Anime Mecha RP

Like I said I will try to get a working story some world info and mecha info going here soon, got some things to take care of this week so I will try to do it when I have some time.

I finally managed to get a workin coppy of X-com not to long ago, so that is off my to do list now. Although sadly my computer didn't like researching aliens.

Suposedly a common set up is Humans have metal mechs and aliens have organic mechs. (Once more acording to GURPS.)

Cats that could be interesting....though I always loved Marcross or Robotech type Aliens...they were huge. Could be a lot of fun.

I thought about an X-COM thread that interest you at all? I won the game on super human leverl....and had plenty of ideas for improvements. Plenty of information on wikipedia btw.

Oh man, would I LOVE to play in an X-Com thread!

Even a Jagged Alliance thread would be fun!

But I would prefer an X-Com thread.

Cats, does GURPS really say that about mechs? Humans get metal ones and aliens get organic ones?

It's in there some where, I am going off of memory. Also keep in mind GURPS is set up for one to do what they want so it is simply a suggestion. But essently the aliens supior technology allows them to make living and thus self repairing mechs. They called it an animie trend, but other the independence day I don't know where they got it.

GURPS has a lot of setting easy to make a mistake...Palladium had Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Marcross....you could do a lot and well still can in the Megaverse.

Yes Jagged Alliance~S~ I am a bit of a fan. WildFire with all of its bugs made what should have been a good "remake" a lousy game and a painful experience.

Yes X-COM could be a fun thread. I remember doing the UFO research up to the point I could build my own ships...cool right? you need that to win the game after all. But Even though you new how a UFO worked if you captured an Alien craft intact you had to rip it apart....

That felt so wrong especially when I captured a Battleship (did that a few times) fully operational...killed off the secltiod (grey) crew and I had to take it apart. Damn! could have brough 100 troops to MARS! Or Alien surgery you find out how it works and well they healing time of your troops stays the same. And Alien Alloys...could only make body armor out of them...not new more powerful ammo for your pistols and rifles (could have kept them useful longer) and no armoring the jets and transports.

Don't get me wrong I loved the game but there were a million things that could have been done better....that is why I love LIT. We can fill in the gaps of great ideas.

You see I have no complaints abot any of those things, its a game and holes in the plot like that are fine by me. What gets me steamed is the release version of temple of elemental evil had a bug that prevented opening tresure chests and looting bodies. That just isn't acceptable.

You know Jagged, I felt much the same way, Its like, you spent the time studying how those things worked at base and then were disallowed use of them on missions. It was a crock. But still, I have always loved that style of game, tactics I suppose you could call them. I wish someone out there would make a game with x-coms feel nowadays. Not so much on the eyecandy, though it would be nice, but man, the things they could do with a game like that nowdays. If they would just not concern themselves so much with 3d graphics and such, and just put effort in game play and inovative concepts in the game...

I vote for an X-com thread.

(Can I play an alien? LOL!)

I might just do it....after all there is plenty of information out there...and my Mars attack thread went pretty well. I think I would take command players would be squad leaders.

First off sorry I haven't had time to do anything with this yet >< things in RL got busy out of nowhere and so yeah ><
Sorry but I should get some free time soon ; ;

Well, in terms of tatics, the same agame above, Temple of Elemenal Evil, once properly patched makes a resonable tatics game. Sadly of all the DnD computer games I have played it has the right rules and most freedom. But no prestiege classes and it caps at level ten but a good dungeon crawl if your just killing things and a resonable set of evil backstabing evil quests if want to make friends in the dungeon. But still there are way to many bugs in that game until it is patched and in terms of looting, there is no excuse for that bug.

Other tatic games I can think of are probably ghost recon, and mech commander. Both of those are real time which I prefer not to have in tatic games.

SO it seems I have just plan bad luck...
Finished the RL things for the most part but got some type of Strep Throat or something so....
But yeah I've working on the whole idea of Aliens attacking earth and it's up to the players to stop them.
Haven't worked out any type of tech yet though.
Though would it be more fun if the aliens are more powerful then us? or should the aliens try to take over and we are high enough on the galatic tech tree to put up a nice fight from the get go?

How about the humans are so wimpy that the aliens are using Earth for practice, sending students/raw recruits here to cut their teeth on us? ;)

I like that idea, it means the humans can fight back via better pilots, and hold them off until humans understand their tehology... better.

I like that idea as well, I can play a green alien. Get it, green as in untested, but it could also mean I have green skin! ...Okay, leaving now. LOL

Space invaders could be fun to fight off....perhaps combine settings.

Sword&MAgic setting gets invaded by aliens...maybe there tech is like steam punk but still way more advanced. Could be very cool.

Way to go Jagged, space invaders. Because of you all the aliens can do in my head is drop one level reverse direction and increase speed.

Space Invaders?:

well we have the basic plot for the moment, details will be worked out I'm sure, but for now how about tech level?

So lets set the humans up first.

Basic mechs, something like the basic Gundam or grunt mechs in most anime, basic, can be used in multible rolls(by grabbing different weapons or be beying given add on parts)

Semi high tech, basic Robotech/Macross mechs, Jet fighters that can transforum into basic mecha.

Or do we go as high as say the Mech Warrior/Battletech level full blown war machines that are untested for the most part =D

---------------------------------------------------------

Then we have are invading friends from who knows where =D(Be they little green men, UFOs that act as a wall that like to bomb planets by going back and forth picking up speed as they go, of super hot alien women hell bent on taking over mankind and it's planet full of raw materials)

Basic high level Mech, Armor that can take a lot more then the solid rounds most earth mechs will be using to start.

Bio mecha, with the ability to think on their own(not always a good thing) and have the ability to recover given time.

Ultra high level tech with shielding and large laser cannons that don't over heat like they should when used planet side(Death rays if you like as well =D)

Stupid powerful.
All of the above packed into a mech the size of a semi truck with enough speed to dodge almost all attacks at will.

Anything more then I'd have to make it a SRP XD

I want to be a mecha (or organic/magical version thereof), so let me know which side has sentient ones or if both sides do. :)

Edit: oh you posted at the same time as me lol. Can we have one side have non-mechanical 'mechs' please?

Well humans don't get that type of mecha XD
Far to high tech for the human race to have at the moment.
Best things they will get are mechs made for war like Mad cats and other mechs at the top levels
But we'll see what happens =D

How would a magic or shapeshifter-race 'mecha' be 'high tech'? lol But I guess I'll be an alien one then?

Magic I am not so sure about, as for shapeshifters... Not sure how that one would work out either, gives a bit to much to the aliens, I mean it could go from mecha to battleship and or some type of death star weapon if the user or shapeshifter so wished, damage would be a problem as well.
And no I don't plan to use a D&D damage table for this, to much work, and so it will be just down to the posts for the most part.
Now AI units is another story, but even if so, AI units are limited to RPing in battle, you don't tend to see war machines going shopping or walking around town as a rule.
The other problem I've had running RPs, is when it come down to it with out some fourm of damage system players will get into flame wars on who won what fights. Which is why I'd rather have all players on the same side, but it seems you all want to take it to each other or something.
But yeah things still need to be worked out, but we're getting somewhere at any rate ^^

Why not mix and match tech levels a bit. Say most of earth ha the grunt mechs, (I am thinking leo and Zuku here,) and their are a few prototypes of the robotech jet to humanoid robot machines around. This would give us a dynamic sort of feel, most machines would have traditional ballistics weapons so they can't do much except annoy the enemy. The PC's then have the prototype mechs with experimental particle and laser weapons so they can actually fight back. Thus the PCs form a unit that does the most dangerous assignments and so forth.

This also means each player could have a custom machine. Access to alien tech as it comes around. Maybe salvage rights, although probably not complete salvage rights. A little bit more spending money then the average soldier and priority over them when ordering replacement parts.

Yeah could go mixed tech.
Also don't forget, swords and melee weapons(which mecha offen have) can be used on aliens as well.
About the only time a melee weapon won't work is against shields =\
But yeah Sharp weapons can still do some damage, and swinging around a 10+ ton blade is going to hurt regaurdless of hot tough your armor is... Unless it's like super armor made inside the core of a star and is ment to take hits from much bigger things(Also would be a pain in the butt to refine meaning not many if any units outside of bosses would even come close to having armor like this)
Hey even aliens need to buy and biuld their mecha =D
