Arizona! The new thread

Happy New Year, fellow Zonies..... And yes do be careful up there in the high country. It's been grey and rainy down here most of the day.

I hope you're good at it.

Happy New Year, Ms D. I love flirting with you around these parts. Hope you have a great 2015 and we get to keep seeing each other at the Playground!!

I know I'm not from Arizona and except for driving across the Hoover Dam a couple of times, I've never been to Arizona; but I had to say hi!!!:rose:

That is such a lovely post. And all for me !! :D

Thanks for that, and Happy New Year to you, too.

I think it's alright for anyone to post in the AZ thread, proof of residency is not required. We're fairly friendly and laid back around here :)

Alright, we've made it into 2015. We can go to bed now

"Let's hope it's a good one without any fear."

Happy New Year

Happy New Year to everyone. A couple more hours out in the cold and I can celebrate properly.

Just thought I would let everyone know the first name of Hoover Dam - It was Boulder Dam when I was a kid and when they were building it. The history of the dam and why it was built is very interesting. I was born at end of the flood days in the Imperial Valley, California. Boulder/Hoover Dam stopped that flooding. It also developed one of the finest agricultural areas in the USA after they built the All American Canal. I am proud to say I was a very small part of that development.

You are correct, Dave. My understanding is that many of the workers and people involved with the dam's construction did not like President Hoover and resented that the name was changed to Hoover. Personally, I like the name Boulder Dam better.

This bit of trivia has me thinking I should start my Arizona trivia questions again. Too bad we don't have more regular visitors to the page to play along.

Perhaps we could get Sunny and Deprived to play the game. They did quite well when you played before.

Is the Roadrunner bird native to Arizona? It's Latin name indicates California.

Dave.

The Chuck Jones cartoons suggest that it is. :D As is the coyote.

Manzinita

When did Manzanita Race Track first open? What size track was it?

Seems to be a subject close to Dave's heart. I really have no idea as I'm not much of a race fan. But for fun's sake, I'm going to take a wild-ass guess and say, 1956 and a quarter mile.
