A game for Geeks.. Quotes..

Hmmm.....I've read quite a bit of horror both new and old but that doesn't ring a bell if it isn't Barker ---- and Google is for shit on this one in case nobody else has tried it yet. ;->

Ask Jeeves didn't like it, either. The thing is, I'm not real big on horror movies, so if it came from one of those, I've no clue. Noiw then, if it's a book, I'll get to it eventually! It's vauguely familiar, though, so I think maybe it is a book.

Oh, I assumed it was a book. I realize I used the movie title of Barker's actual tale which is The Hell-Bound Heart so that was probably confusing......not that I'm in a position to hand out clues or confuse anyone since I don't know what the actual quotation is from. Sheesh. I'll jest hush-up now and content myself with tangential thoughts of Richard Laymon's next reprint.

sigh.

Oh trust me, i thought ahead ... to include Jeeves.

Yes, the quote comes from a book.

And no, i won't give out private hints either ...

I can't find it anywhere on the net, so have fun in the library snowy. :)

When not even the meta search engines can find it, I give up.

i have searched it inside out and backwards. it is not anything you are going to find online. unless he was shopping on amazon and he read a page from the book...i dont think that would google...hmmmm.

I wasn't even going to ask, AA. But I am going to the library in a bit.
chuckle ... go to the library for a scholastic reason, not for the silly quote above.

i promised obscure, and "i have fulfilled my vow, sahib." ~ Azeem, Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves

Actually. I'm such a geek, I go there for fun! But I need to do some other research, so I'll look for that too, tonight.

Even Mamma.com, which often outdoes Google on some of the more obscure stuff, couldn't come up with anything. <Sigh>

Nah, give us one more day. Before you said it was a book, I was thinking it was something from the original Dark Shadows tv series. (Yeah, I'm pretty damn strange. Get used to it.)

i have come up with nothing, i even recruited a friend of mine who sells rare books and succeeded in annoying him lol. Sounds like something that would come from a chelsea quinn yarbro book but im pretty sure that AA has no interest in those. *shrug*

*gasp*

How come nobody told me about this thread before?! Glad I found it! They don't call me the Google Goddess for nothin'...

Hey, is there a rule that the original poster of the quote must find the quote on the web somehow? It seems to me it's not fair to expect us to Google (or use other search engines) to find something without first confirming that it can be found online...

If i remember correctly, you don't need proof via web.

Simply state from where the quote came.

Right, but I thought the game was that we're supposed to be able to find the quote via web. *pout*

Nope, Etoile, the rules say that Googling is allowed to find the answers (so are other search engines, btw, Jeeves can usually find some really outre stuff.). On the forum where this originally appeared, there were two related threads started. One for "Hey, I'm familiar with that <insert source here>, I didn't see that!" sort of neener-neener-neener-ing, and one for "Gee, almost the exact same quote appears here, too." The first one is the most fun, lots of Geeks in Glory riding the brainwaves there.

And speaking of "almost the exact same quote" syndrome. AA's almost appears in my translation of "Venus in Furs." I checked it against several other copies in the library here, and again, it was a very close match. Is that it?

"Since you have called me, I know your desire. It is a comfortless wish. You ask for pain."

Tanith Lee - Red as Blood

Right?

Oh yeah, I see that now. Doh.

So we're not allowed to post a quote unless we determine the source of the previous one?

Sadly yes. I hope AA comes back soon and answers though. Patience is not my strong suit!

I'm 99% sure I'm right, but would be nice if AA could verify.

Someone is using it as a signature in a german forum. Microsoft new search engine found it :)
