Avatar: Lightning strikes (OOC)

But not a teen drama. Fairly big difference.

Either way, I never particularly cared for Superman in the first place, or any comics, really.

Superheroes are not quite my religion.

Sequential art, also, not quite my religion.

...but almost.

...almost.

(That's pretty sad, isn't it?)

.... beyond the ages of the characters and the staple setting of high school...nope not really much of a difference in my eyes...

still just as much emo angst and backstabbing as any other drama I've seen..

Stop me if you've heard this one.

I actually cried. At the opening credits. Of "Superman Returns."

At the opening credits.

I cried like a little girl and my date smiled at me bemusedly and worriedly and patted my hand: "It'll be okay," she explained to me. "It'll be okay."

I looked at her like she was the crazy one: "Of course it'll be okay. Of course it will. He's back."

...so. I am kind of not sane.

despite an occasional desire for seeing Smellerbee's line snap as she descends onto the Fire Nation.

More to the topic.

(Thanks for standing up for me, Unseen. You rock and I  you. But!)

What if Bee's line did snap and Xia had to Airbend to save her, right out in view?

D'you think that would be cool, Unseen? (Just thinkin'.)

I dunno. :: secret grin! :: Smallville has its moments.

Now I have to go and play that song on youtube a few times to get it out of my head. heheh

Personally, I think the concept behind Smallville was interesting, but I've never been big on the execution. And it seems like they should have pulled the plug a few seasons back, since it's outgrown the whole 'early days of Clark Kent' concept. Of course, that's a problem with most shows. They're either canceled before they can tell their story, or it remains profitable and goes on long past its prime.

Makes me appreciate all the more how those behind Avatar: TLA had enough sense to finish the series once Aang mastered the Avatar State and ended the war. Another reason Avatar rocks. ;)

To be fair, there have been Superboy comics and stories based on the early days of Superman for generations now. Granted, a number of them were AU's (since trying to figure out DC's jumbled excuse for a continuity can cause borderline insanity in most people) but it's an old concept and a fairly important piece of the characters story.

Smallville wasn't even the first show to try and run with the idea, although I've only seen, like, one or two episodes of that show, so can't vouch for how teen drama-like it was in comparison.

Pft, I finally get a chance to speak up on the subject and you guys get back on topic.

Although I have been toying with the idea of a few near death things for Ryota and Longshot once they do land. Just because I enjoy making my characters miserable.

I know right? "Sandman" was the same way. Told the story and had done with it. "Babylon Five" was the same way, five-year-arc, done and done. But then they broke out that awful "Crusade" spin-off and ruined it. Bah.

(since trying to figure out DC's jumbled excuse for a continuity can cause borderline insanity in most people)

Not borderline, apparently. I am actually crazy.

You mean do I think Smellerbee would be all how dare you help me?

No, she may an independent stubborn ass of a girl but she's not the type to refuse help. Especially when it comes to situations when only wings could really help her. (though I imagine if her line did snap and Xia wasn't there to airbend her to safety, she'd try her damnedest to make like a cat and land in a way that would soften the impact a bit..yes it amuses me to watch her try)

No I don't mind if my characters are put in mortal peril...

Just because I enjoy making my characters miserable.

Jack Slater (played by Arnold Schwarzenegger) to the actual Arnold Schwarzenegger: "Look. I don't really like you. You've brought me nothing but pain."

Man. Some of my characters would kill me so hard.

Crusade may have been better if the network didn't mess around with it. Still, JMS just had to tempt fate. He did the near unthinkable in television by starting and completing his story, his way, in a series long arch. Then he tried to do it again, and ended up with a huge mess which left a lot of fans ticked off. Bleh.

And you're the fun type of crazy, so it's okay. *nodding*

Heh, much as that movie's a guilty pleasure of mine, I actually wish they did more with Jack Slater in the real world. Could have been the action movie equivalent of Animal Man trying to confront Grant Morrison.

Alice: "But I don't want to go among mad people."

Chesire: "Oh, you can't help that. We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."

The Joker: "It'd be funny, if it wasn't soooo pathetic. But what the Heck, I'll laugh anyway! HAAAAAHAHAHAHA!"

I liked Matthew Gideon. And I liked Galen, the Technomage. And the scene where the ship got dry-humped by hyperspace gargantuans was crazy hilarious.

But nothing else about that series grabbed me. Yeah, I guess the network pulled a "Firefly" and made him change stuff and aired it all out of order. But, yeah, JMS, he's a genius to me, but he never knows when to stop. For instance, his run on "Amazing Spider-Man" stopped being good riiiight about the time he revealed The Secret Origin of Ezekiel Simms. Which was disappointing as crap.

Also, Romita Junior stopped doing the art for awhile, and to me, Romita art is Spider-Man art. (Mark Bagely's okay, but he's no Romita.)

And you're the fun type of crazy, so it's okay. *nodding*

:: sniffles :: R-really? You think so?

:: HUGE GLOMPING HUG! ::

Heh, much as that movie's a guilty pleasure of mine, I actually wish they did more with Jack Slater in the real world. Could have been the action movie equivalent of Animal Man trying to confront Grant Morrison.

As I recall, the Animal Man/Morrison meeting was kind of disappointing, too. Morrison whined that he couldn't think of anything to say, and Buddy just kind of stood there...

Man. That made me sad.

(But I liked the bit where he implied that Buddy's childhood imaginary friend was real... that sort of canceled out the sad, a bit.)

I'm of the opinion that anything Animal Man is almost instantly good. And the same is true, IMHO, of most of Morrison's DC stuff. I can't stand most of his Marvel stuff. ("Marvel Boy" was okay, but it didn't stand up to a second reading.)

"Last Action Hero" was a spectacular concept. And yeah, it could have done much more with what it had been handed. But I think that that stuff could have been explored in sequels, maybe a trilogy-arc, had the movie itself not gotten trampled in theatres by the hyperspace gargantuan that was "Jurassic Park."

(Also, there was the ridiculously hyped-up ad campaign, that probably cost them a pretty penny.)

I still think that William Goldman's contributions to that film were on a par, easily, with his work on "tPB," though I'm probably I'm in a minority there.

...maybe someone should do a "LAH"-inspired thread?

Okay, how did I miss this post last night?

Gr.

Yes! If you don't mind this idea, I'd like to try it. If that's okay.

I mean, I was probably going to have Xia Airbend her own landing anyway, but it would be so much more interesting for the character if she's doing something selfless for once.

("Agh! What was that? What was... was that altruism? Holy crap, that was weird!")

..I said it was ok.. Didn't I just say it was ok?

Smellerbee: No you said I wouldn't mind..it's not the same thing.

'24' by Jem

Been given 24 hours
to tie up loose ends
to make amends
His eyes said it all
I started to fall
and the silence deafened
Head spinning round
no time to sit down
just wanted to
run and run and run
Be careful they say
don't wish life away,
now I've one day

And I can't believe
How I've been wasting my time

In 24 hours they'll be
laying flowers
on my life, it's over tonight
I'm not messing no I
need your blessing
and your promise to live free
please do it for me

Is there a heaven a hell
and will I come back
who can tell
Now I can see
what matters to me
it's as clear as crystal
The places I've been
the people I've seen
plans that I made
start to fade
The sun's setting gold
thought I would grow old,
it wasn't to be

And I can't believe
How I've been wasting my time

In 18 hours they'll be
laying flowers
on my life, it's over tonight
I'm not messing no I
need your blessing
and your promise to live free
please do it for me

In 13 hours they'll be
laying flowers
on my life, it's over tonight
I'm not messing no I
need your blessing
and your promise to live free
Please do it for me

I'm not alone, I sense it, I sense it
All that I said, I meant it, I meant it

And I can't believe
How much I've wasted my time

In just 8 hours they'll be
laying flowers
on my life, it's over tonight
I'm not messing no I
need your blessing
and your promise to live free
please do it for me

In just 1 hour they'll be
laying flowers
on my life, it's over tonight
I'm not messing no I
need your blessing
and your promise to live free
please do it for me

Pft, that's a lot faster then it takes me to catch up on most of my threads. And I'm usually here for a few hours every day.
