Acorn and Republican Values

The people of the United States Of America are ACORN's intended victims.

How do not realize this?

Waitaminnit, now . . .

ACORN is the nation’s largest grassroots community organization of low- and moderate-income people with over 400,000 member families organized into more than 1,200 neighborhood chapters in 110 cities across the country. Since 1970, ACORN has been building community organizations that are committed to social and economic justice, and won victories on thousands of issues of concern to our members, through direct action, negotiation, legislative advocacy and voter participation. ACORN helps those who have historically been locked out become powerful players in our democratic system.

Community organizing: Each of the 1,200 local ACORN neighborhood chapters in 110 cities and 40 states brings neighbors together to work for stronger, safer and more just communities.

Issue campaigns: Each ACORN office carries out multiple issue campaigns. ACORN members across the country work to raise the minimum wage or enact living wage policies; eliminate predatory financial practices by mortgage lenders, payday lenders, and tax preparation companies; win the development of affordable housing and community benefits agreements; improve the quality of and funding for urban public schools; rebuild New Orleans; and pass a federal and state ACORN Working Families Agenda, including paid sick leave for all full time workers.

A recent study shows that our issue campaign victories have delivered approximately $15 billion in direct monetary benefits to our membership and constituency over the past 10 years.

Service delivery: ACORN and its allied organizations provide extensive services to our members and constituency. These include free tax preparation focusing on the Earned Income Tax Credit; screening for eligibility for federal and state benefit programs; and, through the ACORN Housing Corporation, first time homeowner mortgage counseling and foreclosure prevention assistance, and low income housing development.

Ballot initiatives: ACORN-backed ballot-initiative campaigns in 2006 helped raise the minimum wage in Ohio, Arizona, Missouri and Colorado, working with community-faith-labor coalitions on successful campaigns in each state.

Voter participation: Since 2004, ACORN has helped more than 1.7 million low- and moderate-income and minority citizens apply to register to vote.

Now, which of the American people, exactly, are the "intended victims" of all of this?

it's kind of like Abu Ghraib...some low level guards put a leash on a naked Iraqi for kicks...but surely there were HIGHER UPS who were complicit in the atrocity and must be held accountable...
INVESTIGATE!

I know your lack of mental capacity prevented you from serving in the military, but it's worth remembering that the first 225 years of our nations history, military commanders were always held responsible for the conduct of troops under their command. Not always fair, but that was how it was done.

Under the failed Bush regime, the rules were reversed: troops are now held responsible for the conduct of their superiors. Hence, the low ranking enlisted troops were held responsible for the mistreatment of prisoners at Abu Ghraib. Mistreatment that was, in fact, condoned and in fact ordered by higher ups in the chain of command.

President Obama will hopefully reverse this wretched policy change and restore honor to the military.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have bitch slap.

Yeah...gee whiz...my draft card became useless when Nixon ended Vietnam and the draft was abolished...
You, on the other, were unable to serve due to your peculiar proclivity to suck cock.

Let's see who Drixxx thinks are "average people":

http://www.businessinsider.com/2008/12/bernie-madoffs-victims

Victim: J. Ezra Merkin/Ascot Partners LOSS: Up To $1.8 Billion
Victim: Fred Wilpon/Sterling Equities LOSS: Up To $300 Million
Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick LOSS: UNKNOWN
Victim: Sandra Manzke/Maxam Capital LOSS: $280 Million
Fairfield Greenwich/Walter Noel LOSS: $7.3 Billion (that's gotta sting)
Victim: Marc Rich LOSS: $10 to $15 Million (Karma is a bitch)

Waitaminit now, Fire. Wasn't the "trickle-down theory" supposed to be in effect here?

Aren't all these Richie Riches supposed to be the main elite people that are driving our economy? Aren't they supposed to be funding jobs and creating opportunity for the lowly service sector human beans and everyone else who wasn't lucky enough to play pro sports or be a marquee entertainer? Wasn't this (part of) the "good" that Wall Street was supposedly doing for everyone?

Don't get me wrong...I got no love for Maddy...but since everyone is still complaining about bad times, maybe we all should still be living under the soothing illusion before the crash? Just a little while longer? Just....one more hit?

*smacks vein in left arm*

Bottom line, ACORN lost it's funding. Cry over that.

What funding? Do you mean this?

Following the release of the videos, the Senate voted 83 to 7 to pass an amendment cutting off ACORN from funding from the Housing and Urban Development appropriations bill.

I just want to be clear, because the false meme that ACORN is guaranteed several billions of the stimulus package keeps getting repeated.

Sure.

When you were in Canada, Powertone, what did you miss most about the good ol' USA?

And I'm taking a wild flier on this one but did you ever run into Karl Rove or Dick Cheney when you were up there? If so, please share. It would be interesting to hear what they were like back then.

ACORN's victims are the very people they supposedly exist to help. How is it advancing the cause of "social and economic justice" by offering tax evasion advice to someone who has openly declared his intention to establish an illegal whorehouse in a residential neighborhood? How does your assistance as an ACORN representative to that individual bring about "stronger, safer and more just communities"? How do you enhance the ability of your organization to obtain "affordable housing and community benefits agreements with local governments, suppliers and contractors" if you choose to risk the "credibility" of your organization with such irresponsible behavior?

The employees in the infamous ACORN video had to be fired. of course, for PR reasons. But rather than emphasizing the degree to which the employees actions departed from the values and overall mission of ACORN, Chief Organizer Bertha Lewis, in her public statement, instead focused almost exclusively on the actions and presumed motivations of the organizations' accusers.

But then, that's what guilty people do.

ACORN has to know it is under intense scrutiny due to its past associations with President Obama. And yet it still gets caught pulling crap like the Baltimore scam.

ACORN uses the poor and people of color like a Vegas illusionist uses colored scarves, drapes and tricked out storage trunks. And the point of both "acts" is to make a buck.

And all it and its apologists want to talk about is the evil of Fox News.

LOL, you've got me confused with AJ. I joined the Army to see the world, AJ joined the Marines because he enjoyed peekin' at naked men in the communal showers.

One big difference. One scandal has real victims the other has made up, pretend victims.

Helping people cheat on their tax returns, yes, that's really American, not to mention, trying to find work for under age children, but wait you're only trying to beat the system.
No sir, nobody gets hurt there.
From a little ACORN, a strong tree grew.

I had the misfortune to work in a place where the owner had FOX News on all day. They found some way to "prove" that ACORN was being paid ARRA monies. It's another form of conspiracy theory, which FOX News is obsessed with. Their theory is absurd. ACORN does not accept any public monies. However, the government does inform people that there are services available through agencies manned by ACORN volunteers. It makes sense; a poor family facing foreclosure cannot afford legal representation. ACORN offers these services in several cities at no cost. They utilize volunteers and they do no accept federal funding. They don't want it. They raise their funding through private donors in private fundraising campaigns.

The problem, as I see it, is that ACORN's voter registration drives have been very successful. It's surprising to me, because ACORN does not seem that sophisticated. I think the Caucasians who speak for the far right are worried. Lower income Americans are not known to be supportive of the conservative agenda. They assume that this will result in a greater voice for the liberal wing of the Democrat Party. This may happen, but not because of ACORN. When one sees the antics of Rep. Wilson or the Teabaggers, it makes sense to move away from these people. Many conservatives believe in respect and civility. They don't want to be associated with Glen Beck when he describes one of his conspiracy theories. The right is rudderless; it lacks any effective spokespersons. It has no energy left. And it continues to shrink into a regional player instead of a national player.

You can kill those ACORN trees pretty quick with a little ENRON fertilizer and Halliburton bottled water, I reckon.

Your spelling is improving.

Fox News is actually accepted as a fair-minded news source by some naive people. Roger Ailes must rolling on the floor laughing when he sees some of the "reporting" by his staff. That's neither here nor there. I think you drew all the wrong conclusions, but you seem to be informed about the subject. Many right-wing posters don't have a clue what ACORN is. They simply respond with talking npoints from FOX or from FreedomWorks so they don't have to do any research. ACORN deserves to be criticized for it's undisciplined voter registration drive in 2008. But that hardly qualifies it to be a target of the right-wing attack dogs.

Again, I apologize for my poor typing. I'm trying to get better. Honest.

There are many faith based and evangelical organizations that are sincere and well-intended. There are others that are merely money making fronts designed to enrich their organizers and staff. There are many community service organizations that strive to combat the very poverty that they themselves operate in on a daily basis. Others exist mainly to profit their organizers and staff in whatever way they might cash in on America's sense of racial and economic guilt.

Setting yourself and your cronies up as a non-profit charitable organization is one of the greatest tax scams going and one of the toughest to expose. In the case of ACORN, various incidents such as the embezzlement of $1 million of the organization's funds by the brother of one of the founders (which wasn't reported to law enforcement agencies or even the organization's board of directors), the voter registration irregularities you mentioned and now the video taped conspiracy to defraud the IRS raises serious questions about the exact nature of ACORN's mission and certainly the manner in which they go about achieving it.

Taken as a whole, these questions easily qualify the organization to be a target of not only the Justice Department, but certainly any news media organization that would have the time and inclination to investigate it.

Why investigate it? It's Bush's fault.

Plus, any calls for investigation would be "racist" by definition.
