After Judgment Day

The world as we know it is gone, The sickness brought an end to most human life, but the strong and the lucky survived. Now the key of life is to survive the harsh and brutal lands that lay before each of us.

Name: Scott Nightland
Ex-occupation: Marine Commando (Ninja)
Location: New York City
Weapon: Katana , chain

The early light of the coming day pierced the tattered old shed that Scott was using for shelter. It’s suburban location brought a small percentage of safety compared to the bigger city of New York by far, however, Scott was out of supplies and that wasn’t a good thing. For a slightest cut could kill you these days without antibiotics or some kind of germ killing medication. So it was a trip into the big city to supply up and get the hell out for New York was now nothing but a hell’s spawn of crooks, thugs and murderers but it was the only large city that would carry and support life with ample amount of supplies. So without further due he headed into the big city.

Scott made his way into the city his hope was that the local wal-mart that he has been going too was still peaceful and had supplies he would hate to go deeper into the city looking for supplies. Half way to his destination the thing he wish would never happen on these trips happened.

A scream for help….

Mirissa tried not to think much about before. She had been lucky, if you care to call it that, a doctor who was immune. Lucky enough to watch her patients die, one by one and then in droves. Lucky enough to hide, for a while, from the other survivors, the people gone feral faster than the disease could wipe them out. Lucky enough to pack up some supplies and try to get out of the city.

She made slow progress, careful progress, walking quietly close to buildings, scurrying from cover to cover like a mouse. She just need to get out of the concrete jungle. In the world before she'd gone into the wilderness for a break, now it was survival. She could survive in the woods.

Humanity was dead. Mirissa was alive. And that was where her luck ran out.

She heard them coming, their raucous voices telling of drunkeness and brutal energy, and she was just too late. There were five of them, moving like a pack of dogs. They caught sight of her as they came around the corner and their eyes met, her pale green clashing against the leader's bloodshot brown. His smile said too much, she turned and ran, not bothering with stealth. Her boots were made for long hikes, sturdy but heavy, dragging on her feet. Her pack was full of supplies, invaluable medicines, snares and seeds, water purification equipment. No weapons, only tools, a hatchet, a pocketknife, a toolkit.

They caught her within a block, pinning her to a wall. There was no discussion, no negotiation, just their jackal smiles and her quick breathing. She slid her pack off her shoulders, stepping just a bit away from the wall, trying to watch them all at once. The first one that moved toward her she struck in the throat, viper quick and strengthened by adrenaline. He went down choking and the others moved in, no longer smiling.

She didn't get a second shot, her hands were caught in a flurry, roughly dragged behind her back and high up her spine, making her shoulders creak. She didn't start screaming until one of them pulled out a knife and started cutting through her clothes, slitting the front of her shirt, nicking across her stomach leaving a thin line of blood bright against her pale skin.

Why scream for help where there is no one to come? And yet, her voice kept ringing against the empty concrete buildings.
