You should definitely pick up a tube o' lube and give it a try. I highly recommend Astroglide myself (it's water-based and generally safer and easier to clean up afterwards than petroleum-based lubes like KY). Personally, I can't handle anal without lube. I'm not sure where you read that, but in my experience, it's wrong. KY washes away very easily with a little water. You may be thinking of Vaseline.

As for lubes, I can't stand Astroglide. It feels gritty to me, is uncomfortable to use, and isn't lubricating at all. But then, everyone is different. To each there own!

Glycerin is a main component found in soap which softens water and prevents things from sticking (that's how soap works), so clean up shouldn't be an issue.
I like anal either way. with the shop lubes sometimes it gets too slick. I like a little friction. Conversely, if relying on pussy juice, once it drys up, there's no double dipping and the friction burn can be terrible. Better have a lot of spit.

KY is fine, lubrication wise it definitely does the job, but it does take a bit longer to apply, and it has a thicker/stickier texture. (I think they were worried about speed!) It is certainly more economical though.
