An Old Horror Brought To Life (OOC-closed)

XD

Oh, on that note, since the MAAMS is such a large organization, it's totally plausible for your guys characters to also know someone who might have got recruited as well. Perhaps in a fresh new batch, or some years ago. Whether or not you want them to pop up right away, or even at all, it totally up to you guys.

Roth has one friend there, but I'm toying with introducing another later down the road, but probably just as a side character. He got to know a lot of peeps during his years on the street, and working with so many other kids, so it would be almost weird for him not to know at least a few people there.

Hmm. Well then I'll have to think about whether she's going to have anybody in the organization. Maybe one of her brother's friends or something. *strokes beard of wisdom* I shall have to ruminate on it.

Hmmm, possible connections and magical imagination abilities? Lots to think about! And that’s on top of Daven’s futile efforts to crack Roth like an egg...

>.>

Heh, heeey there Daven. Fancy meeting you here in this dark corner...where no one can see us...

XD

Watch out Daven, he's kept a knife wrapped up and hidden in his prison pocket! D:

Heheh XD

Aaaalright. I need to do something to refresh my brain meets. I'ma go look for a lovely adventure in the woods

You do that. Breathe in that fresh woodland air, let it invigorate your mind and booty. In fact, you could probably take some kind of cold, refreshing beverage with you so you can just enjoy sitting in nature for a while as you drink. :D

Mm, it was a short nature trip unfortunately, as I forgot my water at home ;_;

Nonetheless, it was quite refreshing :D

You could always grab your water bottle and go back out there. :D Still, it’s good that you got some fresh air.

NO! D< I have...things to write! Dx

Maybe. Probably slow write. My brain feels all muddled.

Up to you. :D You know what they say: slow and steady with a few teaspoons of sugar every now and then will give you egg whites with stiff peaks. You just gotta give it time.

Ooh, is somebody making a meringue???

GUYS, SHE’S MAKING A MERINGUE!!!!!

So, about these mental imagination-based powers....do they work on things other than the monsters? And should our people already have some of these abilities?

Not quite yet, but soon! I really want to try making those super fluffy cheesecakes. It'll be fucking great! I'm not sure if that's stiff peaks though... Might be soft peaks.

I'm actually curious about that too. Like I think it would be interesting and fitting if their powers only worked at night or in the dark. I would imagine that their powers can affect other people, but can't hurt them.

Ooooh, I’ve been wanting to try one of those cheesecakes for a while! They look so good!

They do work on things besides the monsters, as indicated with physical things being broken. (trees being knocked down/ripped up, car windows breaking, etc). In the old RP, this was still true, except that the only difference would be was this sort of Toy Story effect, where whenever an adult came into view of what was happening, or just close enough to be able to hear the fighting, it would magically stop and all the adult would see would be a group of kids seemingly playing. Obviously that's not going to work here, as we need most of the humans in this world to be of age for this site, but the same concept kind of applies still-physical things can be broken and affected, and now that includes other people as well.

I do wonder, though, if it should be a common occurrence...or only the strongest of monsters can attack adults. Because the reason before, was that the monsters feed off of childrens fear. (and in a lot of cases, actual body parts as well >_>), and adults were way too hard to feed from, and/or fight, so they didn't bother. Actually, for lore purposes of the old rp, the monsters actually put a kind of biological timer in the human populaces DNA, like a parasite, to destroy the part of the brain that allowed adults to see them, thus ensuring they had less competition. The children that could still see the monsters after turning thirteen, were the one's that kind of 'survived' the little biological time bomb, and grew that part of their brain back.

>And should our people already have some of these abilities?

All kids (and the special adults) have at least some ability, because it's what allows them to see the monsters in the first place. Now whether or not the child can actually harness that part of their brain, and use it like a muscle, just is up to the individual. That's why they are categorized by the MAAMS, and some of them given special weapons to help them be able to fight.

Not every kid will have a lot of mental power, but may have learned to become really good tactically, and using the environment around them. Roth actually started off this way and has only recently been able to flex that mental control. Before, he would just use basic weapons and have to force himself to enhance those weapons in a pinch, to make them more powerful.

I'm actually curious about that too. Like I think it would be interesting and fitting if their powers only worked at night or in the dark. I would imagine that their powers can affect other people, but can't hurt them.

Mm, the monsters themselves are kind of bound by the night rule, but the children are not. Them being humans kind of put them above the monsters automatically, because our brains are literally what set us apart from other animals. And in all honesty, you'll want this in the actual RP, because even though they'll be expected to get a good chunk of solid 7-9 hours of sleep during the day, they'll still be up a few hours after sunrise (if they are 'day owls', heh), and a few hours before sunset, so they'll be able to train during those hours and do normal life things.

As far as their powers effecting other people, it definitely can, but year you're right, it won't hurt them. It's kind of like friendly fire in a game. Seeing as the intended target is a monster, if it does hit a person, it won't affect the person in the same way. So to give you an example:

A little girl is trying to throw a giant ball of gooey, glue liquid at a monsters feet, to stick it to the ground. She misses, and instead hits her sister/partner/fighting comrade. Instead of the substance acting like glue to that person she hit, that person will feel like they just had a giant snot ball dropped on them :D

...

I never got to explore it in the old RP, but I suppose if someone was really angry enough, strong enough, and putting enough focus on what they were doing, they could attack a comrade with a mental weapon. I imagine they would have to be fucking P I S S E D though, for it to cause any real damage >_>

Like shoving your friend in the heat of an argument <_<

@Nouh: Right?! They're just so fucking jiggly and light! :D

@Drobabes:

So if I'm understanding right, the parasite basically killed/ate the part of the brain that would have allowed the adult to process what was happening. Since they literally can't process what they're seeing, their brain (being the magnificent organ that it is) has them see something else in order to keep them sane.

What if that same parasite keeps them from producing some kind of chemical/vitamin that the monsters like/need too? In that case, I could see most monsters not attacking adults. The only adults killed would be the ones caught in the crossfire or caught in a rampage, and the ones killed by the scarier nightmares that are more intelligent and use them for different things. Not married to that explanation, but it could work.

I think Crystal is going to be completely mental.

Hmm... Okay, I'm picking up what you're putting down about day/night and powers and such. Sounds good to me. :D

Okay, so if it’s an ability that isn’t strictly a mental attack, it would also have a much weaker, usually negligible, effect on humans?

Like, I’m thinking about what Daven could be able to do (not yet—he’ll be frustrated about not having an ability until his is dramatically revealed in a moment of trauma), and my mind was drawn to something like the Voice of the Emperor ability from the Elder Scrolls games. Like, he would scream and the monsters would stop trying to fight for a few moments. So, maybe as he practices the time they spend meh-ing would lengthen, but on humans it would mostly never work but maybe in super-extreme situations he could get a fraction of a second.

Would that fit with the lore?

Oh shit, you know what. That would actually work really well with my character's ability. I'm going to have her essentially encase herself in a metal suit (like iron man but clunkier like a mini robot kinda). She sits in it and it has a variety of attacks like shooting beams of energy. It's not super fast though. Strong, but not fast. If your character was able to stun something that's too fast for her, she could fuck it up.

I didn't play elder scrolls, does it like stun them? If that's the case, I mean it's probably not out of the realm of possibility. Maybe the really top elites, the ones that end up, being, heh,

That can use their mental abilities on other people. And depending on how strong that other person was, it can effect them more or less.

Oh shit! Now I'm thinking that like, one of the really strong monsters, what the kids used to call a swirly, could possibly body snatch someone and use that as a weapon :devil:

Maybe even using it's monster powers to enhance it :devil:

@Poprockz

That’s funny you mention that, because I was kinda thinking that a monster that’s super durable would be a good foil for him. Like, as he develops his ability and starts slicing and dicing monsters, he gets cocky, and then he runs into some thicc rock-troll thing that just will NOT fucking go down, but he keeps trying until he’s exhausted and hoarse and has to ask for help (which is devastating for him)

Edit:

@Drobabes

The way it works in that game is it “pacifies” them (they basically wander around non-hostile) for like 30 seconds, but it could stun them or freeze them or whatever makes sense. Ooh, I like the swirly idea...

Huh. Well that's kinda cool, and he can probably find others to train with. Like, there will be kids that can do some siren shit, where they sing and piper the monsters into a daze, maybe leading them to walk into a trap :D

Also, remember guys, you can start off pretty strong if you want. In this world, they would have started seeing and interacting with monsters when they were like 4/5 years old, so it's not a huge stretch to say that they have had years of practice to home skills, or a particular skill. All up to you, but I want it to be clear that as long as it fits within the lore, don't worry too much about holding them back. That's the power of imaaaaginatiooon~ :D

Oh shit. <o< The swirly sounds like a real evil mastermind monster. Do monsters hold grudges?

They'll be all like, get outta that body! The power of magic compels you!

@Nouh: Those thicc trolls, sometimes you just gotta get help. When your foe can crush your head between its thighs, that's when you know you need backup. :D I look forward to him reluctantly asking for help.

@Drobabes: Oooo, that pied piper sit sounds cool. :D

Oh? Well then I'll make her as OP as I please (within limits).
