Alberta cleared for separation referendum.

Is it accurate to conclude from questions 1 through 9 that Alberta voters want more local autonomy and less control from Ottawa?
Yup, exactly.

The nine show the majority Albertans are sick of Ottawa infringing on our autonomy and burdening us with BS like carbon taxes, GST, blocking pipelines, etc. That's why I voted yes to every single one.

The 25% on question 10 represents those like myself who no longer believe negotiation with Ottawa is possible or ever done in good faith.

On October 3, 2026, a Globe and Mail investigation found that political operatives tied to the American Republican Party were assisting the campaign for Alberta to secede. The investigation also found that when Alberta separatist leaders went to Washington, D.C., to meet with representatives of the United States Department of State, they were offered access to fresh water and royalties on crude oil.[15] A few days later, Mitch Sylvestre, chief executive officer of the Alberta Prosperity Project, told the Mail that the office of Foreign Influence Transparency Commissioner Anton Boegman contacted him and his group.[16] The premier of British Columbia, David Eby, called the invitation of foreign interference by the separatist movement "treason" and other Canadian lawmakers called for updating Canadian laws on treason and foreign election interference.[17][18]

Later that month, Researchers from the Centre for Artificial Intelligence, Data, and Conflict at the University of Regina found out that 80 per cent of suspected foreign influence activity had been linked to Russian sources and 20 per cent has been linked to US sources initially.[19] However, researchers noticed that the American share rose to 24 per cent, while the Russian sources dropped to 76 per cent.[19] The report points out that Russian content is covert and can be traced to a pro-Kremlin content farm known as Pravda Network. Meanwhile, US activity is more overt, with prominent American influencers, podcasts and websites promoting Alberta separation on a variety of platforms including YouTube, Reddit, and Rumble.[19] Dr. Brian McQuinn, co-director of the centre, said the narratives targeting Alberta from Russian and American-linked sources have started to mirror each other as the referendum neared.

Here’s the Globe & Mail “investigation.” lol.

The nine are just political chaff. They are all generally popular populist ideas that would get similar results in all provinces. They provide no insight into how the typical Albertan feels about separation.
Q1 through Q5 are more measures of anti-immigrant sentiment than anything.
Q6 through Q9 more directly address the balance of power between provincial and federal governance, and the support here is very lukewarm, with none of them registering 55% or higher. I am actually surprised by how poor the results are for these questions. For the independence movement to have any future in Alberta, these questions would need to be supported by at least 60% of Albertans, probably closer to 65%. Barely making 50% is devastating.

This is probably the most surprising result. Most polls had a floor of around 28%. In a vote where the pro-separatists should be significantly more motivated than the remain voter, to not even clear that floor is pretty damning. I expected the pro separation vote to easily clear 35% and come close to or maybe even break 40%. Garnering support from only a quarter of voting Albertans absolutely dooms any pro-separation movement for at least the next quarter century.

BabyBoozet (a POS GASLIGHTING MAGAt) ignores the FACT that “The Globe & Mail” is a center / right leaning Canadian outlet with a solid reputation for reliable investigations & reporting…

Read the article. Some separatist loonies solicited support from some young Christian Republicans from Michigan and got a software sales pitch. They then went to DC soliciting support from the State Department and got nothing. Even one of their own said the document they brought with them was lunacy.

Honestly, I'm surprised they got as high as nearly 25 per cent

I am not.

As a general rule about 25% of any group is unhappy with the power dynamics of the group and seeks to change the rules so they are the ones with power..

It's, unfortunately, simple human nature and always about power.

I've heard of Quebec nationalism, but never heard before of any Alberta secessionist movement.

It's been there for a long time. It does not get the attention that the Quebec seperatist movement but the province has been frustrated for some time.

Very true. The federalists are very vocal and pissed off about those questions, and being quite nasty about it. As usual.

Meanwhile, the pro Alberta Independence side is quite chipper and positive about where we're at.

Sure, we would have preferred a much more smashing victory, who wouldn't. But change of this magnitude doesn't happen overnight.

But we absolutely far exceeded what all the naysayers kept claiming we could never do. 😎
As I said, I was hoping for a higher Pro turn out so obviously more work is needed. Or possibly some retaliatory action from Ottawa.

But if the US knows that Alberta has no other way of getting their oil out, America is negotiating from a position of serious strength
Which was why so many American special interest groups supporting separation, or are you just figuring that out now

Follow the money. Canadian oil is very heavy and very dirty. The only continental refineries that can handle the stuff in volume are in TX. BUT, those refineries are busily refining similarly heavy, dirty, crude from Venezuela. Crude purchased at VERY low price per bbl, $60/bbl is the reported price. And that is also why no one is talking about the Keystone project any more either, there is NO priority for US corporations to obtain Canadian crude now.
