A Poet Walks Into a Bar . . .

of all the bars in all the world... :)

well-met, you fonts of creativity, you sparks of wonder, you dregs of... yeah, well, hi! *long cold glass of something, please, light on the alcohol, tall on the fizz, thnx*

..
That's a paraphrase, Cider House Rules. Justapple juice and some nibbles. I'm buying. :nana::nana:

No Peas huh, better make it a coffee
black please.
I'm off the booze.
I quit until I make a million bucks.
I found in life that alcohol made me complacent.
I miss it badly.
Poetry is a diversion as much as an obsession.
I've been at this caper for three years or so and still don't know the difference between a series of connected thoughts and verse. Whats the G.O?

I’ve been playing with magic markers and crayons for 7 years and I still don’t have a damn clue!

Next time, try mayonnaise.

Barkeep, how's your Mai Tai? I want something that tastes like summer somewhere else. :)

I see what your saying, thoughts are real and verse is disconnected from reality.

Is that why poets like booze so much because it helps them avoid reality?

I'm sure poets like booze for all the same reasons that anyone else likes booze. ;)

Though, booze does seem to have a way of making some fancy themselves wordsmiths when they might not otherwise. :D

If poetry becomes an obsession
it's much more than a diversion
and forget the million bucks.

*pulls up a stool*

now, did someone mention bacon??? hmmn????

if bacon be
the devil's work
my soul
my soul
is lost

Yeah its a pleasure sure enough:) nothing like getting slowly sloshed while enjoying a fine meal or fine music or both. One of my fondest memories is enjoying port and dark chocolate in front of a roaring fire after a nice meal. Say does a tipple or two improve the hearing of poetry I wonder? Or does it obscure or supplant meaning?

Self delusion is a tragic thing, hopefully my abstinence endows me with only sufficient self confidence.

Thanks for the critique. Its a truly valuable thing to be able to give and take critique. I think I see where you're coming from, one of the definitions for diversion is "past time" and then the line seems illogical. But "past time" is not the only definition for diversion and its this other meaning that I used. The one that means "the act of turning aside". I mean that writing is an act of turning aside from alcohol as much as it an act of obsessive motivation. I simply meant that I have two good reasons for writing one is obsession and the other is as a diversion from alcohol from where I sit these are equal in degree.

Maybe you should give up booze and maybe you'd see where I'm coming from.

Give up on a million bucks!?!? Nah I just imagine how sweet that bubbly will be when I have a million bucks.... sweeter
Wait a minute are you suggesting that because you think I'll never make it? Or that money isn't important?

Lays out, snacks, fills balloons.

It's the brides last single night,
tomorrow her love she'll join,
but tonight's just for mates,
both sinners and saints,
to say goodbye to evenings alone.

So join we all to toast your luck.
Cheers, bars open; what's your pleasure? :nana:

here's to mona and mr mona... *raises glass* covid's not invited to this party and i wish you both every possible happiness!

What do you have that's a bit crisp and summer, perhaps with some pineapple?

Congrats to whomever is being congratulated. Yay for love! I'll drink to that.

And I could really use a drink...

/sits in the corner mumbling something about vultures/

When we'd come down from Kilimanjaro, and were buying beers for our guides and porters, they requested warm beer, something I still don't understand.

But, for me, in the mid-summer doldrums,an ice cold IPA truly hits the spot.

Hopping to it now, congrats to those for whom congrats are due, condolences to the rest of us.

Down the hatch.
