Another glitch? Comments not showing?

I encountered one recently when I deleted a comment from my latest story (the comment was incoherent gibberish, so not helpful). When I went back to the Latest Activity tab, the message which used to read "Anonymous user has commented on your story" now reads "Someone has commented on your deleted work".

My work has most definitely NOT been deleted, so I'm guessing the backend programmers inserted the wrong text into the code, but it's still kind of alarming to see this message even though I know it actually means the comment has been deleted.

On the other side of things I left a comment this morning that was visible right away.

You're probably on the whitelist, but most commenters aren't so lucky.

Yes, I've seen this a lot recently. I've also noticed a greater number of times when changing between oldest and newest first changes how recent of comments show.

Well, my own comment appeared within 12 hours, but I can't see the other comments on the story, not even the ones I saw there earlier...

Edit: However, there are no comments under the story, not even my own, which can be seen in My Comments.

And since then, not a single comment has been visible. How many people look back at a commented story several days later to see what comments have been posted? This completely kills the essence of commenting. Why would anyone write a review if it only appears many days later? This is even worse than before.

This morning the five missing comments now show on the story.

It took six days for the oldest to show up which is ridiculous but also not surprising at this point.

Lit gives me the visual of an old Disney (or maybe it was Looney Tunes) cartoon I remember of a dam springing a ton of leaks and the cartoon character running around sticking their fingers and toes in them. Plugs one, three more appear.

The comments I mentioned in my original post still haven’t appeared on the story, they’re about five days old now. I did receive one negative comment the other day from someone who clearly hadn’t read the piece properly, so I’m not too concerned about that one taking its time!

Interestingly, a fellow author left a comment yesterday on one of my older stories. He’s been on the site for years and is well established, so if anyone might be whitelisted you’d assume it would be him, but even his comment hasn’t shown up yet. So it does seem to be affecting everyone.

That said, as I mentioned before, I’d much rather have a delay in comments than in publishing.

I submitted one yesterday and it also appeared today, though a couple of hours later than the first - surprisingly quick. Now here's the thing: I submitted one this morning and it appeared within at most two hours - moderated, not instant, but it torpedoes the idea that there's some simple, general backlog of comments.

Did it appear on "All Comments" of the story too or only on the specific URL of your comment and in "My Comments"?

The problem is that I think only we can see our own comment, while the author and other commenters still cannot see them.

Logged out, I go to the story. There are no comments under it, but a link to All Comments (1), which still shows no comments until I choose newest first - then my comment is visible. So if I can see that logged out, presumably everyone including the author can.
