A New Direction

Life is a struggle

might as well wrestle with your dreams.

PCG, I have been single most of my life and have been a mother before I realized what it means to be an adult. We seem to not only to be surviving me but benefitting from my efforts.

Make a plan. Do what you can to put your finances in order. Tackle things in doable chunks. Set markers. This can be done so don't set yourself up for failure.

It's something about that time between our late 20's and 30 especially if you have kids.

I have had my challenges and yeah, I'm real grateful to be on the otherside. I'm looking hard at 40(few years off) now and feeling as if I'm at another impasse. I am encouraged by your decision.

Know that you're not alone, and that you possess the strength to fashion the life you want. I celebrate and support you.

Peace,

daughter

I try not to overanalyze, but it's a fault of mine. I think far too much. :(

I KNOW this is what I need to do, but the doubts creep in. My kids need me at home. I've only been working again for 5 months, and their behavior has gone straight to hell. So, I know I need to be here, and I will follow through with this, but I just wish I could have done it this morning when it was MY time. Now, it's whenever she decides she has time to talk to me, which might be today, and might be next week.

Just remember PCG. No one looks out for you but yourself. I know this takes real commitment to be able to chase your dreams, not to mention lots of guts. If you've thought this through then go for it. You will be surprised how things will fall into place when you reach that position and can't turn back.

I offer my best wishes for whatever you choose.:)

Write a letter of resignation. Deliver it today. If your boss is indisposed, send a message that your letter of resignation is on her desk.

I'm single, 38, never been married. No kids. It sounds quite different from your lifestyle, but what you are describing sounds very familiar.

The past couple of years have been strange to me in a way that other "life-plateaus" have not. Perhaps is is because I am in my late 30's- when I was in my 20's I changed my life several times over, basically by "starting" over. If I dare to characterize that particular aspect of myself at that time I might say "I was a master at disappearing acts.

I don't know- I think about what the past 38 years have been in my story. riff at 35 was not so different from riff at 25. But I compare riff at 38 to riff at 35 and in so many ways I feel like a different person. Oh, I am me- I always will be, but I am realising that there have been a few fundemental changes that have occurred (don't ask me to articulate- i am still trying to discover them as I write).

At 35 I got my present job. I dedicated my life to achieving certain goals with this job. And I have succeeded- not without a price (and I do at times ask myself if it was worth it), but I succeeded and I did things that I only dreamed that little old me could do. Now all that's left is to sit back and ride the benefits of previous work. Let the ship ride.

It's boring- it's not boring. I excel at what I do. When I am doing what I do I feel like I am SUPERMAN, which is thrilling in its own way. But I am bored as can be with it. It's not the people, though sometimes I blame them. It's not the place, though sometimes I blame it. It's not the system, though sometimes I blame it.

It's got to be me? Something like a voice inside that is calling for change or has been, and only now I am willing to listen to it. There's nothing outside of me that can answer that voice, and only I can answer it providing I take the time to listen. Last year at this time I was saying almost the same thing. I ignored it- or at least tried to by filling myself up with booze, bars, and video games. And in a way, it was fine- nothing wrong with that except for the fact that now I am listening to myself, looking at the life I have created and saying- hey, this won't do....

Maybe that explains why last night I rearranged the furniture in the apartment. Ritual behavior?

I truly stand at a pivot if I want it to be. I want it to be. But I don't want to do a disappearing act. I've got to make some decisions, set concrete goals, and work at attaining them. Good luck with your changes.

Well, I didn't mean to write this much, but your post reminded me about some of my stuff.
