Arcane

Lalita was surprised the man noticed her staring. She hesitated then finally sat down in the seat he offered. She still did no remove her hood but she was pleased when he did. He was quite good looking and she was surprised at her reaction. It wasn't like her to care, it wasn't that she was celibate and didn't notice the male species it was just she usually didn't care. She studied him for a moment then as if deciding something she nodded "My name is Lalita, and you are?"

Contra poured another cup of tea, giving it to the new woman, he motioned for he to sit. She had the look of experience on her, but still not of complete evil. Unlike her surroundings, there was a glint of good and wholesomeness to her.
Both of them, actually. The ranger himself wasn't psychic, but he could usually determine after a few glimpses who is out to steal his gold or watch his back.
"Sirroco, please sit," he passed her the cup, "Lalita. It's a pleasure to meet you both. My name is Contra. You have guessed correctly, we have all been called here together. For what? I'm not quite certain yet, although," he gave the tavern a hard stare, "In this kind of place, I don't doubt we'll have to wait long."
His smile was warm, but stern. It stretched across his stubbled face, like the look of a determined soul. It was nice, but nothing more than formal.
"Well, since we are going to be spending some time together, I suggest we get to know each other just a tad. Something more than just names.... as you've guessed I'm a ranger. Nothing extraordinary, I listen to the forest. Other than a few healing spells, I know no magic, my weapons are my sword, and my familiar. If we ever leave this town, I'll introduce him to you, he loves meeting new people."
He finished the last of his cup, getting a second, "Lalita? You don't seem to want to interact much..."
It was a statement, but he wanted her to continue. Something about the way she kept her cloak so tightly around her face seemed to get to him.

After being turned down by Sirroco, Korr downed both one of the beers and held the other, intent on swallowing it as well. At that moment he heard a commotion outside. He followed the crowd and watched as Jake decapitated the bounty hunter, Korr always enjoyed watching a good fight but Jake's statement, "Some people just lose their heads over stupid things," confused him.

"Why would he lose his head...hmmm" Korr scratched his head as the crowd moved back inside the bar, following the badly beaten Jake. Korr slowly moved into the bar when the bounty hunter's head caught his eye, now he understood. "Oh....HA HA HA HA..." Korr bursted out in laughter. He walked back inside the bar and saw Jake slumped in the corner. He approached the man cackaling away, "That....ha ha ha...that was a good one..." Korr noticed that Jake wasn't laughing, "You look hurt. Are you hurt? Korr know how to stop hurting." Korr slammed the full glass of beer down before Jake, "Here drink this, I get help."

Korr whistled and the dwarf he booted earlier appeared from behind the bar, "Yes Les..I mean Korr?" "Get doctor for hurt man please." "Yes sir." The dwarf ran out of the tavern and disappeared into the night to fetch a doctor for Jake.

Lalita listened intently to all he had to say glancing only breifly at Sirroco. She agreed that their meeting had to be more then chance but she found it so hard to trust people. It frustrated her sometimes that she hid in seclusion but it was her nature. Ever since... NO! she wouldn't think of that she would keep that buried like it was supposed to be! "Lalita? You don't seem to want to interact much..." she realized her was talking to her. "I'm not much of a people person. There isn't much to tell about me I am from the North, I am skilled in many forms of combat and I dabble in magery.." dabble really was an understatment but oh well. "I to believe this meeting is more then a coincidence and that a quest will soon be forthcoming" she shrugged and noticed that her hood seemed to be making her new companions uneasy. She hesitated and looked around the tavern. It was mostly empty except for a few drunkards and if she was going to quest with these people she really should trust them a bit. Hesitating only a moment longer she removed her hood revealing her delicate features framed by hair the color of gold. Her eyes were a peircing green that seemed to say she had seen to much pain in her life. She awaited her companions reactions.

Lalita lowered her hood, and Sirroco nearly fell of her chair "wow, If I looked like you I sure wouldn't cover up you'd put the godesses to shame "sirroco said in genuine awe of the other womans radiant beauty.
Looking at Lalita and Contra Sirroco lifted her chin and said "I'm a thief, but before you start checking your purses I only steal of people I don't know and they have to be male drunk and fairly stupid,I'm not bad with my bow and arrow, I usually hit what I aim at, I'm real good if I say so my self with my knives, I can use a sword, but I don't carry one ( Sirroco used to carry one but she kept tripping over it and it was more of a danger to her than any enemy she'd as yet met.) I have no home town, and I know no magic,"
Sirroco waited anxiously for them to say something or to get up and walk away, female thiefs who used thier looks and bodies to steal of men were usually regarded as a lower life form.

"Well, I hate to dissapoint but I never get drunk and hardly ever carry money on my person," he gave her a charming smile, letting her know he was just kidding, "That is wonderful though. Most women just become whores or get married. It's nice to know they can be independant as well."
Contra gave a nod, accepting her as the equal she wanted to be. He did the same to Lalita, seeing she had shown herself.
"Indeed an odd group we make. Not that I've had worse. At least you can hold your own in weaponry. Well, as it is getting late," he took another hard look at the many men in the bar, "And seeing that these men stare at both of you harder and harder as they get drunk, we should probably get a couple of rooms for the night."
He rose from his chair, but as he did there was a lot of commotion from outside. Something that sounded like a scream pierced the night.
Instantly his hand was at his side, "I do believe we are being called."
(Does someone want to come up with a plot? I have something figured out, but I know there are others that have been in here since the beginning, so if you want something, just go for it)

JAKE

Jake heard Korr's laughter and knew the man was aproaching him. Jake just tuned him out, the pain was bad, and his breathing was hard. He was in no mood either when Korr slamed the beer down before him. Jake weakly spoke " Please dont both on my behalf, I will be fine." before Jake could finish his statement he blacked out.

As Sirrocco followed the other two outside she saw Korr standing over Jake, Jake was out cold and looked like he'd taken a battering rushing over Sirroco moved between korr and Jake "what have you done to him you big ape" she asked looking up at Korr.
"Lalita, Contra HELP" Sirroco yelled, as she knelt down besides jake.
She was ready if Korr attacked again he'd be singing suprano for the rest of his life.
"Jake ,Jake " sirroco whispered "come on wake up".

Lalita didn't have time to puzzle over the rangers lack of reaction to her looks. Everyone hurried outside. She hurriedd to the mans side. She had slipped her hood back on in instinct as she exited the tavern. Now she knelt next to the man and gently touched his chest where the man seemed to be having the most pain. "He has fractured a rib or two but I can't be sure. I only have basic medical training"

Contra looked about. In this town he doubted if there was anything near a medical facility. He would have liked to help, but his powers only mended flesh. Bone was a whole other matter.
He motioned for everyone to step aside, holding onto the wound.
Within moments the bleeding had stopped, and the skin had grown over awkwardly.
No more blood loss, but his bones were still cracked. Contra couldn't help the pain the man was feeling either.
"I'm sorry, there's nothing more I can do. If anyone knows of a healer anywhere, please tell us."
A young pale woman came forward. Obviously from the brothel, her body looked no more than twenty but her eyes let her age wander beyond that. The poor girl, such a hard life to live. Another flower in this mud puddle.
"There's an old woman, a half hour's journey into the forest. She could help him."
Her voice was like a whisper on the wind, but it went through to Contra clear enough.
"You have horses? Better saddle them up."
He quickly picked theman up in his arms, walking towards the trail the woman had pointed to.
"Wait... wait, you aren't going at night, are you?"
He turned, staring at her like she just asked him why he was wearing pants.
"There are mauraders, and bandits and killer animals out there. Wait for the morning, please?"
Deep sympathy in those sad eyes, he tuoched her cheek briefly, "He doesn't have until morning. He'll be dead in a few hours, if that. I must go."
There didn't seem like much out there. Bandits and mauraders, nothing but mere nuisances. Some of the monsters in the forests though... well he just hoped he didn't come across any of them.
"Ladies, if you are ready, we should get going." He called back to them, wherever the hell they had gone off to.
Shifting the weight in his hands, he began on the trail.
(Plot is starting.... now)

Korr turned his attention to Sirrocco, "I try to help. Dwarf is coming back with help." The door swung open as the dwarf entered the room with another dwarf carrying a medical bag. The dwarf carrying the medical bag looked at Jake and began sweating. "He's big." "So what he's big?" the other dwarf asked. "I've never dealt with a non-dwarf before." Korr covered his face, feeling embarassed for the tiny doctor.

(OOC: Roughneck, I leave command of the dwarves to you for now. I don't know if you want Jake out of commision until the group gets back so if you want to heal him now, here's your opportunity.)

JAKE

Jack felt a smooth touch on his face, and weakly opened his eyes. When he saw that its was Sirroco he weakly chuckled. "So you've decided to take me up on my offer." Jake said, coughing up blood. He scaned the people surounding him and noticed the two elfs. He also saw Korr, who now had two dwarfs beside him as well. " What the hell is this, the three ring circus" said Jake, trying to add a bit of humor to a bad moment. He saw one of the elfs talking to a strange women, and caught bits and peaces of the conversation. He tried to concentrate, focus his attention on that women, she looked familar.

Jake tried to shift himself, the pain causeing him great discomfort. When they began to move Jake to a horse, he again stared at the strange women, this time she stared back. As their eyes met Jake realized who she was, she too realized who he was and gave an evil grin in return. Fear ran through Jakes body, he desperately tried to move, his muscles straining. Sirroco laid a hand on him, and tried to calm him down. Jake grabed her arm and held it with a death grip. He felt so weak and tired, but before he passed out, he looked into Sirroco's eyes and whispered " Demon . . . . Witch"

I hope it's not too late to join!

CHARACTER: Jason Rangerson - Relic hunter
AGE: 25 - 30
PROFILE: Jason is a very rounded guy. He is the son of a ranger and an elf - woman, and possesses the qualities of many races. He is almost as strong as a Barbarian, almost as sophisticated as a noble (when he wants to be), almost as agile and accurate as an elf, almost as tough as a dwarf, almost as intuitive as a mage, almost as righteous as a ranger... the list goes on.
He does not excel in any one area, but is very well rounded, and relies on his 6 senses more than his physical skills (yes, 6 senses).
He tends to keep to himself, except for his very close friends, and may not be overly friendly. He always travels with a monkey (??? - Yes, a monkey, his most faithful and best friend) who is a fierce knife-fighter.
WEAPONS: Jason carries a pair of crossbows and a large, concealed huting knife, although he has some skill with othert weapons.

OOC: Roughneck is the strange woman supposed to be me? Iguess I'll just presume it is

IC: Lalita frowned as the man stared at her and she stared back. He became scared and struggled against Sirroco. "Demon....Witch" he said before passing out. She shook her head, one that recognized her, not a good thing. In her past Lalita was the second in command of the dark fortress. A kingdom that fell long ago to the knights of white light. She had done many evil things in her life but after the falling of the dark kingdom she had done some soul searching specifically with a druid who showed her the error of her ways. Still once in a great while someone recognized her such as this instant. "He must be delisiounal" she murmured and turned away before anyone could see the guilt in her eyes.

OOC: Lady_Siren, I was makeing refrence to the pale lady Poohlive was talking to but dont worry. We can leave it as it is, or go with mine and tack yours on with it. I'll let Poohlive decide the direction and action that takes place with the healer.

OOC: ok whichever works for me but I thought a dark history might fit my character :D

OOC: I agree and I think it shiuld be added. What I was shooting for originally was the fact that the pale lady in the tavern was a witch in disguise, lureing or tricking the party into danger. Now you have taken it as me realizing a dark part of your past and I think we need to keep that in play. But as I stated before, if ya want to go with Jake realizing your past thats fine with me, I can work and have fun with that.

Korr approached the group, "Please let Korr come. I want to help the hurt man, I don't even need a horse." Korr put his right hand to his mouth and roared in an unearthly tounge.

In a few seconds, his advesary from before came trotting to his side like an obediant dog. Korr pet the bear as the two seemed to converse for a few minutes. "I can use my friend for a horse."

Ooc: Well, I would guess that Jake was about to pass out a second time, so I wouldn't be surprised if he might have not looked directly at the pale woman, but in her general direction.
And, Lalita could have stood very close to the pale woman. That way, even though Jake said "demon witch" to the pale woman, Lalita could easily have mistaken it being said to her.

Contra nodded turning back to the man now slumped over a horse, "We need more protection. If what I heard was right, we've got a long journey ahead of us."
He looked over at Sirocco and then at the cloak that represented Lalita, "If you don't wish to go, I understand. The woods are no place for women, especially at night. I'm not saying you can't go... just that I understand if you won't."
He glanced back at the man who called himself Korr, "We won't use horses, they are too noisy at night."
However, he was surprised to see the bear, something that was not readily loyal to humans. He walked up to the creature, feeling it's obediance. Of a ranger's many gifts, understanding and helping animals is one of the greatest. Smiling, Contra understood.
Checking to see if the body was tightly secured, he grabbed the reigns, ready to go. The sun had already set, but still a small twilight lingered. The eastern sky lighted, a velvety blue, while on the other side stars had already blanketed the midnight purple.
Nodding his head at the team that now assembled before him, he was ready to set off.
"Let us make haste."

Sirroco's only concern was jake, looking at Contra she said "well if we Are going then lets go, I'm not worried about a few bandits nor wild animals.I am worried that jake might not make it, so lets not dawdle around here."
"If we aren't taking horses how on earth are we going to get Jake there. He cann't walk and he's far to heavy to carry very far." Sirroco pointed out looking at the inert figure of Jake.

Ooc: Uhhh, Delite. Jake was the figure slumped over the horse. The horse will carry him, but everyone else will walk.

Jason poured two mugs of ale, gulped one down and looked up.
"Don't you think its time you came down and stopped sulking now?" he said in a clear voice. "I'm sorry for what happened, but you can't stay mad at me for this long! Besides, I'd hate to have to drink your beer." At that moment a small furry hand snatched the second mug. Seconds later the monkey, Shakra, appeared, looking pleased but mildly apologetic. Because of the Unique bond between them, Jason and Shakra could converse as if they were of the same species.
"Listen," Jason said. "We will have visitors shortly. A party of travellers will arrive in the woods from the direction of the town. I can feel them coming. Then we will be going with them. We may never return."
Shakra looked up at him. The monkey was used to dissapearing from his secluded home in the woods, possibly never to return, on wild quests for valuable artifacts with Jason, but visitors?"
"I know, I know," said Jason. "But we must welcome them graciously. I feel it..."
The monkey jumped suddenly.
"Thats right. This is the one we've been waiting for... my life's quest may be drawing to a close. They too seek the ____ artifact!"

OOC: anyone got any ideas for the name of the relic (See beginning of thread)?

IC:Shakra cowered. Jason pulled himself together and looked at him sternly. "Don't just lie there! We have a reception to prepare! But be on guard, they may not expect us to be friendly..."

OOC: Poohlives idea works for me

IC: Lalita still shaken up by the recognization she looked at Contra and knew that she had to go with him. She had a feeling that this was right, this was whats supposed to happen. "I'm coming, no bandit or creature scares me" she brushed the dust of her cloak "as you said, lets make haste"

The story of Shakra

OOC: This is just to give my character some action while he waits at his forest home...

IC: A long time ago when Jason was a much less experienced hunter of valuables he had come very close to retrieving his lifelong dream, his personal holy grail as it were. Travelling alone he had snatched the relic from the grasp of an order of dark priests and escaped into a distant jungle.
On the outskirts of an ancient and ruined city surrounded by vines and trees, Jason rested to recover his strength, and realised he was being followed.
A young monkey, barely grown, was consistantly trying, to Jason's annoyance, to steal his bag. Finally weakening, Jason fed the creature, which only caused it to follow him more doggedly.
Making his way through the ruins, Jason stumbled upon an immensely powerful and evil Magess, one beyond all of Jason's skill and experience so far.
Watching from nearby trees the monkey saw Jason quickly lose ground in the ensuing fight, untill he was forced to flee. The monkey continued to follow from the canopy above as an army o enchanted cobras pursued the fatigued and injured adventurer at the sorceresses bidding untill Jason missed his footing and fell into a deep pit.
The monkey, remembering Jason's kindness, plunged in after him, and, drawing a hidden knife from Jason's prostate form, fought off all the snakes untill at last there were none left alive.
For the next week the monkey brought Jason fruits from the jungle untill he was finally able to escape, taking the monkey (now named Shakra) with him.
Two mysteries became apparent during this time: First, somehow, after defeating the enchanted snakes, Shakra and Jason had found the ability to converse with each other and second, the relic had vanished without a trace, never to be sought again by Jason, untill now...

OOC: Lady_Siren, I was thinking of using Lalita as the Sorceress in Jason's history... what do you think? (otherwise it can be a different evil sorceress)

OOC: Works for me Trey Fitty

IC: Lalita kept to herself during their journey. Her mind was in turmoil as all her memories were dredged up. She felt like hiding in a secluded room like she always did when she remembered something. She breifly touched the ring she wore, it had a snake curled and ready to strike. Why she still wore it she didn't know. Snakes use to be her best friend, they used to repect her for the evil that radiated off of her. But now.. it was a useless relic. Sighing she turned her gaze to the distance and to her fate that lie ahead.
