Once Ver renounced his citizenship he was no longer a naturalized citizen of the US . He's just like any other foreigner (criminal foreigner as it turns out) that wants to come visit. He gets no special consideration because he USED TO BE a naturalized citizen.
 
My point is, if that is true, and I'm sure it is, how can he be denied a tourist visa., like any other foreigner?

INS can deny a tourist visa for any reason they deem appropriate. In this case their expressed concern is that they don't believe he will leave the country when his visa expires. His application could also be refused because of his criminal past here in the US.

In short, he's a convicted criminal who left the country and renounced his citizenship to avoid paying taxes. Why SHOULD immigration grant him a tourist visa? He already has two strikes against him.

Because:

As Coin Desk noted, this all boils down to Immigration Service being afraid that Ver will try to stay longer than his visa will allow. What’s more, because Ver renounced his citizenship in America to avoid paying taxes, Ver is inadmissible. According to 8 USC 1182(a)(10)(E), in American immigration law:

Any alien who is a former citizen of the United States who officially renounces United States citizenship and who is determined by the Attorney General to have renounced United States citizenship for the purpose of avoiding taxation by the United States is inadmissible.

That provision alone is enough to reject Ver’s visa applications. However, there is more to Ver’s past that also makes him ineligible for a temporary visa. In 2002, Ver pleaded guilty to one criminal count each of dealing in explosives without a license, illegal storage of explosives, and mailing injurious articles. In short, he sold, poorly stored, and shipped explosives on eBay.
 
My apologies, I did not see the link in the OP, and did not know he was a convicted criminal. I did notice he was convicted of trafficking in "explosives." One would think he was shipping dynamite or C-4, Turns out he was selling Pest Control Report 2000 firecrackers, each containing up to 1 gram, or 0.035 ounce, of explosive powder. Big deal.:rolleyes:

Which other laws that land you in prison do you believe are no big deal? There were at least three federal laws that he broke and admitted to.
1) He was selling explosives without a license to do so from January 1999 until August of 2000.
2) He stored up to 50lbs of those explosives in a residential apartment building
3) He was shipping explosives via the US Postal Service.

How many federal laws would he have to break before it became a "big deal" in your eyes?

"Pest Control Report 2000" (PCR 2000) firecrackers contained nearly 1,000 milligrams of explosive powder, which is far in excess of the legal limit (20 times the legal limit) for consumer firecrackers. These firecrackers, if used by consumers, could cause serious injuries or death. A Missouri company was forced to stop manufacturing these because of the possible danger to the public. So yeah, it was a big deal.

Truth is the federal government can make you, I, or any citizen a criminal any time they please. They have a mountain of laws and regulations to choose from. Don't be naive.

Ahhh, so your argument is that he shouldn't have been prosecuted for breaking three (at least) federal statutes because 40+ years ago you could buy dynamite at the feed store? I imagine you would be just fine with his storing 50 lbs of explosives in a residential apartment? Shipping explosives well beyond the legal limit via USPS endangering postal carriers? He's not a real criminal but instead was harassed and jailed for no other reason than that the government wanted to make him a convict 4 years BEFORE he renounced his citizenship and fled the US to avoid paying taxes?
