boy .. one more post and you lose your virginity .. post it to me baby ... (at 30 posts you become "experienced")oh yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ...

and quote Bruce please :)

<hugs>

Lezz-see...80's Right?

What sticks out in my mind, and at the cost of being redundant:

1)zippers(lots of em)
2)"For Members Only" jackets
3)Pastels
4)Two-hour farewell episode of M*A*S*H
5)'Prairie' skirts
6)"Dingo" boots
7)Rebirth of the mini-skirt
8)Bandanas around the ankles
9)Blinding white leather "Converse" 'high-tops'
10)Wings (not the band, the hair-style)
11)"Garfield" mugs from "Hardees"
12)The 'Burger Wars' aka-"Where's the Beef?"
13)Reganomics(I am still getting 'trickled' on)
14)Joe Camel
15)Those weird ovaly-lookin plastic barretts, with the matching plastic stick you stuck through them
16)All those poigniant love ballads
17)Comadore Vic Computers
18)"One's" debut on MTV-(when Metallica sold out)
19)"Hated it."-- from the skit 'Men on Film' on "In Living Color"
20)The song "Cult of Personality"
21)Iran/contra hearings (I still want to use the Regan defense,"I don't remember", and get away with it)

The scoop on the "IT" Girl..

ha ha William ... it took me a while to figure out who you meant .. Clara Bow ... 1920s sex starlett who was know as the "It" Girl ..

The following excerpt is from the book "Hollywood Babylon":

"Clara took on Trojans by the bunch. She'd play party girl to the entire "Thundering Herd" (crack University of Southern California football team) during beery, brawling, gangbanging weekend parties, accommodating the funloving bruisers right down to the eleven man: hulking tackle Marion Morrison (later known as John Wayne).

The "It" Girl was said to have showered her beloved "Thundering Herd" with gold cigarette cases and cuff links; furnished several Trojan frat houses (which housed her sex-athletes) with bootleg booze and squandered her cash playing all-night poker in the kitchen with her chauffeur, cook, and maid."

Now that was a very, very naughty girl ... holy shit!!!

IT :)

Miss Bow,

I am used to most of my posts taking three days to ferment (actually, a lot of them turn to compost).

Clara Bow later married Rex Bell, the cowboy star, but didn't take well to his plans to enter politics. Public life sucked and she had far better hobbies as you have found.

Regards,
Chester :)

oooooh ok i see now William ... are you calling me dense now? lol ... it takes me three days to figure out your obscure references? ... darling seriously i usually get them right away, don't i? .. in fact i even explained to April bout William Bendix and all ..

yup .. sharp as a tack .. that's me ..

btw .. who's Chester? :)

Hi all, going to jump in to defend the original "It Girl", the divine Clara Bow. She is one of my favorite actresses, I really was born in the wrong era-lol. Most of the stories about her are totally untrue. She was a sexually abused child & teen at the hands of her Mother & father. When she went to California, she was treated appallingly badly by the big shits in charge of Paramount Studios. She did like men & was engaged to several big stars & did have a lively sex life, but no more so than any of the other stars of that era. When her career ended, in part because she was terrified of microphones, she did marry Rex Bell & retire to Nevada. The rest of her life was spent living privately, while he fulfilled his political aspirations & supported a mistress for many years. She had servere mental problems her whole life, but was not the raging slut portrayed in "Hollywood Babylon". A better book about her is "Running Wild, The Clara Bow Story." The Cars put her image on one of their albums back in the 80's, which got people interested in her all over again.

Miss Clara,

You probably figure out my arcane nonsense better than anyone else. I was referring to my uncanny ability to kill threads or lob jokes with the accuracy and efficiency of scud missiles. If I was doing standup, my drummer would develop carpal tunnel syndrome from having to supply constant rimshots. :)

Chester A. Riley was William Bendix' character name on The Life of Riley (at least what my dim memory tells me).

I'm gonna have to run with you on this one Expertise. That Prince creature is awful and I only have on song of his in my entire house, and that would be "I love you in me." There are others that are okay, but I can't stand Prince anymore than I can stand the Great Gloved one with bubbles and the nose job. Ick. These people leave me cold. In a bad way.

Candy O?

hey Terry luv ... how cool .. ummmm k i searched the net for Cars album covers .. there is no image that i see that looks like the "It" girl .. do you know which album? is it perhaps Candy O? is that her?

ha ha Chester .. sorry i missed that one ... i thought Chester was the name of a cowboy or something because of Clara's cowboy .. lol .. now, now you know i love your arcane nonsense dear ... :)

I wasn't a Cars fanatic, but what I recall is a whole series of Vargas' Girls and I remember a todo about it since the old man came out of retirement to do Candy O.

Hello Isabella, I did some looking & it wasn't The Cars, it was Prince-duh. He put a picture of Clara Bow on his album "Around the World in 80 Days." I hope I finally got it right. I have one of those awful "got to correct an error" mindsets & this was bugging the heck out of me. Prince is not one of my favorites, but anyone who likes Clara Bow can't be all bad.

She wore a Raspberry Beret

ohhhhh Terry ... how wonderful of you to sleuth the It Girl album cover ... Prince's album cover you say ... Around the World in a Day... oh that is cool ... i am a Prince fan .. i mean he really is talented .. love his lyrics ... :)

They say the first time ain't the greatest

I wouldn't change a stroke
'Cause baby I'm the most
With a girl as fine as she was then
