Blaming Bernie!

Glad you agree with me, but it's not mutual... I for one was a Sanders supporter, & if I recall right, they were both in the race most of the time, so most who supported him did it b/c-or-despite her being a choice. I read a headline on one site that said he was telling his supporters to back her, & I (aloud) said, "Not Gonna Happen".

If he head run for the Dems instead of her, I feel assured we'd have a male Pres. right now, but not one with a toupee or related to a former President.

The nearest i can figure is the DNC pollsters must have projected a runoff/recount between Bernie and Hillary and then they convinced him to quit.

He appeared on "Seth" a million times since he stopped running plugging a different book he wrote each time, & now I see he's pushing a new insurance thing... Not to mention I saw on a "Seth" appearance he did some talk-show like thing while he was a Mayor or something.

Point? Nobody convinces him to do something he wasn't considering.

Well ok i'll buy that arguement because im not completely familar with Bernie's interviews. But still i'd argue something happened the only thing i can of is the voting between Bernie and "she who shall not be named" was close enough to trigger a recount.

More Americans than ever want a third political party

More Americans than ever--61 percent--say the Democratic and Republican parties are inadequate and the U.S. should have a third major political party, a new poll from Gallup shows. The desire among Americans for a competitive third party has been above 57 percent over the past five years, but Gallup's latest poll marks a record high level of support.

Support for a third major party also hit a record high among independents --77 percent-- according to the new poll. Meanwhile, 52 percent of Democrats and 49 percent of Republicans say a competitive third party is needed.

As the Parties establishments drift toward a fascist amalgam of State and Corporate hegemony the people are less than pleased by the resulting erosion of democracy.

We have seen the transfer of power in the Republican party as the Tea Hadddists were used to overtake the party and lead it into the Rethuglican camp.

The Democrats have sold out to the Neo-Liberal ideals of their own Corporatisms repudiation of the Roosevelt principles of democracy.

I'm sure Bernie will be blamed for this.

Blaming Bernie for Trump is like blaming Hillary for Bill.

You do NOT want the rise of a third party. Last time that happened, the new Democrats devoured the old Whigs (who hadn't been around THAT long), and the War of Southern Treason followed soon after. A third party means deep shit ahead.

What, then? Well, right-wing whackos have purged sane adults from Guppidom. Maybe sane adults can free Dummidom from corporate tyranny.

No, of course we want the old parties to continue to institutionalize the fundamental problems of our society.
Keeping the Whigs meant keeping slavery. Is that your preferred historical path?

I wasn't around then but it seems Whigs were primarily anti-slavery, and their lasting party policies strongly influenced Reconstruction.

Let's try reality vs fantasy. Reality: major USA parties are tough bastards. Power abhors a vacuum. Some rough assholes will keep those parties alive. The question: whose assholes will they be?

Fantasy: The War of Southern Treason was unnecessary. Southern lawmakers could have introduced Bills of Secession and gone away legally. And good riddance. But no, they had to start shooting. That sure turned out well. :(

Yes, contemporary USA has institutional problems, many of which I trace to the Reagan-era push for 'deregulation' i.e. slashing economic protections, to benefit corporate masters. We live in an era where corporations are people and cash is speech. Won't much happen till those absurdities change.

The Whigs had an anti-slavery faction, which became the Republicans, and an accomodationist wing that would not take any strong action against slavery. The latter could not be removed from the party, so the party broke up. There's no reason to believe that the global corporatists can be removed from the DNC, or the reactionary billionaires from the GOP, at least until after they are thoroughly defeated by a third party or other, non-electoral disaster. Then someone may attempt to revive the brand names, based on a selective remembering of what they 'stand for'. I suspect there is too much baggage for that to be successful. Better to try and revive the Whigs.
