A perpetual night

Shivaun Leth

My name, he thought. What do I tell her?
"My name is Shivaun," he said, deciding to be honest. She deserved that much, at least. She'd probably saved his life. "And I thank you, dear lady, for your aid."
Glancing around meaningfully, he gathered the blankets tightly about him. "Might you be able to tell me where my clothes are?" And my blades, he added silently in his head, hoping that they would be returned as well. He felt naked without his knives, quite apart from being physically bare.

ALISSIA

So they were going to the city to join with rebels, hmm what she needed was information , information on these rebels and then to infiltrate thier network, after she had the boy she would wipe them out like the nest of vipers they were.
where to get the information quickly she ran through her informers in her mind, she could get the information, but who could she trust to infiltrate. Hmm she'd concentrate on getting the information first.
Turning to her troop she picked out 2 magi's and sent the rest on towards the Citadel.
" you two come with me we have work to do before we can return" she told them.

In a dark dingy Pub Alissia met with her informant.
"I need to know about rebel groups operating with in the city and surronding area" Alissia asked
" Well that's gonna cost you more than a pint My Lady"
The Weaseled faced man answered
Alissia dropped a bag of coins on the table, the man looked in side
"Is that it ? this information deserves more than that"
Alissia smiled she directed a small amout of energy at the mans head he let out a small scream of pain,
"Now lets be sensible" said Alissia you give me the information And if it's worth more to me than whats in the bag you get more If it's not then ....well you get more.." as she said this she increased the pain in the mans head.
" OK OK ," he repied Alissia stopped the pain
" go on then" she said "tell me"
"ok right there is a group quite large but they only have a splinter group here in the city, All I know is that they are planning something big Something thats gonna kill a whole lot of magi"
Alissia stared at him "who are they and where can I find them" she snapped
"I don't know where their head quarters are but I know that they are a cell of a larger group know as red wolf" the man spluttered. " I know no more My Lady" he said bowing his head
"thank you" Alissa said
Alissa got up and headed out of the pub as she passed her two companians she nodded towards the man she had just left "kill him hs is of nofurther use".
Out side Alissa thought Red Wolf she knew that name She just needed to concentrate it would come to her but first to find out what was a foot in terms of danger to her and her kind. For this she would need help.

OOc sorry it 's a bit long

Arwarn

He arched red eyebrows. "Mindreading? Would that be when your head feels really full and you get a bastard of a pain right behind the eyes? I so, we are in serious, serious shit."

Slance nodded, affirming everything that Arwarn had said.

"Then we are screwed. Alissia, that was the wo... ah, you know her. Foolish me. Right bitch but quite sexy in an older woman way - she was with them. I saw her as I rode out of the town. She's one scary woman, let me tell you. The number of times she has looked at me like she wants to see me strung up is innumerable. She is a dangerous enemy. Nothing like a woman scorned and all that type of thing and she is worse than most."

It was on this cheerful note that they finally passed under the city gates and on into (hopefully) anonymity.

Slance shakes his head as the man says sexy the only person he would think buteful was... Jake says as they enter the city. "I've seen her quite a few times but... shes been asingend to my chase just about 3 months ago and I want to know why I'm sure they have better uses for her then chase a fleeing teenager with slight magic I want to know what they know." Jake jumps off the horse and says "we should start looking for a place to go and contact a part of the rebels.... o god whats the point shes probly reading your mind rght now." Slance syas. "well if we can contact them quick enuogh c'amon." Slance says waving his hand to fallow. "Were ganna have to wait till night I sugest untill then we find the most lowdown out of the way night club." the man slightly smiles. "And not because the woman!" Slance says with a sneer and eh turnes around his trench coat swishing and starts walking donw the street not waiting for the man.

Arwarn

[Women indeed! What does this mere child know of women? Does he know the white heat that courses through a man's veins when he sees her for the first time? The deadly poison of their words that are designed to entrap and entrance men, like flies in the web of a spider. Oh, they are clever. Their beauty that is evident in all of their sex, their honied words and willing natures. These hide the true female; their demonic ability to hold a man against his will and destroy him. His bitch of a mother, for instance...]

He had done with women apart from cheap whores who satisfied his carnal lusts. These were few, however. A man such as Arwarn who had learned to control his wants and senses so finely, that even those who had known him for lengthy periods of time did not know the real man. Only those with great amouts of power could see into the depths of his mind, where the darkest secrets that he harboured lurked.

And this is why he was extremely unhappy about being pursued by the mage Alissia. A woman with an axe to grind - the worst kind of mage.

As he followed Slance, Arwarn took the opportunity to sell his horse for a decent amount of gold. This saddened him; of all material possessions he owned, his horse was the most dear to him. However, a huge and magnificent black stallion was the easiest way to attract attention.

His business was just completed when he saw his companion enter a door, and Arwarn followed him quickly.

OOC - oh dear. Arwarn really has this thing against women. Especially sexy ones.

Slance walks in to the biulding it was quite deserted only a few people in there but it was evining and Slance knew soon it would be swarming with nigh clubers, cheap woman, strippers, people fleeing ether from the mages or the life that the mages impose nad hopefully contacts of that group he hoped to meet Slance walked to the bar owner and asked for a shot of gin Slance sat down at a table moting for the man to sit down.

Alissia

Alissia Considered going back to the citadel, but as she had no real evidence and she didn't have the boy she desided it was probably prudent not to go back yet.

Who could she get to help her the magi in her troop had only minor skills and were ok for taking orders and the odd bit of magic but no use for any thing like this.
She needed that Boy,even if it was just to prove that he wasn't who they thought he was, he was the right age and came from the right area.
Well it wasn't her fault, if the council and god had listened to her in the first place none of this would be necessary. She had located the other 2 and they were still with their foster families and would remain there until She Alissia sent for them. But this one, damn, why the council always made her foster out her children, she had no idea, not that she was maternal if they proved a problem she would kill them as quickly as any other being, that thought made Alissia chuckle that was probably why they made her foster the children out afraid that she might drown them like kittens when their crying annoyed her.
Back to the matters at hand The danger to her and her kind what was it and where was it going to come?
Suddenly it came to her, if you wanted to do the most damage to the magi where would you attack ? the citadel of cause.
Alissia Tryed to tune her thoughts to others inside the citadel, sending a broad band message to as many minds as possible, *Danger, the citidal is In danger* she waited for a reply but it was a fog of voices and impressions,
"shit and double shit I hope they got that."she said aloud.
why the fuck they couldn't have telephones put in the citidel she would never know.

Antheia Ferrington

Antheia blushed and turned her head. "Oh yes, your clothes. They were somewhat...dirty... so my mother washed them.. Here they are." She picked up a pile of clothes and placed them on the chair beside the bed. She was about to mention to him about the clean wash water on the right when the front door openend and Antheia's parents walked in.

"Oh wonderful, hes awake" said her mother, putting down her bag and hanging up her hat.

"Antheia, the trees in the north field need tending".

She was about to protest, but the look on her fathers face told her she better do as she was asked. "Yes sir" she replied, and took one final look at Shivaun before closing the door behind her.

Antheia's father knocked his boots against the door to get the mud off and nodded his head towards Shivaun. "Good to see you're awake. Now get dressed and leave."

Gemma looked over at her husband. "Really dear, do you think thats neccesary?"

"I do" he replied. "Mr. Miller was telling me about a thief running through the village, delirious and looking mighty sick. I believe we are harbouring that theif, and normally I would try to help but since its the Mages he's running from, I don't want him staying here."

Gemma was about to speak up when she was cut off from her husband. "Gemma, don't argue. Come with me and we'll leave him alone to go on his way." Before leaving, Mr. Ferrington called over his shoulder, "Your knives are by wood pile beside the fireplace. My family gave you no harm, and I ask the same."

Shivaun Leth

Gazing at the older man, Shivaun simply nodded, not trusting himself to speak. He waited until the others had left, then quickly dressed, reveling in the cleanliness of his freshly washed clothes. Finding his blades exactly where Areitha's father had claimed they would be, he tested their whetted edges against his thumb, smiling, pleased at their sharpness.
His memory still fresh of the elder man's admonishment, he avoided looking at the various objects of interest scattered around the room, and left quietly.
********
Trekking amiably across the pitted rows of saplings, Shivaun smiled, enjoying the calm stroll through the fields, and the feel of the sun upon his back. Coming around a particularly large tree speciman, he was startled to see the beautiful woman from before, Antheia, kneeling by its base.
He stopped, nodding his head to her in greeting.

Tick, tock...

Scorpio tapped his wristwatch with an air of great excitement. "Time's up. Here it comes!" All eyes in the room were glued to the small black and white television screen. It was tuned to channel 17, which was just wrapping up a live news update in the Citadel's vicinity. With any luck, the blast would be immortalized on tape in all its glory. "For Humanity..." Scorpio whispered.

**********

Having brought them this far, the guides had finally left them alone. They would probably get caught by the mages anyway, but, oh well... Mikatan led the way, climbing the slippery ladder and pushing the sewer cover out of the way. The three men were now inside the Citadel's basement. Mikatan surveyed the surroundings - large chamber, no supporting pillars, no windows, solid concrete walls. As good a place as any.

Raising his right hand above his head, Mikatan clenched his fist shut. They all understood the signal. Three pairs of hands simultaniously flipped three switches. Three timers began to tick off the last seconds of their lives. No turning back. Nothing to lose now... Mikatan shouted at the top of his lungs. "5! 4! 3! 2! 1! FOR HUMANITY!!!!!" The Citadel erupted in a blaze of fire, stone and glass raining down upon the city streets...

Alissia had just been about to try, and again contact the Magi in the Citidel, when simultaniously she heared a large explosion and her head was filled with screaming and images of Burning Trapped Magi. "shit , shit shit" she swore, This was going to require skill and power, she hoped that the council would be ok, the council chamber was protected by that many magic spells and protective auras never mind the fact that it was built from supposedly bomb proof material that it should be indestructable, it was those Magi not in there that concerned her.
Alissia tuned her thoughts in to the citidel again, and was relieved to find the power of god she tuned her thoughts to his allowing him to direct her power and energy as he deemed necessary. After what seemed like an eternity Alissia broke the connection dropping to the ground no energy left and just as the blackness started to claim her her last concious thought was I hope Mordins alright, or who am I gonna fight with. with that the blackness swept over her.

The roar of an explosion, followed by the building shaking beneath his feet. Mordin looked around the Council chambers, with a look of surprise on his face. He was the only one.

"Premature," the Concilman whispered. "Typical."

"My apprentice," Mordin whispered. He turned to go search him out, before the Councilman stopped him.

"The boy is safe, Mordin. As are all the Magi of significant strength>"

Mordin couldn't hide the shock from his face. "You knew? How?"

"What the God wishes to tell us, is his business alone."

Suddenly he heard the God's voice, a whisper in his head... "Give me your strength."

Mordin opened himself without question, feeling his Power flooding out of him. The Councilmembers did the same. Just as quickly, it stopped, leaving him exhausted. He barely kept his feet. The fire was suppressed, he knew, and the Citadel reinforced.

"If you knew..."

"Why didn't we try to stop it?"

Mordin nodded.

"Why? Who among the surviving Magi would question our methods now?" He smiled, a terrible smile. "Red Wolf is an irritant at times, but even they serve the will of the God, unknowingly."

"You would let our brothers die for public relations?"

"Please, Mordin. We both know you care little for the lives of your brothers."

Mordin didn't deny the accusation. The Citadel was a prison. He didn't deny he hated it. "I take it that's why you sent out so many powerful magi on useless tasks?"

The Councilman nodded. "Some stronger Magi must be sacrifices of course, to make it believable."

Mordin shook his head. "Now, I suppose you want me to crush the rebels? This Red Wolf?"

"No. We wouldn't waste your talents on something so trifling. Not yet, at least. For now, we have something else in mind for you."

"Who?"

"His name is Shivaun Leth..."

Arwarn

He sat where the boy motioned, clutching his tankard of beer and flicking his eyes across the room. Men looking for women, women selling it to men...all types of people milling around, having fun and drinking themselves into oblivion.

"So then, kid. You want information then? Tell me what you want and I'll tell you what I can - I'm feeling in a generous mood when it comes to telling you what you want, which is unusual, so you should capitalise on it."

He put one dusty boot on the rung of a stool, and flicked on of his precious cigarettes out of the pack, lighting it on a nearby candle.
For once, for one brief second, he felt relaxed enough to unwind just a little.

The taste of success...

"...were believed to have used plastic explosives to accomplish this horrible deed. The identities of the criminals are as of yet unknown, allthough the terrorist organization Red Wolf has claimed responsibility for the blast. We are happy to report that although the Citadel sustained extensive damage, there are no reports of casualties among the..."

Scorpio switched the TV off. They had been succesful - more succesful then he could have expected. Smiling broadly, he turned to face his followers. All of them wore wide grins on their faces. "Don't worry about the reports. I guarantee that lots of mages were killed. We really did a number on those motherfuckers, even if they won't admit it! This is a great day for humans everywhere. The first battle of this war has been won - and like a giant boulder rolling downhill, it will pick up speed, crushing anything in its way. We will be victorious!!!" To the sound of thunderous aplause, Scorpio left the room, already planning his next move...

Antheia Ferrington

Antheia scuffed her feet as she made her way to the north field. A light wind tugged at the ends of her hair as she looked up into the bright sky. She didn't think it was fair of her parents to send her away. She was the one who stayed up all night looking after him, she should have at least gotten the chance to talk to him.

"Argh" she said" "I never get to do anything". Antheia looked boldly at a tree and raised her leg back in order to kick it. But her anger subsided as quickly as it came and she put her foot down, hugging the tree instead. "I'm sorry" she whispered. Wiping a tear from her eye, she continued up the path.

She began to pick up branches, putting them in the crook of her arm. She bent down in front of the tree and pushed some dirt away, exposing a new sapling. "Now how did you get here" she asked. She was about to clear away some leaves when she heard a crackle behind her. She stood up and her eyes widdened as she saw Shivaun standing a few feet away, nodding his head in her direction.

Antheia stared backing away and hit the trunk of the tree with her back, startling her again and causing her to loose her footing. She fell back, her bottom landing right on top of the little sampling. "Oh no!" she cried, rushing to get up.

Slance eyed the man with suspician as he said. "So then, kid. You want information then? Tell me what you want and I'll tell you what I can - I'm feeling in a generous mood when it comes to telling you what you want, which is unusual, so you should capitalise on it." He ahs info what kind of info? Snace thought. "Don't call me kid for intence." He said to the man. 'And...." Slance fell from the table and sat on the floor a dazed look on his face as if he wa seeing some thing different he kept muttering. "The citadel.... millions.... death the god.... more power." Then he his head fell back and hit the floor and he saw black.

As Alissia came round, she realised that she was lying in the street, sitting up quickly made her head spin, her two companians had been fanning her, after thier meagre amount of magic had done nothing to help bring her round.
they now tryed to help her up,
"take your hands off me you fools"she snapped "one of you go and get me a drink
," you she said looking at the taller of the two "can help me stand"
Once up Alissia quickly imagined a comfortable chair and it apeared "thank the god she thought at least I still have some powers, sinking in to the chair she awaited her drink, as she sat she ran over the events that had led to her collapse, as she thought about them, it was like there was a dull itch in her brain some thing she was missing.
Her drink arrived and she sat sipping it feeling her energies start to return, then it hit her she sat bolt up right in the chair , The boy, she had felt the boy's contact and his power being used by the god, If she could just concentrate focus on that feeling of contact , had it been near ? was it in the city?
Yes it had been near, it was in the city but where,
Alissia focused her mind on Awarn If he was still with the boy she would be able to locate them both, there she had him some sort of night club the boy out cold on the floor. They were close.
Looking at the two magi with her Alissia adressed them find out the names and locations of all the night clubs in this vicinity, the boy is here.

Arwarn

"Don't call me kid for instance," hissed the boy. Arwarn shrugged; he called most people names that they would not like to be called, and kid was one of the less offensive ones. However, he was unprepared for what happened next.

"The citadel.... millions.... death the god.... more power." The younger man fell to the floor, eyes sliding into his head.

Glad for some opportunity to slap him, and just a little more concerned than he'd like to admit, Arwarn whacked him across the face with his palm. There was no reaction. Then, inexorably, the headache - that full and uncomfortable feeling - pressed into his brain. He tried to think of anything, anything than where they were, but he knew it was too late.

"Get me a horse!" he screamed at the barman, who rushed out into the chaos that reigned in the panic-stricken streets. When he glanced up at the mute screen above the bar, he saw what had happened. The mages had had it coming to them - hopefully the more annoying of them had been killed off. It had to be the work of Red Wolf - no-one else would have the balls to attack the citadel. Even though he thought the terrorists were fools, he was a little impressed.

As he hauled the boy onto his shoulder Arwarn was surprised - the boy looked light, but was a dead weight in reality, especially now and unconscious. He managed to heave the body onto the front of the horse that the barman had procured and vault up behind. Arwarn knew that escape from the city was impossible, especially as Alissia was near. He could sense her, like a rabbit could sense the fox.

Well, he wasn't being anyone's rabbit. Perhaps the crowds and panic would work in his favour. Kicking the nag forward, horse and passengers disappeared into the milling and terrified people.

Shivaun Leth

Nodding to her as she turned her face toward him, Shivaun was surprised to see her tumble back, not realising that he had approached unheard. Widening his own eyes as she toppled over, he rushed to help her, even as the small sapling she'd been tending disappeared beneath her.
"Oh no!" she cried.
Struggling to hide his amusement at the comical sight, he extended a hand to assist her, pulling her quickly to her feet.

dreamsss

Fire... no eyes with fire in them the god. The fire spilled out and took a different form and the eyes disapeard the fire fomed in to the woman who had been chasing him... Alissia she extended a hand to help him but as soon as e took hold the arm went a flame and she hissed at him the flame spread up his body and he sreemed Slance screemed with pain in his dream then it was gone all he could see now was the flashing of a gravol road going by and the sound of hooves he opend his eyes fully and tried to sit up but he couldn't he felt like a new born baby and he asked groggly Arwarn. "Did she try to read your ming again?" The man just kept riding. "Shes weak to the god took her power but she'll still catch us." Then Slance went back to staring at the ground waiting for his energy to come back.

Antheia Ferrington

Reaching out her arm, Antheia took Shivauns outstretched hand and let him pull her up. A little dishevelled, she brushed the dirt from the skirt of her dress and tried not to look startled.

"I suppose you are feeling better to be walking around" she stated.

"Yes" he replied, stepping back a bit to give her room. "I need to continue on. Your family was very kind, thank them for me."

"I will." Antheia looked down where she had fallen at the little tree.

"Not to damaged, I hope?" asked Shivaun.

"No, not much" relied Antheia, tugging at the leaves of the tree to straighten it up a bit.

Shivaun turned around and began walking up the path again when Antheia called out to him. "Where are you going anyway" she asked. "I mean, you don't have to tell me, I was just wondering."

Shivaun stopped and stood still, and Antheia thought he might be angry at her for asking him about his personal affairs. She was about to appologize when he turned around to face her, shortening the distance between them with a couple of steps.

"I'm looking for someone. They have something that they took from me and I want it back.

Antheia smiled, and nodded her head. "I lost something a long time ago too. Well, not something, someone actually. My brother. The mages took him."

Shivaun nodded. "Well, I have to go now."

"Wait!" Antheia touched his shoulder. "Are you going to seek the wise at High Point?"

"Whats it to you?" Shivaun grabbed her hand and flung it away from him, causing Antheia to step back a bit.

"'I ... was just wondering... "

"Its dangerous to wonder such things, especially now."

"You are going to see them! Let me come with you! Maybe they will know where my brother is."

_______________
OOC: the wise is this guy/girl whatever who knows everything. (i dunno, i just made him up!)

Arwarn

At least Alissia was weak - that was a start, even though she would soon regain her strength. However, Arwarn did not know where they were going, as long as they got the hell out of the city. It was too hot for people like them at the moment.

"She did read my mind, you know," he said conversationally to the prone Slance lying over his saddle. He kept him steady with one hand as they galloped around a particularly sharp bend in the road. "She knew where we were so I got us out of there.
I'm just trying to think of any safe houses around here. This isn't really my territory."

Everything was brought to an earth-shattering climax as the horse stumbled and fell heavily onto the gravel, screaming with pain due to a shattered leg. Arwarn felt himself fly through the air and collide heavily with the sharp chips of stone which sliced at his face and hands.

Pain flared
hope died
he lost consciousness ...
all he could remember was the blood that dripped from his palms and the dying, heartrending neighs of a broken horse ...

crash!

Slance turned his head just as some thing hit the horse and Slance rolled off the side as he stopped rolling he had alot of his former strength back he wipped out his guns and pointed them at a close by mage but they were wipped out of his hands by a woman that he reconised as Alissa and her hands were glowing and the guns were in them.

Mordin and his apprentice left the Citadel together. To look for a needle in a haystack. There was little conversation, as the apprentice stayed quiet in respect to his Masters thoughts. Where to begin?

Mordin had one idea. He would go to the Wise. He had stumbled upon them years ago, by accident. They seemed to have the gift of sight... a useful tool. He had decided to keep their existance a secret from the Enclave. In exchange for their freedom, they would help him with some trivial matters. He had never involved them in a hunt before, but figured they owed him too much to turn him down.

They rode through the town, ready to use their power. The humans scurried to get out of the way of the black cloaked Magi, for fear of getting run down, or burned to dust where they stood. Mordin never went in for that sort of thing usually, but in the mood he was in, you never could tell.

Finally, Tavis broke the silence. "My Lord? May I ask a question?"

Mordin nodded.

"Why were we not required to stay and heal the wounded?"

"There were no wounded."

Tavis turned his head to look at Mordin. "My Lord?"

"There were no wounded, Apprentice. All know that Magi can not be killed." He shot Tavis a meaningful look.

The Apprentice nodded slowly, understanding.

Mordin's eyes returned to the road befor him. The town gave way to woods, and the woods to forest. They would be to the Wise in an hour or so.

"Work on your meditation, Tavis. Control your breathing."

Meditation was something Tavis had mastered years ago, but as the command came from his Master, he was compelled to obey.

Mordin's only real requirement this afternoon, was silence.

Gazing at her, he shook his head slowly, not wishing to relinquish her company so soon, yet unwilling to take her with into possible danger.
"Its too dangerous, and I know too little about the risks as it is. I won't risk your life too. I must do this alone, as I must find my way out of this forest alone."
Turning slowly, hesitant to break away from her beautiful eyes, he stepped away, then stopped, confused, wondering which way through the forest would take him to his destination.
