"Sent Back" but no hint why

Just make sure you add chapter 4 to the series at submission time (using the story form). Since your series is manual (and has to be, given your title convention), you cannot count on the site to pick up that “4: …” is indeed chapter 4 of the series.
All the parts of the series were added before any of them were written let alone published !
Are you saying that even if a story is linked into a manual series that's manually ordered as well while it's being drafted one still needs to explicitly tell the approver in the notes section that it's in a series. I am coming to believe that this platform is that clunky ! :)

Also can I ask where I gave the impression to people about my title 'conventions' I don't think there can be anything clearer than writing a title where the first character is a digit between 1 and 7 (was 6)
They are

1: Sarah's Uncertainty Ends
2: The Day At Work
3: A Very Disappointing Evening
4: Bus, Bath and Clamps Off
5: Restrained and Pull a Train
6: Decompressing
7: The Names and Pierced

Clearly that impression has been created because almost every reply tells me I have 'dishevelled' ! ? titles.

Since I have another series to publish where I likewise intend multiple chapters that I will put into a series and number sequentially as well as giving a thematic name to I'd like to understand what would be considered more appropriate or less dishevelled?

Maybe that should be another thread?

Thanks for your guidance so far It is useful as a newbie to have somebody who knows the ropes :)

Nah, I don't think so. I haven't had any problems with that even with stories whose titles didn't indicate any ordering at all (or indeed, the fact they belonged to a series in the first place). I'm just talking about this option in the story form:

Setting up a Series has a delay. It goes off to the site for some reason, not sure why - but there's a delay.

There's no common title string.

See my post up above, and look at any other chaptered story on this site.

Title Title Ch.01
Title Title Ch.02
Title Title Ch.03

If you title your chapters that way, the site automatically joins them together, and there's no need to set up a Series.

You've not got a common string of characters - which is what the system needs. Keep in mind, you only have 35 characters, so the main title needs to be concise.

Your titles up above could go into the sub-title - you have 65 characters (I think) to play with.

Pick a couple of words - Title Title, then Ch.01, Ch.02, Ch.03.

Look at anyone's story list and you'll see how it works.
Maybe that should be another thread?

You're getting advice from several people who have been here a long time, who regularly publish chaptered stories. I suggest you forget your notion that your system makes sense - it doesn't.

Pay attention to what we're all saying, and follow the convention. If you do that, you won't have any issues, and you won't need to set up a Series.

Cool
Thnx
I think I've got enough understanding to summarise.
- There's been a longstanding convention of chapter naming that allowed the platform's automated routines to create series.
- The admins have added a capability for manual creation of series.
- Having arrived recently and read the system documentation (!) I've adopted a scheme based on capability not on convention.
- Some people involved in the process follow the old convention (perhaps without full consideration of the new capability).

Thnx for your help.
Much Appreciated
:)
