Best of luck to you, and keep us posted!
Well.. good news!

The story was published. It’s part of the Summer Lovin 25 - so shameless plug, please vote :)

I did these things (maybe it helps others)
1) rewrote some parts (even parts I wrote before)
2) did not correct all errors as I was re-writing - punctuations, grammar, spelling missing comma etc. - some not all.
3) Ran it through AI checkers - this was the most frustrating part. It was flagging for AI for things I wrote, I felt I was dumbing down at times just to make it zero
4) explained the process as advised by you in notes to Admin..

Thank you again for all the help as I have my first work published. I have submitted another story (not part of the competition). It’s the first chapter of an intended series, Would it be ok if I send it to you for a once-over to see if it musters AI check?

Again- thank you so much

If you don't mind me asking. What won't work a second time? Having one of my editors send Laurel a message? or what exactly?
The AI detector is looking for some fairly specific things. You used personal accountability to get around it. Future rejections will reflect backwards on the word of everyone involved who said it was a mistake.

False positives can happen, but repeat offenses will be more difficult to overcome.

My german story has been rejected because "still coming back as being composed largely of AI-generated prose"
This is just sick. They don't even speak german. So I have to rewrite sections which are not written by AI. Which one should I chose? My writing style ist detected as AI. Is is to good? Do I have to put in some typos and mistakes, followed by bad wording?
Or do I have to use a AI to humanize my text? This is really stupid. I'm asked to write in a manner that it convinces a AI which tests texts whether they are AI written or not, that they are written by a human?

So finally I write to please a AI annd not my readers? This is pretty stupid. And I will go to an german site if this continues.

The first step is to re-submit your document, with something in the "Notes to the Admin" section about how you believe a previous rejection was in error. However, LLM's definitely can produce the German language (if not quite so well as English, by and large) so I would not think hinging your defense on that detail would be helpful.

The AI detector at Lit is not, itself, an AI system. Write your own work, edit it yourself, and you won't have a problem.

I did this already... It didn't help. And I don't have a writing history. I copied the finished story into pages, made a correction with apples wrinting tools, copied into my writing app, So I had two stories, the corrected one and the written one with the mistakes. I only kept the one with corrections and deleted the one which would have a writing history. Why keep it?

Of course LLM can write in german.

"Write your own work, edit it yourself, and you won't have a problem." I wrote my own work, But I have a problem.

So I'm pretty lost. I made some test with AI detection tools 2 said it is 99 % human written, one said it is 88% Ai written.

They suggested to find an editor. I don't know a editor who reads german. There is a list with english editors. They can't help me.

But thanks a lot for your answer.
I'm pretty disappointed now. AI cheats by telling me, that I'm cheating. Brave new wold.

kind regards
Emily

I have petitioned the site admin on your behalf. I don't have any sway, but I am empathetic to your situation.

Just so you know, though, Apple Writing Tools is an AI writing program. Can you undo whatever changes that program made?

You're correct. I also think the poster in question should go back to the beginning and read the purpose of this thread. It isn't a place for simple replies that don't add to the topic.
This poster does not read whole threads. They take individual posts from threads, pop those into ChatGPT, and ask for replies. You can tell by the way each response happens in complete isolation to any other part of the conversation. They have been doing this across multiple forums for months now.

They won't even know this post is about them.

I'm just gonna say this, so please don't hate me. If you really and truly wrote every word yourself and it's flagged as AI, that doesn't mean it is "too good", it means that it is too predictable. In other words, not very creative; i.e. boring. In the harshest sense, you are being told that your story sounds like it was written by a robot. Your readers will not like it if it sounds like it is written by a robot. So no, you are not writing to please AI; maybe you want to enhance your writing style so you don't sound like AI, and then your readers will be happier.
You can hate me for saying that, or you can use the AI flag as a challenge to improve. Adding intentional errors is a gimmick; it is not the answer.
I have nothing to say on the subject of German language AI detectors, maybe there is something peculiar to them which is unusually flawed. My only suggestion there is to ask one of the German language authors who's writing you admire to beta read it for you. They are more likely to agree to help you if you leave comments on every one of their stories telling them how much you love their work. Bribery, sure, but it works.
The other thing I'll add (and I've already resigned myself to being hated now) is that, if you fancy yourself an author, you shouldn't believe any of the "suggestions" offered by Word, Goggle, Grammerly and all the other software. Those do not make your writing better, they make it conform more closely to expectations. You can make your writing better by taking the advice of real people who are good readers. And a good reader is not always the same as a good writer. So it is also helpful to look at comments left by readers of your favourite stories, to see which of them "really get's it."
FWIW, the beta readers that I trust are the ones who read and understand what I'm trying to say. That's what you want.

This is outside the scope of this thread.

Thanks a lot. I tried to contact Peter Carsten, but I'm not sure if he is still in charge of anything.
I did not get a response.

I do not think this will get posted. The sites policy is functionally zero tolerance and you can't undo the changes Apples Writing Tools enacted. I hope that you will continue to write, however. Writing is a hobby that everyone can and should enjoy. Best of luck.

Hello!
I've had my story rejected due to supposed AI. And I could use some help. I did not use AI, and am not sure what they think was AI generated. I am anxious to get my story posted (it is Chapter 2-3 of a series, and I've already finished Chapters 4 and 5.) So this is me reaching out to you here! ;)
This was my issue as well, and I have no idea why my story was flagged. It is the fourth in a series and I really want to get it published. I've messaged Laurel, and I've resubmitted with a note. I guess all I can do now is wait? 🤷🏻‍♀️

I write and edit my own work, and yet a story of mine was flagged and I'm honestly so confused as to why. I don't use AI, I write every word myself. I've resubmitted, but I don't know what to change or fix so this doesn't happen.

There's no point in fretting about it now. You've taken the next step. You resubmitted with a note to the admin. Wait and see if that produces results.

My story has triggered the AI detector even tho I don't use AI to write stories for me. I don't use spellcheck either as I tend to go over the entire story at least twice before uploading to check for mistakes. I write all of my stories with the same style and everything. I guess my best bet would be to resubmit with a note to the admin.

It's so discouraging especially after you spent multiple weeks preparing and writing a story that's almost 40k words in length just for it to be sent back. Hopefully, my other submission won't get flagged for AI, that one is even longer and I can't even imagine editing it.

That's a scary thougt.....

One person slopping together an AI detector to compete with companies that have poured in millions of dollars and hired the brightest minds in AI.... Brrrr...

But I have a question, if anyone know the answer...

If you could write content with AI, that is engaging, coherent and grammatically correct, would it still be AI slop?
(I don't think its's possible... yet...)
Why is it any more scary than having them use something like Originality, Copyleaks, or Sapling?

Hello, and thank you for this thread! I appreciate the clarity of your intention here.

I'm writing from the German side of Literotica, where a recent forum post led me to your post. So far, none of my stories have been flagged, but I was wondering:
Do you happen to know whether the same detection rules (or similiar patterns) apply to non-English submissions as well?

Our thread is filled with speculation and half-truths, although a fairly common denominator seems to be that people copy their texts into new docs after checking and deleting the old ones, possibly to clear invisible formatting traces? I don't know.

Another thing is, that tools like Grammarly or Quillbot aren't really a thing here, but many authors rely on spellcheckers or style suggestions in standard word processors. Microsoft's copilot is likely more widespread than people admit, though I can't back that up with data.

I have also seen ZeroGPT being mentioned as a self-check which offers questionable results at best. I ran my old bachelor thesis (from way before LLMs were public) through it, and it came back with a 20% possibility for being written by AI.
