They have recently toughened up Georgia law. If you get two within 5 years you lose the right to drive for 3 years. But after 5 years is up your record is wiped clean. To be a felony you have to get 4 within 5 years.

Good thing I'm planning on taking cabs this weekend. :p

New Mexico has people in court for over thirty .. 30 dui arrests and I don't know how these people are still getting out of jail.

As for bizarre circumstances as to why someone would need to drive after becoming impaired like life threatening injury or leaving a bad situation... Ok, so they get arrested but if we had judges with balls then they have the power to decide if the offender should get lenience.

Very few judges are willing to buck the status quo. They just do not do their job most of the time. It's not up to the arresting officer, his/her duties are clearly defined and they don't get to make that call on the street as often as perhaps they should... just by being human.

Now, what if we were to take alcohol and treat it just like any other intoxicating substance with no legit medical use??? And schedule it as a class 1 drug.

One should attend a funeral of a child that was lost due to a drunk driver before the drinking age.

That should bring the numbers of DUI's down.
