A hybrid comes to have the blood of one. (Male needed, vampire/werewolf hybrid 1x1)

He stared at her eyes, and saw something looking back that he didn't want. Regret? Anger? Dimitri pulled away from her, hurt showing on his face now, then his own regret as he realised what had just happened. He'd just acted instinctively, taking advantage of her? But then she'd wanted it, needed it almost he pulled her out of the shower, leaving the water running and carrying her into the room, laying her down on the bed. His head was a mess, and he stood there, in a position he was unused to, he didn't know what to do...

There was a strange emptiness that she felt when he pulled back from her, but she couldn't quite place it - nor did she know if she really wanted to at the moment. Hell, there was so much going on in her head at the moment that she couldn't really wrap her head around any of it.

He had easily stepped back from her, her gaze focused on the floor as he pulled her from the steady stream of water only to set her on the bed. Of course just as quickly as he had set her down she was sitting up again, tugging the sheet up to cover herself.

He was just standing there - and she just sat there,..both of them naked, the damned water still drumming against the shower floor.

"You should turn that off.." There it was. She found her voice again at least for the moment. She'd managed to shut off all of the thoughts racing through her head to focus on the water. "Actually..I..I can get it." Again she was on her feet, though this time she was taking the sheet with her, wrapping it around herself as she strode past him back to the bathroom, reaching her hand into the shower before twisting it to 'off'.

Again she found herself standing there, pressing her forehead against the cool tile only to shut her eyes, her grasp on the sheet around her slender frame so tight that her knuckles were white. Even without any heightened sense of smell she could smell the blood in the air from her clothes. She opened her eyes slowly, turning her head to stare at the pile of clothing before moving again out of the bathroom, glancing around cautiously.

"Clothes bag? Those ones are…ruined. I need..I need to not be naked." She did well to avoid his gaze as she said it, though her cheeks were red as she spoke.

"Clothes?"

There was a puzzlement in his voice, as though he'd never heard the word before.

"Clothes"

He turned the alien word over in his mouth, shaping it, feeling the meaning of the word. He started as he realised, glancing up at her guiltily, unable to prevent his eyes from sliding over her delicate body. He looked away. What was this? Guilt?

He shouldn't feel guilt at this, she was just a girl, a tool, a weapon to be used against the council, his care for her should only be the same care he would use for a sword or stake. He nodded awkwardly, then left the room, almost forgetting to take his own clothes with him, they were ripped and torn, but better than nothing. He pulled them on in the corridor, dressing swiftly before padding down the hallway into the entrance to the mansion. The once festive entranceway was shredded, two vampires dead on the stairs, the rest scattered about the floor, Valia was stood in the wreckage. She glanced up at him, raising a scathing eyebrow at his bare feet and unbuttoned shirt, but was tactful enough to refrain from commenting. He glared mutely at her, but didn't speak either as he opened a door, snagging a couple of the bags thatMarie had brought back. When he turned back he saw that Henry had joined Valia in the hall, and though he looked like he was about to speak, he held his tongue. His disapproving expression said enough.

He returned to Emma's room, tossing the bags onto the floor. Wordlessly he extracted her cellphone from his pocket, throwing that onto the bed. He owed her that much though he purposefully avoided her gaze, turning quickly and going back out into the corridor. He put his back to the wall beside her door and let himself slowly sink to the floor. What was he playing at? Tonight had been too close, far too close.

Emma didn't even flinch as he turned to leave the room. She had managed to get lost in some sort of daze, unsure of even if she had blinked until the bags disrupted her thoughts. The weren't loud, just..surprising. Of course she was grateful for the selection, really wanting to be able to dress in..anything.

Her gaze had lifted to him, perhaps trying to force herself to say thank you, but she couldn't. Her eyes had followed the cell phone as it landed on the bed and despite her obvious confusion - her heart was racing with excitement.

Still she didn't move until he left the room. He hadn't closed the door, so immediately she grabbed a few things from the bags as well as her phone, and made her way easily back to the bathroom, shutting the door. It was really the last place that she wanted to be right then, but at least she could have some bit of privacy.

The reality of the situation was that she needed to sleep, not call Charlotte. But she couldn't help herself. Her fingers turned the lock, cautiously eyeing watered down, bloody handprints on the walls of the shower before setting the phone down on the counter and setting her mind on dressing. The sheet was dropped to the floor, and she pulled on a pair of panties and a bra, happy with having even that bit of skin covered. A pair of skinny black pants followed, and then a tank top, but she pulled on a sweater over top of it, as though covering her body would help her to feel better.

Emma sank against the wall then, phone in hand as she dialed Charlotte's number, just waiting for the familiar voice at the other end of the line.

"Emma! Where have you been?!"

"Charlotte?" She could barely hold back tears as she sat there, drawing her knees closer to her chest. "There's so much…going on..you were right it's not safe here…and I want to leave but I don't know how.."

"What do you mean it's not safe? Do you need me to come and get you? Emma what's going on you don't sound right.."

"I doubt they'll even let you on the front lawn.." She rubbed her eyes, trying to ignore the tears.

For fear that Dimitri would hear what she had to say, Emma quickly said goodbye and hung up the phone, working quickly to text her friend more information.

-I need you to try to come. I need you to go to my house. There's a false back in my closet..weapons in there. Bring Sheriff, bring weapons. Get me the fuck out of here. Don't respond, I doubt I'll have my phone much longer.-

She sent the message easily enough, waiting for delivery confirmation on the message before deleting it from her sent messages, sighing heavily and clutching the phone in her hand.

Slowly she got back to her feet, reluctantly unlocking and opening the door before crossing the room back to the bed. She needed sleep after the ordeal of that night. She needed her strength. Emma crawled into the bed and pulled the warm blankets up over herself only to curl up on her side, the phone on the table next to the bed as she closed her eyes, needing to will herself to sleep.

He heard her move away into the bathroom, but he was already moving away, padding softly down the corridor. Should he have given her the phone? No, it didn't matter, she wasn't going to call anyone, she would know by now that no human could protect her.

He blinked as he came back into the hall, the sun was coming up and as it peeked over the horizon it sent shafts of bright, cleansing light into the atrium. It didn't look as bad in the light of day, the shadows of the night had elongated every pool of blood, made every body look somehow more fearsome. Now. It was clean, Valia was still there but she ignored him, stalking off to see to the rest of the house.

The werewolves would no doubt be returning soon, the most powerful of their cycles completed. It was good that they had been here. They didn't possess half the powers of a vampire when human, but a bare handful had slaughtered two dozen vampires, and how many else they may have caught up to as they fled.

Somehow he doubted Tyler was among that number. The vampire was ambitious, he knew how to disappear, how to get out fast if he needed to. He would be back, and next time he would be ready forthe werewolves. It was no good, they would have to go...

Emma hadn't thought it was possible. For about an hour she was in and out of consciousness, blue eyes opening slowly to find the phone still there, to find that Dimitri hadn't returned. She hadn't realized that she was exhausted and it was day time - she had practically completely flipped her sleep schedule just from being here the amount of time that she had. Was it completely due to everything that she had been through? Yep.

Emma was out..out to the point that she didn't even hear the sirens, coming up Dimitri's drive, or Charlotte pounding on the front door. Sure, it was a few hours after she had fallen asleep, but apparently her body was set on recuperating and that did not seem to include consciousness.

-

"Open the door Dimitri! Emma called me I know she's in there..I have the sheriff out here just waiting for you to let us in and trust me you don't want to keep the Sheriff…or a whole bunch of officers waiting. I mean, you can..but that's really probably not the best idea.

She knew it was a long shot that anyone would open the door, but at this point the best hope that she could muster was that Emma was in there safe and would walk out of her own volition, especially with how frantic she sounded on the phone - and then the message? Yeah, she had to come, and she had to come quickly.

It wasn't the best news that the Sheriff was standing there with a few officers not really believing a word of it. Ever since Dimitri had come there he'd been nothing but helpful so why would anything have changed? Why in the world would he be keeping Emma in there against her will? It didn't really make sense, but Charlotte wouldn't let it go - and so there they were. On his doorstep.

The door opened to reveal Dimitri, he was by himself, why would he need anyone else. He smiled welcomingly, but stayed in the doorway, blocking the way, and the view, inside. His posture was casual, relaxed, and he was wearing a pair of jeans and a shirt open at the collar. He was the very epitome of a surprised homeowner.

And surprised he was, though he did well to hide the true extent of it. He hadn't thought Emma would have been so stupid as to involve the police. His expression of surprise faded into puzzlement. He took in the Sherriff, and the police officers behind. They looked as puzzled as he did, one or two looked impatient, after all, he'd already met some of them, made sure they knew he was just a normal guy moving into the neighbourhood.

"Charlotte? Sherriff? What's going on here? Why are you in such a state Charlotte, Emma's fine. Why wouldn't she be?"

He stayed in the doorway though, even Charlotte wouldn't be able to get past without raising some eyebrows from the sherriff and the officers. Then he changed his mind, the kitchen had been untouched so he backed away from the door.

"What am I doing, come in, come and help yourself to some coffee in the kitchen. Just give me a minute, I'll go and get Emma. I think she's still in bed."

He winked at one or two of the younger officers, knowing that they'd appreciate it, even if Charlotte wouldn't. As they chuckled, following him into the kitchen he smiled charmingly at Charlotte.

"Won't you join them, I'll only be a moment, I'm not going to murder her with you guys in the house."

There was a laugh in his voice, and he'd spoken loud enough that the police officers could hear it. Now if she followed him she'd be in the wrong, the cops would be much less likely to side with her against him. He was confident he would be able to remove them as a threat, but he didn't relish the thought of killing cops and having an international manhunt on his back.

Charlotte was not thrilled with the comments - with the fact that he was more than willing to let them into his home, her heart racing as she stepped past the threshold. She wanted to go and get Emma. If she was in fact sleeping. Though was certain that it didn't matter. If Emma was there and came downstairs..she would want to leave. It was that simple.

"Yeah..I'll join them. You just go ahead and get her."

There was no patience in her voice, and she nearly stomped into the kitchen after taking one last look up the stairs as though having one last debate going through her head of whether or not she should just go investigate herself.

He was practically mocking her in his words and actions, inviting them all in, offering to go and get Emma. Some part of her wondered if it was all some prank at this point and she sat down in the kitchen, frustrated that Emma wasn't awake and down waiting to be taken away…or stuck somewhere. Why would she call and have her come if she weren't in some sort of trouble? It didn't make sense.

He woke Emma harshly, shaking her hard by the arm, but keeping a hold of her so she couldn't run. He leant down next to her, hissing in her ear.

"Just what are you playing at, you saw what happened last night, you know there's nothing they can do to help you, and you still get them involved."

He pulled her onto her feet, her slim figure barely a weight in his hands.

"Now I've got cops and your friend Charlotte downstairs and frankly I don't need the hassle of killing them. I suggest you go downstairs and explain how this was all a mistake. I'm sure you don't want their deaths on your conscience."

He turned away from her in disgust, though his face had made it clear that when he'd threatened their deaths, it wasn't an empty threat, he would quite happily kill them if they proved to be a problem, but he could do without the hassle.

"Well?"

Emma struggled to focus as she was literally torn from her sleep, blue eyes unfocused even as he pulled her out of bed. She staggered somewhat, nearly falling over when he turned away from her, leaning heavily against the wall as she tried to comprehend everything that had just happened.

"Well..what?"

She brushed her hair back out of her face, sitting on the edge of the bed with a groan.

"They're going to keep coming back here. Stop being an idiot. All of those vampire..things are going to just..keep coming back here. So what do you think is going to happen if I'm here next time. There..has to be a plan..and honestly..I need to not..be living in your fucking house right now.."

She stood, walking over to him and pressing her palms to his chest, shoving him as hard as she could - frustrated with the fact that she couldn't move him.

"How…how dare you come up here like that and…and rip me out of bed..and then…and then threaten the town? No. No you don't get to do that. You don't get to be all high and mighty after everything that has happened. If you want to speak logically and come up with a plan…such as…I don't know..something..something that doesn't involve killing off my best friend then yes, let's do that. But if I go downstairs, I'm leaving.

I'll say that Charlotte got all hopped up on the crazy and..had to come and spring me from my torrid affair but that I'm leaving anyway. Send a wolf with me.., I don't care. But how long can you keep this up before people suspect things? They won't suspect me to be back home. They already went looking there! That have a head full of crazy just like you and think that you won't let me out of their sight.

So. I'm going…and you're going to accept that..because I'm not just going to sit here and wait for you to create your army with my blood..and I'm not going to wait for them to kill me. If I'm going to die, I'm going to go out with a bang..in my own house...not almost dying all the time"

He couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at her defiance, though outwardly he maintained the image of anger and intimidation, within he could resist admiring her courage. She knew how dangerous he was, and now she knew how dangerous the world outside was. Maybe she needed to see just what might happen if he wasn't there.

"Fine! You want to take that risk then you take it, but don't expect me to step in to save you again."

He turned back to her, leaning in close.

"But you don't mention any of this to the cops downstairs."

Emma tensed at his words, managing to glare at his direction, though it faded immediately as he leaned in toward her, somewhat uncomfortable with the closeness.

"You know…you're not a very nice person sometimes..and…and after last night you should be nice to me all the time."

It was a low blow, but she felt she deserved it. She was definitely not in the right headspace to have said yes..or no to their little rough and tumble, but it didn't matter. It had happened.

She didn't say another word as she made her way downstairs, Charlotte nearly attacking her with a hug. Emma put on her best grin despite her obvious exhaustion, leaning heavily against her friend for support.

"Sheriff. Now..I know that she gets herself a little bit worked up but I can assure you that everything is fine. I think she just has a hard time trusting people after her last relationship. I'm sorry we wasted your time."

It didn't take much for them to leave the room, and then the house, yelling up a goodbye to Dimitri, leaving Charlotte and Emma in the foyer.

"Emma you gotta be kidding me."

"It's fine. I'm coming home, and then we'll figure all of this out. I have some things to look at anyway, I can't do much of anything from here,..but I don't think I'd be going very far without the help of the Sheriff so let's go. Let's get the heck out of here, and remind me not to plan any parties any time soon."

He smiled at the officers, returning their goodbyes with a friendly smile and an invitation to 'come by any time.'

He stayed on the landing above, looking down into the foyer where Emma and Charlotte still stood. As the cops left his face didn't change, but if you were really looking you could see the cold malice that had crept into his eyes. If you really knew him though, you might see an unfamiliar emotion hiding behind the frozen malevolence.

"Farewell Emma, I hope it's not goodbye. Hopefully I'll be able to see you again?"

He turned back into the house, he wasn't expecting an answer from her, and he had other things to attend to. He flicked open his phone and sent a brief text to Sean, the wolves should be back by now, and Sean would be able to keep an eye on them without being too obtrusive.

Emma left quickly with her friend, leaving with a rather terrifying knowledge that something was after her. She still didn't quite understand what that something was or how they could possibly keep her safe from it but at least she was armed with knowledge, right?

They made it back to town easily enough, and Emma filled Charlotte in as best she could. Of course she was met with Charlotte telling her that she had known something was up for a long time in this town but that this was all way over her head but that she was sure that Emma wasn't the only person in town that knew about the wonderful visitors that inhabited the place and came out at night.

The night fell quickly enough and Emma armed herself with a stake but it went beyond that. Standing in her kitchen she took a knife, drawing it across her hand with a wince before letting the blood drain into a glass, immediately wrapping her hand with bandages and drinking down the blood while trying her best not to gag on the taste. It wasn't Dimitri's. It was her own. But if her blood created hybrids and she happened to die with it in her system,..maybe she wouldn't die.

Charlotte came into the room and looked up at her in confusion, then to the glass reddened and stained from the blood.

"That's disgusting"

"Well Dimitri said he wasn't helping. So until we figure out if there is anyone on our side in the town…this is all I got. And he hasn't created his weird army yet..seeing as I'm still alive..so..I don't know what else to do. I can't just stay there until someone kills me. I won't. Look you should go home..I'm going to go out and maybe try and strike a deal with one of these vampires. Dimitri would kill me if he heard this..but I'm sure they'll smell the blood from this cut soon enough..and I don't want you getting hurt."

Sean was crouched in the garden across the street, watching through a splintered gap in the fence. He didn't see Emma cut her hadn but it wasn't long before the thick metallic odour reached his sensitive nostrils, he grimaced, guessing what she might be doing. He'd seen Charlotte go in with her, and that was a missed opportunity.

Think what you like of Dimitri, Sean was a relatively warm-hearted, innocent guy as werewolves go and despite Charlotte's earlier accusations he wasn't anywhere near as devious as Dimitri. He speed dialled Dimitri's phone.

"Sean?"

"Dimitri they've been in there for a while and, well, I think she's drinking her own blood. I dunno what she wants to do from now though. Charlotte's still with her."

"Sean. You need to focus now. Emma's the one they'll be after. Not Charlotte, so put her out of your mind."

The young werewolf didn't bother concealing a scowl, but he knew there was no point in trying to argue with him in this mood.

"I know Dimitri, you don't have to remind me. I'll keep you updated."

He hung up, then settled in for what he thought would be a long night...

Both females left the house, Emma pulling on a denim jacket over her tank top. It was obvious that she had showered in her own house, her hair smelled of coconut shampoo, and she was back in her own clothes. Really she just looked more comfortable, despite the fact that she had a newly bandaged hand that wasn't healing, seeing as she was technically mortal.

Charlotte walked alongside her to the end of the driveway, forcing a smile and handing her a new cell phone, having to pick one up once Emma realized she'd left it at Dimitri's house.

"Look I don't really like this plan, but I think that you really need to be careful if you're going to be trying to deal with people who want to kill you.

"Well the good news is they're not people. And maybe they have a different side to their story..you know? All I heard was Dimitri's side..they keep talking about a Council. If I can get to these Council people and get more information out of them maybe I can help everyone out. I need some leverage..right now I don't have any. Plus, wildcard right here. They don't know I drank my own blood,..I'm pretty sure they won't be killing me at least not right away. Right? Right. Awesome. Okay wish me luck."

Charlotte frowned at her friend before sighing heavily, hugging her tightly. "Good luck. But just so you know, I have Dimitri's number in my phone from when we did all those wonderful plans for him..if I get a bad feeling, he's getting a phone call." She didn't even wait for Emma to respond before turning and starting away from her, her hand already in her pocket, clutching her cell phone.

Emma walked the few steps back to her jeep that was parked in the driveway, opening it and climbing in. She was going into town…figuring that a heavily populated area was better than her house..which was populated by..well..her.

Sean was faced with a dilemma when the two girls split up. He wanted to follow Charlotte but Dimitri would be furious if he let Emma get out of his sight. He stood up, staying in the shadows but ready to follow her when he needed to. Then his mind was made up for him as Emma climbed into the jeep. He might be fast, but he couldn't outrun a car, he left those tricks to the vampires.

He raised his phone to his ear again.

"Dimitri, she's in her car, I'm not going to be able to keep up with her without drawing attention."

"Ok leave it, I'll come into town, the jeep?"

"That's right."

"Go into town as fast as you can, you'll know if you're needed."

He hung up and Sean stared at the screen ruefully for a moment, then slipping it into his pocket muttered to himself, "sorry Dimitri," and then he climbed agilely over the fence and set off in the direction Charlotte had just taken.

Emma pulled into a parking spot along the street in the town center, climbing out of the car with ease and locking it. Her hand was aching from the cut she had made, for the moment thinking that it had been a bad idea, but she double checked the bandage, glancing back and forth before crossing the street after letting a car pass. The roads weren't empty this early in the evening, in fact the town was pretty crowded. There seemed to be some sort of art fair, booths lining the streets, people getting their faces painted, getting henna tattoos, portraits of themselves. And of course there was alcohol. It was really just a good excuse to give alcohol to the kids of the town.

She smiled and paused at one of the booths, one of the kids who had gone to school with her recognized her and immediately asked where Charlotte was. She had forgotten that the fair was tonight or she probably could have brought her along, but instead made some excuse that she'd probably come one of the other nights it was set up. Her eyes scanned the growing crowd cautiously, her hands in the pockets of her denim coat. It was obvious that she thought the cut on her hand would draw out anyone who was on the hunt for her, even though she had wrapped it with a bandage. Walking toward another booth and not paying any attention to where she was going she very unceremoniously bumped into the sheriff, laughing almost nervously at the grinning officer.

"Emma! So where's that nice Dimitri? You two seemed to be getting along so nicely at that housewarming ball and then that mix up with Charlotte..are you two dating?"

Emma had to try to stop herself from laughing at the comment, shaking her head. "No. We are most certainly not dating. I have no idea where he is but I'm sure that it's far….very far…incredibly far away from here."

-

Charlotte's footsteps were knowing. It wasn't a very long walk back toward her house but the vampires didn't know anything about her and both she and Emma wanted to keep it that way. Of course it didn't stop her from having her guard up, or her fingers clutching a can of pepper spray in her purse just in case someone came after her - vampire or not.

Dimitri was actually getting rapidly closer as she spoke, pedal pressed to the floor as the Bugatti accelerated. He'd taken the call and immediately rushed to the car, it could travel faster than he could on foot, and it was unlikely that there would be any cops on these roads. Despite the fact he was at over twice the legal limit. He had a good relationship with them sure, but that wouldn't get him out of serious trouble with them, not easily at any rate.

But then if he lost Emma it would have made all this effort a waste. If anything he pressed the pedal even further to the floor...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He followed Charlotte soundlessly, only ten feet or so behind her now. His sword was slung over his shoulder, concealed inside a leather tube usually used for carrying paintings and the like :(. Eventually he couldn't wait any longer, he sped up, reaching out to her arm.

"Hey, Charlotte."

Emma was being held up in conversation with the sheriff, which she didn't seem very pleased with. For some reason everyone in town already thought her and Dimitri were an item and she had to repeatedly explain to them that she had just met him, just like everyone else. The sheriff didn't seem to be buying the 'just friends' card, though Emma didn't even seem too keen on playing that, either, even nudging her and winking.

"Yeah, but you left his house..I mean according to Charlotte you didn't answer your phone in days."

And that did it.

She flushed scarlet, clearing her throat and shaking her head. "Well that's not awkward I've only known you since I was little and it's completely awkward to hint that I've had "intimate" relations with someone. Thanks a lot."

Managing her best glare, it fell short when she heard a familiar sing-song voice taunting nearby in almost a whisper, calling her name.

"Emma…Emma I do think you're bleeding..

Her head raised somewhat, turning to look for the elusive Tyler in the crowd, managing to catch glances of his grinning face.

-

Charlotte of course hadn't heard him approach, so as soon as someone came out of nowhere and touched her arm she turned. The rest was a blur, her hand tugging the pepper spray from her purse, aiming, and shooting it in the general direction of her "attacker". Her attacker who wasn't even attacking her…and that was Sean…not..an attacker.

"Sean! Oh my god I'm so sorry!"

He gasped as the mace hit him in the face, a good dose of it catching his eyes. He stumbled back, clawing at his burning eyes with his fingers.

"Shit."

When eventually his eyes had calmed down from the rough treatment he blinked rapidly, shaking his head a little. The stench of chemicals was still heavy in the air, burning his sensitive sinuses. He coughed, he'd inhaled a good lungfull as well, it was embarrassing but somehow he hadn't expected Charlotte to turn on him with pepper spray.

"Well that's one way to say hi. I didn't think I was that bad."

Emma managed to excuse herself from the incredibly uncomfortably situation with the sheriff, who watched her practically shove her way through the crowd until she found Tyler again. He stood with his hand in his pockets, a grin firmly planted on his face.

"No dogs? No..half dogs?

"I wanted to talk..just you and me."

"Oh Emma I'd love to talk with you but not with all of these people around. Come on, then..away from the crowd, please." He reached forward and took her uncut hand carefully, pulling her away from the safety of the large number of people, his fingers wrapping around a doorknob of the closed bar before turning it quickly - breaking the lock and opening the door for her, ushering her inside, and shutting the door after her. "Now. What do you want to talk about?"

Emma's eyes were still adjusting the the dark bar, turning around only to have Tyler practically nose to nose with her, instinctively taking a step back. "I need you to tell me about the council…about what they want."

-

Somehow..she found it..comical. It took her a few moments for her to actually fully comprehend what she had done, laughing out loud at the comment before taking a step forward, clutching his hand and pulling him along with her.

"Come on you big baby. I'm the next house..and you need to wash your face." Still she was choking back laughter, shaking her head at the wonderful mess she had managed to make. "Really? No one has ever told you not to sneak up on a girl after she's just been told way too much information about what all of you are? That'll teach you." There was pure humor in her voice, but some of it probably rang true.

Tyler smirked, as he pulled Emma into the bar, closing the door behind her with a soft click.

"I need you to tell me about the council…about what they want."

So she'd flown the nest, this wouldn't be Dimitri's doing, he wanted her as far away from Tyler and the council as possible.

"What they want? Nothing as destructive as the half-breed wants I assure you. They want you because Dimitri does, we didn't know what he was after until now. Now that we know what he wants, we want to stop him. Think of the havoc he could wreak if he got his hands on an army. He's hardly kept things peaceful around here has he?"

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"What all of us are? Shit, I guess Emma told you then?"

He would have hunched in, Werewolves had never been popular, they were dangerous, avoided by Vampire and mortal alike. Dimitri was one of the few who had bridged that gap, but then his very existence bridged that gap anyway. But Charlotte knew what he was and not only did she not seem to care, she didn't seem phased by the idea that werewolves and vampires existed at all. He followed her pulling hand, still rubbing at his eyes, perplexity in his voice.

"It doesn't scare you?"

Emma watched him cautiously, staring at the vampire as though trying to decide whether or not she believed anything that came out of his mouth. If he was lying, he was a damn good liar.

"Yes but see you only know what he wants because you messed with my head. And then you came back and almost killed me. That was really nice of you thanks for that, it's really becoming a favorite thing of mine to be almost dead. So I'm guessing that's what you want, right? Me dead? Because..how else do you stop him from making his army of…things.."

-

"Sean, listen. Things have gone bump in the night all my life in this town and I've known things,..bits and pieces. I feel like all of us know something, if we want to open our eyes to it, and the people that don't tend to go missing or worse, come back completely different. Now I just know why."

She released his hand in order to unlock her front door, stepping back so that he would be able to come inside before closing the door behind him. She didn't pause, moving into the bathroom and grabbing a rag before dousing it with water and returning to the hall, holding it out to him.

"The problem that I have is that you didn't tell me what was going on. You didn't tell me that Emma was there and wanted to leave..and I have been worried sick. I don't care what kind of relationship you and Dimitri have, but if you want to continue having even a friendship with me, you're going to have to start being a little bit more understanding that if a girl that I have known for forever is missing for a few days and you know why, you sure as hell better tell me."

"Kill you? We don't need to kill you. You aren't the problem. No, we need to go right back to the source. You see Dimitri has been a problem for us for a very long time. We certainly don't want more of him running around. Once that problem has been taken care of you can live what remains of your life in peace, you do last for such a pitifully short time."

He moved around behind her and bent his head to her neck, breathing in deeply, stroking one hand down the warm skin.

"We just want the half-breed, then we'll leave the town alone."

"I don't know Charlotte, I know she's special, but I don't know why, Dimitri hasn't told anyone what he's after here, not even Henry. We just know it has something to do with her ok."

He sighed and splashed water in his face, rubbing it into his eyes, relieving the burning sensation. He gripped the edge of the sink.

"Dimitri's always played things close to the chest, but this, this is different. I'm sorry Charlotte, I want to tell you, but I just don't know what to tell you. No one really knows how he works, except maybe Valia, and good luck getting an answer out of her, if anything she's even less talkative than Dimitri. If that were possible."
