Awakened-Closed

Cole shot the men another death stare, Gina had mentioned that she was o.k. this made Cole actually happy, something he had not been in many a decade, if ever as this monster.

"That's good!" He said. Gina mentioned that she just wanted to go home and he nodded and told her he would make sure she got home. As they walked Cole took in her surroundings. Then turned to her. "I am happy that you put up a fight and didn't just give in. There are so many people who will just allow themselves to fall victim with out any sort of fight. I see that you are made of stronger stuff. That said it was reckless of you to wander out like that. Given that you know there are much worse beings then even those men!" He scolded her.

Though he wouldn't hurt her if he could ever help it, he knew he was rare and she would have been easy pray for many of the night beings. "Tell me Gina, what possessed you to even go running this night. I thought I told you that it wasn't safe?" He asked, even though he came to learn more about her with out her knowing, he was in some small way happy that it worked out this way. He was liking the interaction with her. It had been too long.

KC

"I have never been one to do as i'm told, if I was well I would have never given you back your journal. I refuse to be a victim. In this age a woman has to take it upon herself to protect herself. We can't all have creatures of the night saving us." she smiled softly.

"As to my reasoning for taking a run, it was to clear my head. What was your reason for tracking me or are you going to claim that you just happened to be in the right location of the city?" she smirked at him.

"Regardless, thank you for your interjection. I might have been able to turn things around. But I'll try to pay closer attention next time. I will say I was a little surprised you let them live though, and offered them the opportunity to redeem themselves. It's quite a unique characteristic."

Cole listened and thought of what she said. While still holding her warm hand in his cold on they walked and he answered her.

"Well you are strong that is good." He started. He hadn't thought of what he might have to say should Gina catch him following her. He naturally assumed she would never catch on! "I came to watch you. I wanted to learn more about you! You an no a normal human you act independently, you are not a follower! This day and age that is rare!" He said being mostly honest. Then he looked back at them men who were but memories having left the scene and thought about letting the two men live. "Killing them may have been a little horrific for you to see. It's not a pretty thing when I take a life." He explained. As they walked he found himself sneaking glances at Gina. She was truly a woman to be admired. A true original. "Tell me this please! Why are you not afraid of me?" He had heard her talk about her beliefs and her past, but he thought that there had to be more to it and was going to find out what it was.

Gina shrugged a little as he told her his reasons for following her and how she thought she was rare for a human.

"You make a choice, you can be afraid of everything and allow it to rule your life. Or you can take chances. After enough errors you begin to form a gut instinct and learn to follow it."

She thought for a moment "Well I read your journal, so I have a good sense of who I think you are. You can tell a lot about a person through their writing. Also, if you wanted to kill me, you would have."

Gina smiled at him "It's not like you couldn't have figured a way around my internet mailing anyway" she let out a light laugh. "Then again it's not like anyone would believe me. So it looks as though i'm at your mercy"

just out on another

Cole smiled at her reasoning, it made sense but most people would still have feared him. He took this as a good thing, he had a friend and he liked that. When Gina said that she was at his mercy Cole cocked an eye brow. There were things he desired of her, Vampires were not with out vises. Not with out desire.

Bram Stoker romanticized vampires, he was off base in so many ways but he got a few things right. Cole looked at Gina. "Well let's get you home, and safe." He said looking deep into her eyes, seeing the life, the love, the passion, so different from the fear and terror he was so used too. "You are very beautiful Gina! I hope you do not mind me saying so?" He commented. He never worried what people thought but he didn't want to lose Gina because he over stepped his bounds.

"I was happy to see my journal again, though the last time I had it was one of the worst days I've had. Awful memories flooded back and I needed to have something good to occupy my mind, so I sought you out!" Cole finished, he stood looking at her holding her hand like they were old lovers just out on another date.

KC

"Thank you" she replied softly. "I imagine it must be hard to live as long as you have with all the memories both good and bad. But at the same time to have been there through so much history. Of course i'm glad I was born outside of WW2, all the famine and death." she shuttered shaking her head.

"To have those kind of memories must be tragic. To be the cause of those kind of memories must be worse. But still, having a building bombed. It's simply just horrific"

She gave his hand a light supportive squeeze. "Obviously I have a vested interest in history, being as i work at the museum. But there are so many questions about so many different things I would love to pick your brain over."

Cole looked at Gina, though mortal she seemed to get him. Perhaps it was her love of history, the fact that she wasn't ignorant, she was well read and seemed to have an above average intelligence. What ever it was he liked it. "Yes I've seen my fair share of good and bad, at times it was almost unbearable, yet there I was needing to move on. May have had a choice to end it all but that has never been me!

Though I see the world through tinted glasses. I only see the night, I really only see half of all that the world has to offer." Cole said resuming the walk. While continuing to hold her hand. She asked "Tragedy? I am a monster, do I deserve happiness, I struggle with that more then anything in the world. For many years I would reserve myself to living a life of purist misery, then other times I would say fuck it and try and live life to the fullest that I could. Those were the times I had something in my life, someone. Like you Gina, it's the times I am around people like you that make me feel like less of a monster." Cole knew happiness would never again be an emotion she would truly feel but he felt that just maybe he could with her.

"World War one was in many ways worse, though far, far less innocent people died. It was an awful time to live for so many. But that seems to be human nature doesn't it. Will they ever learn? I doubt it. The more civilized we become the more people are killed. But enough about such sad topics. I feel the time for talk is later, let's just enjoy our time this night!" Cole said as they approached her flat. "Would you like to be alone once we get to you place? I will understand if you do!"
Cole finished. He for some reason hoped she would want to spend a little more time with him this evening.

KC

"Perceiving yourself as a monster is the humanity that remains in you. We can no more call a Tiger that kills a baby elk a monster for feeding itself then we can a vampire who does the same. Our ancestry has passed down generations of horrid tales and myths that have categorized your kind as such. But that doesn't mean you are. If it were a human that did what you do, we would classify them as a monster because it is not a necessity for our species survival. But you aren't human."

She thought about his question. "I have a patio up on the roof if you'd like to meet me up there and we can continue our conversation."

Gina was still being somewhat cautious. She wouldn't invite a man she just met to her apartment on the first day, so the same rule was going to apply to him.

"I would have to agree in many ways. But if I truly cared for man kind wouldn't it be better if I just took a stroll into the sunshine! I may not be able to help it but I could put a stop to it!" Cole said to her. "But that just isn't me!" He repeated.

Happy to hear that she was willing to continue their talk, he followed her to the patio, he could see that she felt safe for the most part but through habit or the scare she had tonight she was going to not let him into her flat just yet. The patio was spacious with a few loungers, he sat in one looking up at the full moon.

"This was often a dangerous time for me. The full moon is a time of danger for most of the beings that walk the earth. Wolf men or lycans, or werewolves this is there time. And being caught with out safeguards by one of them is hazardous to an extreme. Luckily there are none in the city. They prefer the country side. I've battle them only twice and both times I was lucky to live." Cole said pulling a silver dagger from the small of his back. "I don't go out with out it." He put it back. "There really is two worlds here on earth. The one you know of and the one I live!" He said softly. He looked at Gina and gave her a smile.

KC

"I look at it like this" she said after taking a seat. "Evolution has continued to create and expand over billions of years. The circle of life has actually been proven. For example I read something about wolves being reintroduced to a state park, which in returned lessened the amount of dear which allowed for more plants to flourish, which then brought several bird species back to the area. They also killed coyotes, which increased the amount of some of the dangerously low ones, and which ended up bringing other animals that hadn't been there in ages. So it's not a matter of taking a walk in the sun because you care for what you once were, as much as it would be understanding that you too have a crucial role in the way the world works. If fate means that i'm dinner then that sucks for me, but it's just all part of the greater scheme of things."

She shrugged and looked out into the night.. "werewolves huh.. well shit"

Gina had a way of looking at the world that Cole had just not seen before. He was sure many people shared her view but he had never had the chance to get to know anyone like her. She seemed to accept how the world worked on a very primal level, even Cole with all his years of knowledge didn't look at things in such a basic way.

Gina seemed, whether inadvertently or not to be teaching him that he was as natural as any other being, that there was a place for him in the world, that he deserved to be here as much as any other person.

While they looked at the night sky Cole felt so at peace. Felt almost cared for. It was a sensation that was so foreign to him, like being born again. "Thank you Gina for saying so. It's hard for me to accept who I am, I do appreciate all your kind words." And he took her hand in his again. "May I kiss you?" He asked. Cole didn't think it wise to force anything. She was special to him and he was determined to make her comfortable while around him.

KC

"You're most welcome" she replied allowing him to take her hand. His question took her by surprise. She hadn't thought of forming a bond like that with him. He was of course gorgeous, and it was exciting beyond words to actually be sitting on her roof with a vampire.

"I'm an old fashioned girl Cole." she replied softly. "I do require a date or two before i allow such an intimacy. We're just starting to get to know each other" she said smiling still finding it hard to believe she was sitting here with him.

"So just so you know, if you were to ask me out on a date, i would say yes." she smirked and continued to look out into the night

Cole smiled. Gina was willing to forward their relationship, but just not that fast. He couldn't be blamed for wanting to be more intimate with her, but you couldn't blame her for wanting things to not move to fast.

"Well in that case! I would be honored to have you company one of the upcoming evenings. For perhaps a show or just a night out. I prefer not to eat in restaurants. I hope you will understand!" He said. He had as far as he could remember never asked a woman out on an actual date in all the years he walked the earth.

He stood poker straight for many minutes after looking up at the sky, listening to the distant sounds of young people enjoying the night, people fighting, dogs barking and the constant sound of vehicles speeding around London.

KC

"I would very much enjoy that" she said with a soft smile. The thunder began to sound more angry as the lighting crackled brilliantly in the night sky. "I believe that it will finally start the storm it's been threatening." she said looking up into the sky. "I should probably get some sleep I have to work tomorrow." She stood up next to him.

"Cole if i didn't say it earlier, thank you for stalking me and saving me" she smiled teasing him about the stalking part and serious about the saving part. "

She thanked him for stalking her, he smiled at the joke. Then he bid her good night and headed out.

Though he told her that he was letting the men go, he really had no intention of do this. It didn't take him long to find them. They were nursing their wounds in a near by 24 hour diner. Cole waited till they left and started to walk down the street, they turned off down an ally, either a short cut, or they were up to no good. Cole didn't care which as their night was about to turn for the worse.

He caught up to them and in an instant he took out the man with the damaged ears. Knocking him the ground hard. Then he grabbed the man limping and bit hard into his neck. Spilling his blood, he didn't stop till the man was nothing more then a shell of flesh and bone. He threw him to the ground and went for the first man again. He screamed out but was silenced immediately. With ease Cole tore him apart. Then he dumped the bodies into a near by dumpster and headed back to his own home. He kept to the shadows and avoided all eyes, he made it with an hour to spare before the sun came up.

Hating that he lost control Cole sat in the darkest corner of the apartment and seemed to think on what he did, then he grabbed his journal and wrote the first entry since world war 2.

"I've met a young woman who understands me! I feel like less of a monster around her. I hope to continue developing a relationship with her." He dated it and put the book down and closed his eyes.

The next day she barely made it to work on time. She had been enjoying the dream she had of Cole and what it would have been like to know him before he had been turned.

She went through her tasks at the museum lost in her own mind. She couldn't believe she had been right all these years that vampires did exist. Now that she thought about it she felt quite silly that she had insisted on such a human thing to do such as a date. But through all his writing, he had seemed to be missing that. Perhaps that was part of the reason he chose to continue their conversation.

Perhaps they could catch an outdoor concert or a walk in the park. With him there was no fear of being attacked. She could defend herself almost well enough, but with him she knew she'd be quite safe. Unless of course he chose to kill her, then well that was that. She chuckled out loud at her thoughts as people turned and looked at her with a perplexed expression upon their faces.

"was thinking of a joke about mummies" she mumbled getting light smiles and nods. There was always stupid mummy jokes floating around. When she'd finished her pile of artifacts she made her way back to her computer and did some research on Coles original time period and the crest that belonged to his family. She had seen it somewhere among the items archived, and did some more digging to find out where it was. Although there was no way for her to legally obtain the original, she printed off the picture of it and carefully place it in her bag.

On her way home she stopped by a shop and found a frame for it and had them wrap it nicely. It would be a nice gift for him she hoped.

The last few days had been almost unbelievable, as he sat in the dark contemplating Gina and all that she had done for him he almost found a new lease on life, even only for a moment it was something. What was most intriguing about her was her lack of fear and her almost need to help those in need. Even those that in most peoples eyes deserved little more than death.

This sort of thing was not with out it's negatives. His having to stay indoors and in the dark during sun up was more a problem now. It limited their possible time together. She worked during the day, Gina needed sleep, their peak times were in almost direct conflict with each other. Then there was the fact that she was going to die! They all did, it made it so he would avoid getting close, knowing that they were doomed to very different fates. He put these out of his mind though, he had crossed that bridge before and he would again.

Once the sun was down Cole ventured out once again. He first went to a book store. After much looking he found a novel he wanted, it was a rare early print of Bram Stokers famous novel Dracula. He paid a pretty penny for it, but he knew better then most that money wasn't everything. Having the gift wrapped Cole went to the cyber cafe and emailed Gina.

"Gina, I would love your company tonight at Greenwich Observatory at 9pm?

Cole!" He hit send then waited. He knew that she may not reply in some time, but he had just that he had time! So he sat and waited.

KC

After tossing her keys upon the counter and slipping off her shoes. She sat down in front of her computer and waited for it to boot up. While she waited she made herself a glass of wine and took it over. "finally" she exclaimed to the empty room as she opened up her email.

She smiled seeing a message from Cole waiting. Clicking on it she read the words he had left for her. Hitting reply she sent the following:

'Dear Cole,
It would be an honor to meet you there at nine. Gina

hitting send, she got up and headed to the shower. She would need to grab something on the way there to eat. Finding a nice casual dress, she placed on a pair of heals and did her make up and hair.

'I'm going on a date with a vampire' she said to herself in the mirror and shook her head. She had about an hour before she had to be there. Stopping by a diner she grabbed a grilled cheese and soup before heading out to meet him.

She smiled as the cab pulled up and she saw him waiting.

Cole had managed to actually be excited about this date. He had re-read her reply a hundred times he for one reason or another just didn't think she would say yes. He owned many fine clothes and chose a navy suit with a red tie and black shoes. He did his hair and though he couldn't see himself in a mirror, he knew he looked good. He left his place right after the sun went down. Gift in hand he waited for her at the street where the entrance to the observatory was.

When her cab pulled up Cole stood a little straighter. Gina got out and he stepped forward. "Gina, how lovely you look this evening." He complemented her. He leaned in to kiss her cheek. He smelt her excitement. She had been looking forward to this night. This made him very happy. There were quite a few couples there. This spot was a popular destination for young and old couples. The hill side seemed to have a romantic vibe. He had picked up a single rose for her, Cole handed it to her before taking her arm and walking with her up the winding path. The night air was warm and smelt of salt to him. There were many people there but he only had eyes for Gina. The rest could just not exist and he wouldn't notice one bit.

"I trust you had a good day?" He hated asking such a mundane question but that as far as he remembered, is what you did when you were on a date. The walk took about ten minutes do to the slow pace they kept. When they got to the over look, with the observatory behind them Cole saw a bench and motioned to it. "Would you like to sit Gina?" He asked. Cole couldn't seem to think straight, she had him under a spell, or was it just that he had not known companionship for almost sixty years and forgot the butterflies one gets while trying to be the best person they can be! Trying to impress a date seemed easier, maybe he was just that out of time!

KC

Gina smiled widely when she saw him. She blushed a little at his compliment. "Thank you" she responded. "And if I may say you look quite dashing yourself." She excepted his kiss on the cheek and gave him one in return. "aww the rose is beautiful thank you." he obtained another kiss on the cheek from her.

She had heard this was a great place to go, but had never been. Her dates were few and far between and never seemed to lead anywhere. But Cole, well he wasn't her average date. He was however simply dashing, and all politeness.

"I did have a good day. I enjoy learning about history, so my job provides me that opportunity." she smiled to him and took his arm as they walked. "I think it's amazing all of the knowledge that you have from your years. I'm sure there is quite a few things that you've seen or know of that are different from the way historians have written them. Have you ever considered writing a book under a non de plume and setting the world straight?"

The view from where they were was amazing. However she was glad he asked her to sit. She didn't really like being in the crowds. "Oh yes thank you" she replied gleefully taking a seat upon the bench.

She waited for him to sit before reaching into her purse. "Its not much but I thought you might like this." she handed him the nicely wrapped frame that held a photo of his actual family crest. She waited till he opened it. "I had wanted to get you the original, but its in a museum in france i think."

He looked at her gift for a long while, he didn't know what to say. No one had ever done anything like this before. Gina had gone out of her way to find a piece of his history. Emotion flooded through him.

"I... I don't know what to say. Thank you Gina, thank so very much this is... wonderful." He said and leaned in to hug her. He held her tight in a caring embrace for a long while. After breaking the hold he looked at it again. "I certainly have seen much in my years. And no not all the history books have it right. But they have been and always will be written by the victors. I have only the knowledge of being present at a few of the occasions to dispute what has been written, I have no proof and would be called out as a nutter for even mentioning some of the inaccuracies. No I feel it best to not be involved in such matters. Though it would make for a good read I guess." Cole said with a big smile. He looked out at the night sky, and the lovers that walked by blissfully unaware that a monster was but mere feet away from them.

Cole giggled. "She's cheating on him!" He said pointing to a young couple standing ten feet from them, against a railing over looking the town below. "I can smell her lovers scent on her. She made love to him not four hours ago. The man she just kissed and said she loved so much has a completely different scent. She is devious and manipulative. All in all not a nice person. That man over there eats nothing but fried food, smokes probably three packs a day and hasn't showered in probably a week." Cole said both showing off a little and to provide a little fun entertainment to his date. "Those kids both need insulin shots, that dog is in heat, and the old lady just stole that man's wallet when she bumped into him. She is full of confidence, though these marks are making it easy for her. haha" He gave a laugh. "Before you ask. Yes this is how I spend most nights. Oh ya I have something for you." He said and pulled the novel out of his pocket. The store clerk had done a good job wrapping it for him. I hope you like it. Though it pales in comparison to your wonderful gift. it's not a first print mind you but it is very rare." He said defending his gift. This was one of the only problems with him and it had been one all his life. When he found a woman he liked he worried that they wouldn't like him back. Though Gina was only the second to know his true self. He waited for her to open it apprehension in his every pore.

Gina enjoyed his hug. It was firm and intimate, but not overpowering or clingy. It was just as a hug should be. From everything he wrote to what she had researched, she was determined that Cole was what every man should be as well. "I am so glad you like it." she said smiling at him.

It in fact did amuse her the game he played of identifying peoples qualities. She moved her purse between them as he pointed out the old lady that was making her way about the crowds stealing.

"I've never understood the reason for cheating." she said looking back to the lovers he had pointed out. "If a relationship has lost that certain magic that makes one feel the need for something different. Even if there are some things they don't want to lose. They should have the decency to face it and let the other person go. To give each of them a chance to find real happiness."

A smile crossed her face as he handed her the book he had wrapped. "Oh you shouldn't have." she said eagerly opening up the paper. "OH My!" she exclaimed elatedly. "I have wanted this book for so long, and have never had the good fortune of finding it like this. Oh Cole this is so generous of you." she reached over and hugged him again. "Thank you so much" she said wiping the tears of joy from her eyes as she broke the hug.

"Have you ever felt the desire to intercede on some of the people you come across?" she asked bringing the topic back to his hobby. "I have half a desire to go slap her and make a scene saying how she's not to shag my boyfriend anymore" she let out a laugh at the idea.

Changing the subject she said "This is such a beautiful night for this. Thank you for thinking of it. I don't think i'll ever forget it."

Happy that Gina enjoyed the gift and still loving his own wonderful gift he sat and played that silly game with her. She moved her purse then she commented on the couple. She had a valid point but Cole didn't see it so black and white

"She might love him emotionally .very much and views sex apart from love should she lose this man forever because of it?" Cole posed the question. "But I am more inclined to think that this man is more financially stable and safe, will be there when things get tough. Where her lover is I think a wild and free spirit, she probably feels she deserves both. At the very least she feels she can have both. As for you running in there and ratting her out, well my dear that is an option. Though it would come to nothing, might plant a seed of doubt in his mind about her but she is beautiful and he would believe her in the end! I think he would have to catch her in the act." He looked at them and how mere minutes before Gina probably thought those two madly in love. He had now soiled her image of them.

"I have intervened a few times when children were being hurt, when innocent people were going to suffer. But I steer clear of this sort of thing. I get involved and questions get asked, then I might be a person of interest, for I should know nothing about these people but here I am saving the day! And on what grounds? A hunch. No it's best I leave things and let them play out." He took her hand in his own and motioned to get up and start to walk. "I know I am cynical but you must understand Gina you are rare, most people are looking out for themselves and don't see any harm in what they do. They feel they have a right for happiness and will go to great lengths to attain it. Not saying it's right but I do understand that thinking." He explained his views to her as they walked around the park like setting. It truly was a beautiful night and Cole was sorry he tarnished it wish pointing out the worst of people. Though he couldn't avoid it and actually liked this little game he didn't think it was fair to subject Gina to it too.

"What are you plans for the up coming weekend?" he asked wanting something more pleasant to talk about.

KC

"I suppose all that is possible" she said pondering what he had just said about the lovers. "It could also be that she has his blessings to do such. Some couples do have 'open' relationships. Though I don't think I could ever participate in one."

She smiled grabbing he bag as they began to walk. "I'm glad that you intervene in specific situations. People need to be reminded that there are still good people in the world. I don't think i'm rare. I think that everyone has the ability to have good in them, just sometimes people get lost along life's twists and turns."

Smiling to him she squeezed his hand as they walked taking in the night. "I don't have any plans other then errands and chores." she replied. "What about you? Any adventures or rescuing damsels in distress?" teasing him she asked.

"I'm glad that you like your gift. I always like to add a personal touch to things when I give them as presents. I think it shows thoughtfulness and provides a intimate connection of sorts. Just like the book you bought for me does."

When Gina brought up an open relationship Cole gave a smile. "I don't think I could either. We are not even dating and yet if I saw you with another man I would have a hard time controlling my jealousy. But for some that is a perfect solution to intimacy issues." Her company was so refreshing. For so long he had been all alone. Some people love solidarity but he would challenge any one to try seventy years of it.

He also liked that she wasn't afraid to speak her mind on issues. He had started many conversations with people in diners and other late night places and so many would tell him only what they thought he wanted to hear. He could tell right off that they were lying. He could smell it on him. And it pissed him off badly. IT ruined the interaction and the conversation. But not Gina in all the talks she had yet to lie to him and he liked all the more for it.

"Like most nights I have nothing going on. In fact, you are the first person I've made actual plans with in..." He started to think about his answer. "Roughly seventy years. Sad really." He said but not in a feel sorry for me kind of way, it was just an observation to his situation.

"I would like to see more of you though. I'm not asking that you see me and only me. But our time together, your company has been a gift, almost as nice as this one!" He said motioning to his gift. He stopped and looked at a scruffy looking man ahead of them. Roughly he pulled Gina so she was behind him.
"Do not move Gina we may have a situation." He looked up at the darkening sky. 'No full moon tonight' He thought. "That man is no ordinary man. He is a killer and a strong one at that." Cole said backing Gina up and away from the man. He turned to see the couple. Cole had wanted to get away from the crowd and walked Gina away from everyone because he hated being overheard. This was now looking like a mistake. The man stared at them and walked towards them. He had wolf-like eyes and was rather hairy but wasn't what one might think of as a werewolf.

"Why are you leaving me. Do I scare you?" the man asked. his teeth were pointed and stained.

"No! But you take another step towards us I will kill you!" Cole said still backing Gina up. He was not scared of the man, but knew that should he get the chance he would kill Gina and himself and Cole didn't want her in harms way with this person.

"Kill me! I don't think so. No, it's you who will die tonight." The man said baring his teeth some more. It happened in a second Cole shot forward with all his might and the dirty old man did too. They were two blurs running at each other. Cole wanted to distance the creature from Gina. The man bit into Cole's shoulder and clawed at his face. Cole, in turn, hit the creature so hard in the ribs his hand actually entered his body. The werewolf gave a low howl and slumped to the side, Cole went to hit him again but the creature managed to move to the side enough for Cole to miss. He clawed at his face one more time to catch his neck before jumping a fence and disappearing into some woods beyond. Cole turned to Gina, he had blood dripping out of four long gashes and his shoulder. "Are you alright?" He asked. When he saw she was he asked if she minded helping him to her place or his own so he could get cleaned up. "Sorry about that. I honestly didn't smell him till it was to late. I guess I was to wrapped up in your company!" Cole said with a weak smile. he pulled up his collar to hide his cheek and neck he also walked so she could shield everyone from his shoulder wound.
