bdsm in mainstream movies?

We watched SICK the other night, it's the "documentary" of Bob Flanigan. He is quite the super-masochist, who struggles with Cystic Fibrosis, who has lived well beyond his expected years, which may or may not be linked to his engaging in BDSM. It was quite interesting, though not for the squeamish... which luckily i am not lol. I only had to close my eyes once ;) It was a very interesting view for me, because while I enjoy a side of pain with my pleasure, I am submissive, which he does not display so much. he just simply enjoys the extreme pain aspect, and is pretty much in control of where, what and when she gives it to him. As an artist, he made the film to document his life and death (which was captured on film) as a masochist in a very raw and very artistic way. Good flick :)

In every interview I read with Flanagan prior to his death he talks about himself as a slave, and it's interesting to read Sheree Rose's take on the film. There's two sides to every story, but overall, I would not rely on SICK as THE reliable document if you're interested in Bob Flanagan.

bdsm

a dangerous method has a flogging scene where she is handcuffed to the bedstead.

we also recently watched quills which i greatly enjoyed as well. although they changed so much that it was nowhere near acurate. not so much erotic or bdsm... but still quite good. we are excited to work our way through all the recommendations. thanks to all!

We just saw Impromptu (1991), and i felt like there was something subtly DS about it.

Wouldn't call it mainstream by any stretch of the imagination, but The Seventh Seal, which is a b&w French film about a knight returning home after the crusades. There's a man in his party that saves a young woman? from some horrible fate (I forget what) and she is summarily indebted to him. Less BDSM and more medieval-style woman-as-chattel, but I was able to appreciate it.

It's also one of the most beautifully made films I've ever seen.

Death and the Maiden

This movie starring Sigourney Weaver and Ben Kinsgley based on a play, is unrelated to BDSM, but does show her tying up Ben Kingsley and dominating him in many scenes.

A lot of what you see is just a small part. Like guy hooks up with girl they go to her place and she walks out the bathroom in full leather with a ball gag in hand. Then that’s it.

Nice to see the names of some of the people who no longer post here. :)

At some point I made this list of bdsm/kink/fetish movies, mainstream ones too. Many genres, including documentaries, good and bad movies. It's not a list of recommendations by a long shot, just a short list of what's out there that some people here might find interesting. I haven't added to the list in ages, though, so many newer movies are missing.

Theres a comedy set on an sort of S&M island staring Dan Ackroyd and Rosie O'Donnell called something like Escape to Eden.

I loved Dana Delaney's Dominatrix clothing in Exit to Eden. She was so pretty at that point in time!

Yes, she was delightful in Exit to Eden. She has aged well even after.

Nine to Five was another movie with a lot of dominant women. Dolly Parton and Jane Fonda both engaged in bondage. The movie was funny too.

This movie sucks. There’s like maybe half a scene that anybody who is just a little bit aware of the lifestyle will enjoy but stay away from this one.
