aloe vera gel safe?

I wouldn't see why not - it's just plant goo, after all.

As long as neither partner has any sort of allergies to it - why not?

honestly, i don't know. my rule for something like that is - when in doubt, don't.

aloe vera from the plant is probably harmless, but i don't think it makes a good lube. it's slippery at first, but it soaks into the skin and dries very quickly.

aloe vera from a bottled lotion, even if it says 100% aloe vera, still has something in it that makes it a lotion, so it's going to have some kind of chemical in it that could react to sensitive skin.

all i have to say is DO NOT use icy-hot anywhere near your genitals.

Ooh, I wanna share my icy-hot story!

I've had shoulder problems for a number of years, and once in a while I'll have my hubby rub icy-hot or similar products on my shoulder and back to relieve some of the muscle tension. One memorable afternoon, he was a little frisky after massaging me. I had him go wash his hands to get the cream off before we did anything. I guess he was a bit distracted and didn't wash his hands as well as he should have - he was rubbing my clit, and after about two minutes I started to experience the most incredible burning sensation. Talk about a mood killer - we had to stop everything so I could go soak in the bath. It took a good hour before the pain subsided. Needless to say, he washes his hands very, very well after touching icy-hot now!

And that, my friends, is why you should never, ever use icy-hot near your genitals.

As for the aloe vera gel - I've found that when I use the stuff, my skin gets sticky shortly after I've applied it. I believe that's the opposite effect you're looking for in a lube. Head to the drugstore. Buy a big tube of KY or Astroglide. Plan in advance. Then you won't need to worry about whether your random household products are safe or not.
