An announcement about my future publishing on Literotica

All this hype about Al is really just marketing campaign for an impending reboot of Married with Children.
No, it's a reboot with a new cast, called Divorced with Tons of Child Support and Maintenance for the Lazy Ex.

Should be a laugh a minute.

Since I just started publishing on this site last year, it gives me pause before my next submissions. I came here to publish knowing my work would live on in mediocrity, but seemed easier than failure on Kindle. I did receive some positive feedback, and a few of my stories went further than I expected. Which made me want to be better. Now, for the novice question, if not here, then where can my work live on in obscurity? For if but one person finds my work enjoyable, than I’ll feel that I did something with my life.

Here is fine. I think the complaints are from people who have written a lot and have maybe outgrown this site.

Don't let it give you pause. Publish and enjoy the ride!!

I was in the same place. But since I started here, I've completed three novel-length books and about a dozen novella-length works. My -- dissatisfaction is maybe a good word -- is that I am now publishing my work for sale and have found that I can actually do that. I also have entered contests on this site and my work ends up getting kind of trashed... until the contest is over. Then my ratings suddenly shoot back up. On other sites, I am winning different writing contests and even having stories voted into the "Hall of Fame" on certain writing sites.

This site is great and it's where I got my start (and I am in NO WAY a bigwig author!!), but the issue for me is that this site was great to get me started.

Does all that make sense (without me sounding like an egomaniac)?

But publish and enjoy!!!!

Literotica is a big fish, but the sea is even bigger. I’ve never entered a comp except here, but some nameless reader nominated one of my Lit comp entries (that had the same trajectory you describe) in a non-Lit one and I placed second. I didn’t even know until some weeks after.

Comps are a crap shoot here. A measure of how few people hate you as opposed to how many love your work.

I might join you in the world of publishing at some point in 2026. Probably with just one work though.

Literotica has been where I learned to write, but there are limits to what you can do here artistically (and I don’t mean the 18+ rule FFS).

I only post here and on one other site. I still haven't found another that I like. I barely get any views or comments on the other site. You know, the one where you can post your stories online. So, the reader engagement here is important to me.

If anyone would be so kind as to DM me any other sites besides the one you can post your stories online with, I would be eternally grateful.

On another note, after waiting 2.5 months, my work was finally published. Onto the next chapter!

Two and a half months?

I hope you find what I sent helpful. Here is the best site to get reads, votes, and feedback. Though even here, votes and feedback are hard to come by.

IDK if this is obvious to everyone but just checking my own comprehension. The basic issue is that AI bots are producing huge amounts of spam stories and the site hasn't figured out a way to get them out of the queue to make way for human authors?

If so, I wonder what the AI bot users' motivation is. Is there some way to make money writing here that I'm unaware of? Please do tell!

Also, assuming I understand the problem correctly, I wonder if the solution would be just to turn everything to the readers? I.e. if an AI bot can write a good enough story for readers, well, good for the readers. I feel I can still win this competition, at least among sufficiently insightful readers, but if I can't, I'm only here for fun anyway.

To be clear, in case it hasn't been clear, I really don't know what I'm talking about. Just trying to understand the frustration.

The FAQ refers to ethical concerns about the use of AI and the potential copyright issues. Personally I applaud Laurel and Manu (may they live forever) for taking such a firm stance.

If bots are uploading story’s that’s a fault of the site for not having a simple CAPTCHA style verification check on upload.

That might enquire investment though

And will companies like CAPTCHA work with adult content sites?

I hadn't read that before. It sounds like they're keeping their options open.

FWIW, if AI spam is indeed the problem, at least we know it's a civilization-wide problem, not a Literotica problem.

Also, it has been nice being a human and having relationships with other humans. Don't know if I'd want to be young right now.

Not "huge amounts," no.

But I think Laurel's worry is that AI will make it easier for a mediocre writer to churn out more mediocre stories, faster. Meaning, she's not thinking there are bot farms spewing out shitty stories for no money; she's concerned that there might be people who really do want to post here but doubt their abilities.

And instead of putting in the time and learning the craft, they'll be tempted to take shortcuts if those are available. The result, in her mind, would be a lesser product, qualitatively, even while it rises in quantity.

I respect Laurel. She and I have always had great relations on the VERY few occasions I've needed her. I, like her, am paranoid about the impact of AI on creativity, and I'm also concerned that it's making us dumber overall. I do think she's a little naive, though, in that scads of legit stories have always been written by writers who use things like Grammarly. They are nonplussed that their usual working methods are now being affected.

I think that's the state of play, as I understand it.
