"No..." mumbled Eddie Ferelden as his alarm went off. Six in the morning was entirely too early to be up. He swatted at the clock a few times before finally hitting the button to turn the alarm off, then forced himself to a sitting position, his feet on the soft carpeting of the floor. He leaned forward with his elbows on his knees and cradled his head in his hands for a moment, trying to focus on the world of the waking, blinking away his dreams.

With a yawn and a moan, he stood to his feet and stretched, his well-toned body showing as all he slept in were boxers. He was just under six feet, with short brown hair and grayish-blue eyes. As he walked to his bathroom, he scratched his head through his messy hair. Slowly, he began getting ready for school.

Eddie had been born and raised in Avalon, and his family had a large estate on Star Island, a small landmass connected to the main island via bridge. Star Island was the wealthiest part of the city, home to nothing but very large houses. In the center of the island was Whitegold Square, where all the Councilors of the City Council made their home. Pretty much every politician, lawyer, judge, and corporate executive in the city had a house on Star Island. Eddie's family had an estate there because his father, grandfather, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. were all shapeshifters and part of the Watchmen, specifically the Emergency Response Units. One of his uncles is the Search and Rescue captain.

Eddie is laughed at among his family because he is the only Greenthumb, something they consider a weakness. While they have all mastered turning into wolves, he cannot shapeshift and feels like an outsider. This was the primary reason he decided to live in the dorms at University instead of staying at the huge family estate. Though, despite his family's toying with him, they do care and are paying for his tuition and a private dorm which is basically a very nice and spacious studio apartment.

(I gotta go get ready for work now. I'll post again tomorrow with him going to school and all)

Keira on the other hand, was just returning to her apartment, the night shift had been long, and relatively uneventful, a mugger and two drug addicts was hardly the kind of paperwork she dreaded dealing with. It was boring, true, and took longer than it's importance could justify, but it was safe in it's boredom. It meant the peace of the city could go on. Unlike most human cities crime was pretty low in Avalon, there were muggers, thieves and junkies, but less, magic could help with an awful lot of problems, it wasn't infallible, but it helped.

As it was, it had been a long night, she swung the car into the underground car park of her apartment block. She climbed out of the low, red vehicle, her pride and joy, and carefully locked it before taking the elevator up to the penthouse. There were perks to being a Warden it had to be said, she'd come a long way from a dingy little two room apartment in the Bronx. There was a ping, and the doors opened, she stepped out into the top floor of the building, almost basking in the sunlight and regretful that she was too tired to really appreciate it.

She snatched the remote from the bedside table, clicking the button that shut the blinds. They began to drop slowly and she peeled her uniform off, not waiting for them to complete their cycle, she dropped the clothes into the laundry chute and pulled a jersey on. Wandering over to the bed, her long legs were revealed to mid thigh, the light tracking steadily down her body, shining off her creamy skin. She looked at the picture beside the bed for a moment, before her fathers face was obscured by the falling shadows. She climbed into bed and let slumber, deep and dreamless take her.

A dark figure stepped off the ferry, buttoning his jacket against the cold wind that he seemed otherwise unaffected by. A cold, calculating gaze swept over the city, the skyline that looked so familiar, like every other city in the world. Unlike them however, Avalon was completely devoid of humans. All the super-cities, New York, Tokyo, Dubai, they were all weeping sores upon the earth, an infection gathered together to destroy one place, and through that conglomeration destroy the very earth on which the virus thrived.

It was sickening, to think they actually defended humanity when all they had ever done was destroy the planet which gave them life and hunted down and killed all the Fae and Magi they could get their filthy little hands on. He had always been disappointed at those who tried to stop him, they had been weak, pathetic little things, there were few magi with true power in those days, and fewer still know. A dark smile split his pale skin, no, it had taken an entire coven simply to subdue him, and they hadn't even succeeded in killing him. He doubted any of the magi today could challenge him, not once he returned to his body. And it was here, somewhere, he could sense it, even if he didn't know where.

The sun was just rising and he grimaced as it hit his skin. It couldn't harm him, but in his current form it weakened his powers and at the very least added a degree of discomfort to his existence. He had ever been a creature of darkness but his condition only seemed to exacerbate it. And he couldn't simply operate alone in this city, he would need to 'recruit', a few fall guys would be helpful, there were bound to be a few easily susceptible to manipulation. He looked around again, almost not noticing the few people still trailing past him off the ferry, before he strode down the gangway, vanishing into the shadows of the city.

After Eddie was done showering and brushing his teeth, he pulled on a pair of baggy jeans and a t-shirt, slipped on socks and sneakers, and grabbed his backpack. Wallet, keys, and touchscreen phone in pocket, he stepped out onto his balcony and locked the door. His dorm was on the fifth floor of one of the dozen or so dormitory halls, which was fine with him. A little leap, and he was racing towards the ground below.

"Woohoo!" he yelled happily as he fell. Just before hitting the ground, he summoned life energy through the grass below, causing it to raise up and break his fall. Then, making the grass move him forward quickly in a manner similar to crowd surfing, Eddie sped off across the large lawn towards the main school building. To anyone watching him, it appeared as if he was roller skating along the grass.

The shadows had not yet been chased away by the juvenile rays of the sun and Faria’s bed was already empty, the sheets folded back and a silk nightgown draped across the mattress awaiting its owner for that next night. There was only the dim light of pre-dawn to reveal her reflection in the oval, full-length, mirror as she pinched the ties of her stark, white, apron behind her back, tucked the strands through loops and knots before giving a firm tug to secure the neat bow at the small of her back. Most would have thought it old fashioned, but for Faria, it was custom and most useful in the infirmary. That and she liked the way it hugged her slender waist and flared out over her hips to settle against the folds of the fairly basic shirt-dress that clung to her body in a flowing pale blue fabric, the sleeves rolled up around her elbows.

Soon, hues of orange and pink began to slip through the folds of the white drapes as Faria began combing her fingers through her thick, russet waves, the points of her ears peaking out from underneath. The half elf gathered them into a low, loose braid down her neck and back, securing the ends with a soft yellow ribbon. She then moved to her closet, bending to rummage through her pile of shoes before pulling out a pair of ballerina flats; yellow to match her ribbon.

With a satisfied smile at her reflection, the brunette was suddenly in a rush to beat the sun as she grabbed her leather shoulder bag that was hanging from her bedpost. She slung it over her shoulder as she lightly jaunted to the small, quaint kitchen to pluck an apple from the fruit bowl on her way out the door.

A quiet street greeted the Faria as she made her way to the bus stop. As usual, the vehicle rolling up not but a moment later to carry her off to the university as she took her seat among a few other passengers, contentedly biting into the green skin of her apple.

Layla yawned softly and stretched her arms above her head as she struggled to shake the sleep from her eyes. She laid on the oversized mattress for a few more minutes, her long vibrant crimson hair splayed out around her. A warm fuzzy tuft of fur pawed at her ear, causing her to giggle with delight.

"Nero! Cut that out..." She stroked the black kitten affectionately. "I've gotta get to school..."

She slid out of bed, slipped off the oversized t-shirt and hopped into the shower to get ready for school that day.

Thirty minutes later, one would see the young girl walking out of her apartment in her usual attire; bright red hair tied into a single neat ponytail, tight black leather tank top and shorts, her books held in her hands and the black kitten perched comfortably on her shoulder. A single piece of buttered toast hanging from her mouth was her breakfast.

Layla would have looked to the rest of the world as a pretty normal, if not a little strange, girl. Except if one were to look closely, he would have noticed a long slender black tail swaying behind her. People were friendly enough towards her at the beginning, but when they noticed the not-quite-so inconspicuous spaded black tail, they largely avoided the young demoness.

She was deep in thought when she hit something quite solid. The large pile of books fell from her hands and scattered papers all over the ground.

"Oh! I'm so sorry. I didn't see you..." Layla clasped her hands tightly together in front of her, her tail whipping furiously behind her in embarrassment. The guy looked almost as shocked to be run into as she.

She bowed again in apology and hurried to pick up the scattered papers and books. With another apology, she set a quick pace towards her first class of the day.

Layla took her normal seat by the window and tried to pay attention to the professor preach about gemstones and how the crystalline structure was able to be used effectively for energy storage. But pretty soon, she found herself once again staring out the window, idly stroking Nero, her familiar.
