Audrey III (amorphophallus titanum), shown here flashing unwary visitors to the tropical plant house at Fairchild Garden, attracts pollinators by emitting an odor said to mimic a rotting animal carcass. How desperate is that? What good can come of a meeting between a blatantly phallic aroid who wants sex every five years, and a pollinator whose idea of a romantic evening is visiting animal carcasses? What if there are children?
