Are we seeing the death of the Democrat Party as we know it?

I hope the supreme court does overrule this nonsense if the dems to try to pass it through trickery. I hope it ties the courts up for years and ties up the Obama administration until the next election too so they can do us no more damage until we can elect someone else.

The Washington Times nailed it while describing Obama's "sick obsession" with passing healthcare reform and the unconstitutional insanity of the Slaughter Rule.

"Long-time Democratic pollsters Patrick H. Caddell and Douglas E. Schoen warned last week that "the battle for public opinion has been lost" on heath care. Democrats have backed themselves into a corner. If the bill fails, they suffer a defeat. But if they win, they also lose because Democrats "will face a far greater calamitous reaction" in November. "Wishing, praying or pretending will not change these outcomes," they caution.

The Democrats' headlong drive is leading to bouts of political insanity, such as the aptly named Slaughter rule, which potentially could allow the House of Representatives to "deem" the health bill passed without a final vote. That the Democratic leadership would consider resorting to such a stunt betrays a high degree of contempt for the electorate, whom they presumably think will not remember or care that their representatives would not go on the record on such a major piece of legislation.

Disaffected voters, however, will recognize cowardice for what it is. Add to this the Louisiana Purchase, the Cornhusker Kickback, the backroom dealing, special-interest loopholes and fundamental unsoundness of placing government at the center of the health care system, and November will be a slaughter indeed"

I don't think we are going to witness any such thing. Like the Republican Party, the Democrat Party will need to talk to the extreme left to obtain funding and volunteer workers, but will have to run candidates more toward the middle. The problem with the Republican Party is that it raises money from the far right but runs candidates that are more like Democrats than Republicans. The brief faltering of the Democrat Party is not a signal for the GOP to try to fill the middle-ground gap, but to return to its more conservative political values, while trying to keep the conspiracy-bent, Bible-thumping, anti-gay money base in check.

No one is watching what's going on out in flyover country. The farmers are buying lead, oiling their guns, and not buying seed. It's the last action that everyone best fear.

Ishmael

Unlike you, I actually live in "flyover country." And as usual, you know not what the fuck you talk about.

The Republican party obtains funding from the extreme left?

Who knew?

Such as... Republicans... who just governed so poorly that America just threw them out of power on every level.

Yeah that sounds promising.

So which major election have Democrats won in the last twelve months?

New Jersey governor?

Virginia governor?

the "Kennedy" seat?

plus Blago's gone, Paterson's next, Harry Reid is on the endangered species list...BHO might need to pick up a nice Christmas card for Speaker Boehner at this rate.

Since Republicans were horrible before they were thrown out of power in the last (major) election, what's changed since then? What new ideas do they have for this country that make them worthy leaders? Serious question?

The dems picked up a house seat in NY state in the past year, which was a significant election. Fox News didn't mention it much though.

Umm...I hate to break it to you, but when picking up one House seat in a special election is the highlight of your year...it's not a good year. (Think of it as a wash given the Massa meltdown. Still waiting on the Rangel deathwatch, though his seat is safe for the Dems.)

I think the voting population is seeing that some of their trust in the Demos was misplaced, and are willing to give an opportunity to competent Republican candidates.

I think it was kinda like this around the ole independent household:

2008: "The republicans haven't done anything great and this new young guy is comparing himself to JFK, lets give him a chance"

2009: "What a nightmare to have the dems back in power...we've sure learned our lesson and won't elect another dem for a generation."

So, two governors and a senator mean a banner year for Republicans. Hooraw!

The question I have for you (that you aren't answering), is why should people vote for republican candidates when they were just thrown out by America for being horrible?

What's changed since they were horrible?

You must be talkin' about J.B. Stoner, the racist Democrat from "down south" in Georgia.

He was one of the most repugnant creatures ever to walk this earth.

Wallace and Thurmond said it, too.

You might be the last person in America who doesn't think this administration is horrible and that the bums that enable them in the congress won't get thrown out on their ears come November.

A J.B. Stoner political ad in 1974 was the first time...and only time...I ever heard the word "nigger" on public TV. He and Ted Turner waged an epic battle on First Amendment rights. Stoner wanted to advertise on the Braves television network, back when they were WTCG (maybe as far back as WJRJ) but before they were on the "Superstation".

Don't forget the other Georgian Democrat, Lester Maddox. His Lit name could be RacistDownSouth. Ahahahahaha.

Worth remembering: The only way Maddox got elected Governor of Georgia was because of massive Republican crossover voting, who thought Maddox was a weaker candidate. He was a racist throughout the 1960s. I met him on a school field trip in the early 1970s. He was an awkward little man.
