A Canadian view of America

Bloody hell this thread moves quickly. I was halfway down the first page when I started typing that last one!

A few weeks without American politics; one sniff and you're in like a score of coyotes on the feast of debate!

It hurts because it's true. Now help me zip up my coyote costume.

Can someone just say the blatantly obvious?

The guy is a wanker. He's just as nationalistically obtuse as the Americans he rails against. He thinks Canada is going to become the new America, fill their global superpower role? Hell, not just that, but after yelling and yelling about the sins we have committed for the dubious glory of being such a superpower, he still wants it? Is he missing neurons? I mean, fuck.

It's not about loving my country. I do. I don't wave flags or support wars without reasons or hate who my government tells me to hate. Furthermore, I'm anti-authoritarian. On top of that, I have a negative view of humanity. But I still like living here. I love the nature, the people I can for the most part hang with, and the institutions are annoying and vexing, but hopefully not lethal. Etc.. You get the point.

Our status as empire may be short-lived. I hope so. Gorbachev had the right idea when he had the balls to say "fuck the power struggle, let me just feed my people." Let us rebuild the social constructions that made us beautiful and let go of the foreign struggles that have made us hated. Let us still defend ourselves with 100% focus and determination, but let someone like the UN, IMF, and World Bank start taking the brunt of responsibility for the world. I'm not saying full isolationism, but just no more empire.

Furthermore, I think the "crisis" is easily solvable if certain parties *cough* Democrats *cough* or their inevitable replacements develop some god damned balls and spoke the honest truth about a few things. We are a liberal, caring nation. We just need to bring that back into national politics instead of the damned middle school popularity contests where the boys fought for the school's love by beating random people up and acting like vindictive assholes.

America can be beautiful if we only have the strength to stage a revolution against assholes. Do we have that strength, America? Will you stand firm against the name-calling and threats for the land we love? Or will you whine about Christians and idiots?

Hmm, two patriotic posts in one day. Keep up at this pace and amicus might move back in with me. Sigh, I miss his mouth. I could go so deep.
