Thinking was, as they sometimes say, not a large portion of what happened. What did happen was the promise of actually owning a house, not having to deal with a ton of people crammed into too small a space, and a cost of living that was not larger than my paycheck.

Then I got here and realized I now live in a small town with less than 300 people in it. Culture shock, whooo!

I'm a California native, though i haven't been back in... sheesh, a decade now? Bounced around for a bit, though i stuck to cities for the most part. First time I've been anywhere where groceries weren't immediately accessible, or even within an easy five minute drive

But we adapt and persevere, no? I'll survive, or I'll be frozen in a ditch somewhere come winter.

The crazies are the best people to hang around! Always something interesting going on, makes for the best sorts of fun. Or the cops getting called... definitely one of those.

I admit though, in person and among "normal" folk, I'm far more reserved and quiet. Give me a nice corner to hide in, and ill sit and watch the world go by for hours on end, nursing a single drink and being that one creepy weirdo who never says anything.

I lived in California for a few years when I was growing up..

It wasn't a bad place to grow up just... well, didn't suit my tempermant. Or my skill set. The silicon valley is not kind to those who lack ambition or the desire to burn themselves out working.
