Is there a common understanding of what they mean when worn on certain sides (L or R)?

I wear a silver one on my right ankle. Because I always have.

Apparently, your right ear is the "gay" ear, and gay men get and ear peircing in that one. I have a earring thought the cartlige in my right ear, so I must be gay!

Methinks it doesn't really mean anything!

Same with the handkerchiefs colourcode-thing at one point. I can imagine certain scenes having claimed items to signal things. Which made non-gay (or non-bi) men very aware not to put a white handkerchief in the pocket of their trousers at one point. That was a long time ago though, and you never hear anything about this anymore, except maybe still in the gay-scene...

Same with the bracelets I suppose, although this particular one seems to be designed especially for the purpose of signaling something here. That does not mean, as far as I know, that all other ones worn in whatever way mean something.

There is a freakish subculture, confined largely to the Internet, that thinks this denotes a married woman who is a slut for big dicks. I'm not sure which ankle though.

what about guys wearing one on right ankle ?
Do a lot of men wear anklets? I've yet to see one, and it'd strike me as very odd if I ever did. I'm thinking most straight and masculine men in our culture would want to stay away from anklets altogether.

Now way SweetErika, I've seen sunny/surfery type guys with those rope and shell type anklets. Looks good too, but a good surfer body would be a tough thing to spoil :D

A word to the wise, if you are a guy who wears an anklet and you are arrested, for instance on a DWI offense, remove it before they throw you into lock-up.. unless, of course, gang-bangs are your thing.

During the summer I always wear a hemp or friendship anklet on my left ankle.

It means "I made this at camp, and therefore I'm wearing it." :D

It's part of the BDSM culture, means something like 'I belong to Master....'.

Ankle bracelet

I heard once that wearing an ankle bracelet means that you're a lesbian... That being said, I know many heterosexual women who wear one. I figure it's just one more urban legend...

10 & 1/2 inches? that is bigger than my neck!

If this is true, you must look like a lollipop. I think that if you take an actual measurement of the circumference of your neck, that you will find that it exceeds 10½ ".

I wear a gold one on my right ankle most of the time... mostly just because I do - and that is where it is more comfortable for me.

well, I saw on TV, about how gay men would, at certain get-togethers, wear some kind of armband on their left, right or both arm. This would inform whoever that they do oral or anal or both, depending on the side worn. (I'm sure someone on the board will be able to confirm or deny this).

Maybe your ankle braclet is something similar?

i just ordered one with a heart shaped lock.. its a symbol of my submission as part of my BDSM relationship

I am your average masculine appearing guy, although my secret desires would certainly contradict that of course, but I am not one to go with the norm by any means
