So while I had a general idea of what the facility/housing units are going to look like, I never actually had a solid location for them, so let me get your guys thoughts on this:

Idea 1:

It's partly underground. I'm thinking the MAAMS built this place in the crater of either an old volcano that exploded, or an actual crater site where a meteor fell. They would have dropped a pretty dime into building a type of dome over the top and then planting trees over said dome, as to keep it hidden from any prying eyes from above.

Idea 2:

It's high up. Like, -way- high up. Maybe the tops of trees in a jungle type section, because, no one ever thinks to look above the trees. Neat idea, but I'm not particular fond of this one.

Idea 3:

My personal favorite, and the one I'm really leaning towards if you guys like the idea too-underground, but in the buried ruins of a city. I'm not sure if either of you have heard of it, but you probably have, where sometimes construction crews will come across whole cities that got buried beneath the earth, or where cities are built on top of other cities.

I think this would both fit the theme of the thread, while also keeping away a lot of people because monsters show up the most in these types of settings. Even if a few homeless people wander in from time to time, they wouldn't survive long because it's so easy for monsters to pick them off down there. I could also see this leading to some great story scenes/game rounds, where the facility needs to 'expand', and sends out some elites to do some pest control. It could be super eery and creepy.

That's not much at all, actually, and just the type of 'implied' horror and grimdark I did the last time I had this rp running. Of course, back then, it wasn't sexualized at all, and the gory stuff had to be tactfully written for a, at best, pg13 site but yea, that line of thought with the monster is spot on. It's meant to be horror-like Hell Raiser/Nightmare on Elm Street style.

I like all of those ideas. I feel like you kind of have two categories of ideas:

1. It's a fortress secured against the monsters
2. It's a fortress secured against [/i]people[/i], and the MAAMS aren't worried about monsters in their base at all.

I kind of like the second idea, but either way it says something about the organization. If they've set themselves up in the heart of monster country, why?
Are they altruistic? Kind of a Night's Watch, first line of defense kinda thing?
Or are they pragmatic? If we're the only ones who can fight these monsters, living in an area infested with them will keep us safe from others.
Of course, if they're not afraid of people or monsters, then why not have an Avengers Tower in the middle of some ruined city?

That said, I do really like the Meteorite Dome idea. It could almost be like a city in the Underdark from D&D.

As far as the base idea goes... I'm in agreement that the tree one wouldn't be ideal simply because it puts them in a vulnerable position for any inclement weather, among other things.

So Secret Dome or Underground City...

I kind of like the idea of the underground city in a way. Like it's definitely good for keeping people out, but it's also going to be good for keeping people in too. Like if someone is fed up with shit, they can't just storm off for fear of being ripped apart. It gives them time to calm down and think about shit. I also think it would be great for rescue practice. Like some rando wanders in, so they send some of the more experienced trainees to try to save the person. It makes it have stakes in a way which might motivate some to do better than they otherwise would have.

I think it depends on how much they're funded too. If it's not a bunch, then the Underground City makes more sense to me since they would simply have to build and fortify upon the already-created tunnels and city.

As for the Dome, I really like that one too. >o< If they're funded more, I think that would kind of be cooler. It would give them more visibility and would probably help with requests and stuff. After all, if their headquarters is obvious, they'll get a lot more pleas for help since the messengers can actually get to them. In the case of that base, they would be a lot safer too. I imagine it would be really difficult for monsters to attack, even the ones that are adept at digging (since you know there's gotta be some creepy fucks that come up from underground sometimes). All in all, I think the dome would me more conducive to training and being a good front for an organization.

What if we did both? There are supposed to be a few facilities, after all. It wouldn't be too out of line to say that both the dome and the underground are places, and maybe the dome (being more funded and protected) is their main base of operations, while the underground is them trying to expand and clear the infestation, while also providing a training opportunity? >.>
