In other words, and still the salient point, we were inundated with bad information, which, in turn, we employed by politicians in a naked power grab just because they could. Because we rolled over under the influence of faux fear and begged for a belly rub.

Showing a number of papers being retracted does not make that point, even if the cause was ethics violations. The paper I presented gives numbers in the 100s of thousands of papers on the topic just by 2021. Less than one percent having bad data, actually is quite a good amount of good information.

Neither has recovered, but politicians pat themselves on the back and partisans gloat with them.

I see no concern here with the validity of Covid claims that resulted in a general panic,
just a concerning tendency to protect Big (Obtrusive) Government in our lives.

Covid was politicized from the beginning in an effort to unseat a sitting president and then for the government, federal, state and local to exert a massive overreach of power to dominate and control people's lives. Forcing a vaccine that didn't do at all what it was supposed to on people in order for many to keep their jobs. It is a proven fact that the vaccine did not stop people from getting Covid and many did and many still died, or they continue to suffer from the side effects of the vaccine.

The real criminal in this whole fiasco is Fauci. He knew in 2017 that this pandemic would hit and he publicly said so. Really? Who has ever predicted a world wide pandemic with such accuracy? He helped get funds for the Wuhan lab and he knew that's where this came from. Why he hasn't been arrested and charged is just unbelievable to me.

I was on the front lines working in EMS when this hit. Even before it was officially declared a pandemic. I had covid twice, both mild cases where I was sick with some flu like symptoms and what felt like a sinus infection. Got better and suffered no long term effects. I was never vaccinated and I continued to live my life as much as normal as before.

What finally put an end to the draconian restrictions on citizen's rights and freedoms was people rising up and saying enough is enough. It never made sense that WalMart could remain open but the mom and pop corner store had to close. It never made sense that you couldn't go to work, or out to eat, or to the movies. If the miracle shot actually worked life should have returned to normal as soon as vaccinations started. But it didn't did it? Because in reality it didn't work. Yes, it really is that simple. What it did do is make the pharmaceutical companies even more rich than they were before, especially when you add in the insane number of booster shots people were conned into getting.

In the end all this turned out to be was an experiment to see how far the government could push control. The shocker was how easily so many complied with being told they didn't control their own lives or bodies anymore. Yes, covid was real. Yes, people died. Many unnecessarily because of stupid moves like sending old people with covid back to nursing homes to spread the disease through a weakened population. History will not look back kindly on the absolutely abysmal handling of this outbreak.

How many cancer related papers have been retracted during the same time period?

I did some basic searching on this and figures for 2017 were quoted variously as 571, 573 and 602 with respect to cancer.. As there was no common rationale for retracting them, not much can be concluded. Commonly however, opponents of particular points of view infer that misconduct is the primary reason whereas it is more common for the researchers to retract their previous work because they wish to consider further and better evidence. It appears to be quite common for the findings of previously retracted material to be reinstated with further research/analysis.

OPs like the one for this thread are so unfortunate. There's good reason to have a serious discussion among researchers and other interested parties about the retraction rates of publications. There's an argument to be made that the rate is much too low, across the entire gamut of scientific disciplines. But from the OP, we'll never have that conversation. I would, politics aside, refer to the World Health organisations report that, in 2020 alone, 3 million people worldwide died as a result of the virus.

Kent. Before I listen to anything you quote from WHO, I would ask you to trace who controls them. I am all for a proper response and care for world wide outbreaks. I want to be able to trust doctors and politicians as it is their responsibility to care and protect the people. But this was brought on by a political entity, not a germ. And the people who we trusted to help us, instead were doing just the opposite. I didn't get the virus either and I had the shots, but I know quite a few people who did get it even after they got the shots including the Doctor in charge in Washington and the man who is suppose to be our President. Why am I, unvaccinated, with 2 of the co-morbidities, still alive and with no lasting effects, while my brother in law who was vaccinated almost died and was hospitalized for weeks with covid and has lasting side effects? Where is the miracle of this vaccine?

Well since the entire covid pandemic was unethical so was research done by those that never addressed the real origins of covid.
