My personal suspicion is that in the next 50 years brain science will tell us a lot more about what's actually going on, and we will be changing our opinion on how good or bad idea it is. I'm somewhat suspicious simply because it clearly makes pretty noticeable short changes to how your brain operates. OTOH the value of those changes may be worth the risks for some people. Mostly, there is currently no right answer.
