An anti-complaint about the time taken to post a story

My stories turn around super-fast (I think one actually got published the next day). The exception is my illustrated story, and what an exception: MONTHS before it finally got posted. But that was clearly a technical issue.

I've had as little as 24 hours and as much as two weeks. It seems to be kind of all over the map. At first, I was afraid something went wrong, but quickly leaned that I just needed to be patient. 😫😉

Longest I've ever waited on any of my eleven stories was 3 whole days, but my last two went through in 36 hours each.

Maybe just completely coincidental, but I have found that if I submit stories at around 8pm UK time (2pm or 3pm US?) the story gets approved faster, usually.

That's unusually long. Check that you've actually submitted it (Pending, not Draft). If it's illustrated, that could explain such a delay.

If it's routine, 17 days is unusual. I'd PM Laurel, asking if it's fallen between the cracks.
It just got published a few hours ago.

I've published 2 stories, and the first one I had to make corrections and resubmit. The first two took about 3-4 days and the resubmit took about 5-6 days. It's been a few months, so I'm not positive on the time frame. But I'm not going to complain; this is a free site, after all. Kinda like with my editor; she is doing it for free. So I'm not going to complain if real life interferes and she can't get to my story as fast as I would like. I'll take it when she gets it to me and thank her very much for her efforts. I just work on my next story while she is editing. I have no deadlines, this is all just for fun, for me anyway. I'm not taking it too seriously. I want to put out a good story but I'm not stressing over it. :)

If you copy and paste into the box 2-3 days.
Upload docx 2-3 weeks 😜

AH often has threads bemoaning how long it takes to get stories published after submission. I just had a 22k word story (not long by some standards, but long enough) turned round in around 36 hours. I think that’s pretty darned good and it’s not a one-off, most of my stuff gets published within 48 hours.

Now maybe I’m not pushing against age or violence barriers. Maybe I get credit for having been a good girl in these areas of late. Maybe I’ve got a track record of mostly harmless sex romps.

It does seem to me that most threads complaining about publishing delays feature stories that are doing at least one of the following;
  1. Flying close to the wind with some prohibited subject matter
  2. A first or second submission, which tends to draw additional scrutiny
  3. Containing a, probably innocent, trigger word or phrase (his skin was as smooth as a baby’s bottom)
  4. Nit spulled vry will
  5. Just overlooked for some reason (like the tsunami of submissions poor @Laurel has to deal with each day)
Do others have as smooth an experience as I do, or am I just teacher’s pet who writes anodyne inoffensive stuff?

Laurel does her best to get stories published as fast as she can.

It DOES take longer when there is a "contest" going on, though those of us who've been here long enough understand.
Which is why I proposed not just cutting the number of them, but having them put in a completely separate area, instead of polluting the "new" section.

I have a "smooth experience" as well, for the most part, when it comes to publishing.

Of course, my love (non-sexual, you weirdos) for Laurel helping me out so quickly when it comes to anything, is far from secret.:LOL::LOL:

My record for a story going live was about 2.5 hours. Laurel must have been working late and approved the story just before the midnight publishing time.

I try not to get antsy before 36 hours is up. I'm not very good at that.

Familiarity breeds dispatch. You've published prolifically over a short period of time, so my guess is they know you by now and say, "Oh, it's her again", and they give you a quick run through and approval.

When I started, I published less frequently than you do, and for a while, it would usually take 4-5 days to get approved. Now it's usually 2-3. I've had a few stories that push a bit against content boundaries. Sometimes it takes a bit longer.

This is my experience too, and I'm not a very frequent contributor. My first couple stories took a close to a week, the last few just a couple days. My most recent one I sent in late on a Friday night and Monday Morning it was live.

Selfishly, I'd like to think that they see my name and recognize that the story will be safe to go forward with. I would imagine it is probably something done via computer program that flags author names and bumps them on the list accordingly based on prior rejections and the like.

I see all the complaint threads too. It seems like half are new writers and the other half are pushing the boundary, usually of the age restriction.

I have certainly whined here about stories taking a long time to get published, but that's usually because I fear they have been caught in some kind of "glitch" in the submission system. Sometimes reposting the story from a new story form with a different title seems to have succeeded in getting it published. When you've spent a lot of time on a story, it can be frustrating to see it in "pending", perhaps indefinitely.
