Montego didn’t think Kitara’s casting had been observed but thought it wise to let Kitara ask Marianna.
“Don’t worry, my child. Your casting was observed, but I chose not to intervene as you were not doing anything to harm the Temple. Outside of this building, though, some are not so tolerant.”
She smiled benevolently, before breaking some bread, and taking a bite.
“I can sense you are both people of good heart, and intent. It seems such a rarity nowadays. Many people are just out for what they can steal or rob from those weaker than themselves. You have nothing to fear here.”
Montego looked up from his plate.
“Just where is – here? Marianna?”
“You seek Greyhawk, yes?”
Montego nodded in reply, as he had a mouth full of food.
The priestess spoke.
“Tomorrow, you can leave Elmshire, and follow the High Road to Greyhawk City. It is not that far – maybe if you’re lucky, you can ride on the coach which travels the road; but I know not when it will next come. By foot, the journey is perhaps a day and a half, two at most, by coach, a day at most, but that is for tomorrow.”
She then smiled again, fell silent and ate some more.
As she finished her meal, she said:
“Please excuse me, I have duties to attend to before I can close the Temple for the night. Make yourselves comfortable, I shall return as soon as I can. Feel free to feed the fire if you need more warmth.”
She jerked her thumb toward a stack of chords of wood, neatly piled in the corner.
She bowed and left them to their own peace.
